Am i the only one bothered by the abundance of factory goods in the game?

Recommended Posts

To me the game is too focused on scavenging the rubbles of the old world, we do not create anything, we just loot things. I wish firearms where not so prevalent, mostly hand made designs cobbled together from scratch or scraps, highly inaccurate, and slow reloading. Food wise, i wish there was an accent on foraging and maybe some form of farming or animal hunting. As it is, it is my feeling that the way things are acquired isn't very realistic or even authentic but is more like the "power dreams" of a 12 year old.

If the game have a melee system as advance as the one in Mount & Blade than I'd agree that guns should be rarer, not less variants, just rarer.

Rocket said things like melee system are all in the core of the enginee, so it sounds like it's a big overhaul project, but Rocket did promise there's going to be more work on the melee. Just know it's a huge project. For now, the melee system we have is pretty nice.

Hunting and farming are confirmed, they'll be in the game. Traps are confirmed.

Then I must ask you how you would make your own gun

I know I wouldn't know what to do...

Well i'm sure a google search will return many improvised firearm designs of various quality, lets see...

I love this one but maybe just for the artistic value http://dev.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/http_tomsachsvaesitenet_data_1f_0ed_006b_54ec_1b_34a_8fe_229b_0178781-tfb.jpg

Guns are fine the way they are, but whats really needed is a better armor system and a better way to make improvised weapons. They already have branches and rope they could try bows, crossbows and the like. But maybe if they made it so the weapons didn't function at all in a bad state and that you could clean them or with the right tools even fix them and make your own bullets. Making it so that staying in one place would be more to that you don't want to loose your maintenance tools over a loot and bandit system.

Yeah too many guns around compared to more common stuff. Playes rather go "Let's loot NWAF for weapons" instead of "Let's loot the industrials for bulding materials." Epoch makes it even worse. "Let's go loot NWAF and sell the stuff to buy a plane/helicopter/tank and hunt others. Finding wood is relativley easy but finding cinder blocks and the mortar...you are better off looting said AF and sell the stuff to buy building materials if you are serious about building a base.

Future improvements on hunting and foraging.

Animals & Hunting

Target Delivery: Early 2014

The AI for animals is based on the new AI for zombies (some will notice the old local ambient animals making zombie noises and acting aggressively!). We have a cutdown version of this we will be using for hosting animals, including those from ArmA2 as well as new animals such as a deer. We already have the meat models made, and we have the basics of cooking. So this functionality is quite close. It does have an impact on the server, and at the moment we could only run about 300 animals per server without seriously impacting performance (until we have started additional server optimization).

I like the military Stuff and i think and hope it isn't going away, it should just be Rare.

I don't like the idea of crafting my gun, i find it less plausible then finding hunting Rifles or a Mosin in eastern europe (100USD for a Mosin  in the us) some countries have less restrictive gun laws.

side note:
I don't think 45ACP is very realistic in eastern europe, i don't think its adopted by nato and the us army uses the M9 and the p226, i might be wrong though.

I personally don't agree with this idea.

Factory goods are, of course, very common. This is how it should be - as their common in real life. The game is meant to have a fair amount of realism - and you can go to a fire station or a house in a village and find an axe. You can go to a house and find clothes. You can find tinned foods all over the place.

Obviously, things are a little more scarce after a zombie apocalypse, but the levels around right now are fine imho.

The only questionable one may be guns/ammo. However, I live in the UK, where guns are very controlled - and I know several places in my small town I could find guns - and a reasonable amount of ammunition. I'm sure they would be a lot more common in Soviet Russia - especially as their limited mainly to military bases - I've never found a gun outside of a military base, even in a farm.

The number of guns is absolutely fine. But I do think they should be spread out a little better - at the beginning of an apocalypse, people go to places like military bases first - and take things like guns and scatter them everywhere. They should really be least common in places like that, really.

Oh? Do computers still exist in Chernarus after the zombie Apocalypse so survivors can google how to create their own gun from scratch?

Well... Computers do exist. Their actually moderately common in the game.

Power and internet would be the problem. Some form of power system I'm sure, once bases are implemented (it looks like they might be at the moment?) there'll be some form of power.

There are plenty of people who collect that kind of stuff in case of apocalypse. Seriously - and I'm sure internet would not have gone down the second the zombie outbreak started... So people would have collected as much as they could at the beginning, assuming they weren't idiots...

Just saying, it makes sense.

But it also makes sense for the factory made stuff to be there anyway. So it's a moot point.

If you can make it in dayz, you can find it on google, that's what would happen, not much ingenuity about that, but as long as i can keep my Mosin, i'm fine with i't i just don't see the point then, for guns that is.
