Mountain Backpack

Recommended Posts

A couple nights ago I got sick of not being able to see over my shoulder and dropped my mountain backpack. I decided that hoarding everything I needed on my back was less fun than having to find food when I ran through what I could keep in my pockets.

Today myself and a couple of friends got jumped at NWAF. We were running a little bit sloppy and deserved it really. The enemy did not see me however, and once I got my weapon up all I had to do was look for their three giant backpacks bobbing through the grass and shoot. It was like a daylight thermal scope. Had they not had those ridiculous things on it would have taken me longer to orient myself and they would have had time to react to a third party they had not been aware of.

If you must to carry a bunch of shit with you, I think the smart call is a hunting backpack.

If possible I immediately find a hunting backpack. The bright beacons are great when your first starting, but after that no thanks.

I was thinking the same thing, more to ditch it on the perimeter of a high PvP area than to ditch it alltogether. You've got the room for ammo and meds if you need it.

It's kind of an issue with me, because I'm always the guy with medic supplies in my group.

If somebody is injured, they come straight to me and I have Vitamins, Antibiotics, Saline Bags, Empty Blood Bags to store their blood in, in case they need blood afterwards etc.

I guess I could find dozens of yellow cases, medkits and 300 round ammo boxes then fill them up with stuff, hotlink the items and put them in a hunting backpack.

Pretty cool and for 20 backpack slots, you would get 30 Case/Medkit slots.

I wish there was a black variety, or a military equivalent, but overall, I don't find myself ever being shot in the back or discovered due to it. The only thing it's impacted is my ability to carry stuff.

Just avoid the blue and green ones if you must have one. Anymore, I'm leaning towards a 4pocket shirt, a black assault vest, and six slot pants. Carries my can opener, compass, few canteens, mags, Food, bandages, vitamins, few other things, and my torch.

Plenty of space without screaming for attention.

Agreed, My character wears all black tactical clothing with bulletproof vest, it would be great to see a black Kevlar helmet and a black backpack, such as the large Coyote Backpack from ArmA 2, painted black.

I've been dying for a can of black spray paint. If you ditch the pack for stealth the next thing you notice is your bright yellow axe.

Not that black is a good color "Tactically" due to night time servers being full of gamma/brightness cheaters and everyone has shadows disabled anyway...

but yes, why can I NEVER seem to find a black motorcycle helmet? I've got black working gloves, boots, cargo pants, hoodie, tactical vest... and a bright white helmet with an orange backpack. Wtf?

For now I just play in daytime servers until night vision is implemented.

But in the day time, black blends in well in buildings with shadows or without, it also blends in quite a bit with the dirt on the floor.

I wear a black bandana and it does good by me as it covers the top half of my head which is most noticeable when prone or scouting.

I always go for the green mountain backpack, it blends in pretty good. With my current character I was all decked out in green everything, tactical helmet, vest, shirt, pants, gas mark the whole nine yards. Then I took a good look at myself in the inventory screen and dropped the helmet, gas mask, and eventually swapped out most of my clothing. In green camo everything, I looked too much like a soldier. I would rather look like somebody you'd want to approach then somebody who will blow your brains out. Even if that does get me spotted more often.

I... I want to tell you why that's stupid, but I don't want to be the bearer of bad news.

NVGs are going to be implemented after the "World economy," where only a certain number spawn within the public hive, meaning that across all 100 thousand players, there might only be 200 of them (total). Good luck getting any.

I use mountain backpacks. They dont block my view because I always use third person. Then when I see a blue colored one, I use it to be less obvious.

No.

I don't know if NVGs will ever be in DayZ. Rocket talked about adding the monocular civilian type, but actual military goggle type are just too overpowered.

Night vision goggles eh? Let me tell you of how quickly those can make you bean your pants.

You'll be perched deep into the underbrush, perfect camo, perfectly still, silent, maybe a small fart here and there.

Eye placed firmly on your scope, as you scan the horizon for a glimmer of your next target. You see a concentration of green shuffle off in the distance.

Slowly you bring your mosin to purpose, steady breathing, and a crack fills the night. The mass slumps over. Holding your breath, you wait to see it steady, when out of nowhere......

SOMEONE POPS UP TWO INCHES FROM YOUR DAMNED FACE SCREAMING "TOASTYYYYYYYYYYYY"

And axes your face......

I did not know that.. I'll wait until there's any type of brightness enhancers because I find night time servers kind of useless unless I adjust my brightness fully, gamma 3/4 full, shadows off and clouds off; other than that, I can switch off my room light and play with the monitor being the only source of light.

OR, I could just purchase my own night vision and sit in front of my monitor whilst wearing them, don't think that would work though... :P

Get a Hunting backpack, and shove a Mountain backpack inside it.

It sounds stupid, but you can still put things in the mountain backpack. All backpacks take up 20 slots / 4 rows, but a mountain backpack has 35 slots / 6 rows so you're gaining 2 slots of inventory without the cost of having a giant thing of your back.

So far I've managed to shove 5 mountain backpacks inside eachother, it's a giant hassle getting things out but I gained 10 slots of space :D

Although this'll probably be nerfed eventually by making backpacks take up as much space as they carry.

All this and especially the ones highlighted in the hippygreen fashion. Made me laugh for a straight 5 minutes.

So, have my :beans:  for the best laughs of the day (night?)

Or is it that i've been awake for 24 hours straight?

Hunter pack with a couple of protective cases I find to be plenty of storage and doesn't block my view when in 1st person. Plus its a greenish shade which is a bonus. I use a black bandana, green raincoat, tac vest, and Autumn pants (they blend in with rocks well when prone). Had friends almost walk on me in high grass and rolling terrain before they saw me.
