Important! Is it to be? Or not to be?

You would of been better off buying a PC over a PS4 for that price you could easily get a pc that can run Dayz. in regards to the port question, no i doubt Dayz will ever be a console game

ARMA is a ...hmm "special" kind of game. I find it extremly hard to port everything from PC to  console, because in PC version, you need over 20 keys to be able to play, I can't see how you play ARMA 2 using ps4 pad. Stay positive tho

This game will not be ported. Its literally impossible. And would litterally be impossible to play.

You must be using the Linux of ten years ago.

I can pretty much plug anything I need into a Linux machine today and no searching around for drivers; it Just Works™.

Conversely, I'm having all sorts of problems getting working drivers for some of my hardware with the latest versions of Windows. Just today, my arguably still excellent EMU10K1 sound card worked on Linux just by inserting it in the system. On Windows there is no longer an official driver and the third party stuff seems nearly unworkable.

With all my Valve games and business apps now running natively on Linux, my last remaining reason to run Windows is DayZ.

Valve have been offering assistance and incentives to port for the Steam Box platform so I have to wonder if this has been offered to Bohemia.

Let's take my rig for example.

Crossfire R9 290, so would have to get X-fire too work.

USB 5.1 Surround Headset from Platronics. (No official Linux drivers or application. AFAIK)

Microsoft Sidewinder X4 with custom macro keys (No official Linux drivers or application. AFAIK)

Razer Mamba 4G wireless mouse wich uses Razer windows application for configuration (No official Linux drivers or application. AFAIK)

Bank card reader for accessing online banking. (No official Linux drivers or application. AFAIK)

These are just the USB devices I use on a daily basis, I sure as hell have forgotten something that would also be nearly impossible too get working properly.

And yes ofc I can get the keyboard and mouse working, but not working with all features. And whats the point of having a 100+ euro mouse that works like a 20 euro mouse?

I doubt the ps4/Xbox one would be able to run this game it's extremely CPU intensive and consoles hardware is already pretty old and outdated, maybe a scaled down version but I would rather they just continue to develop for PC and don't waste any dev time making a console version.

I have to admit you've got the flat-out most awkward rig when it comes to linux!

The default response for GPU selection on Linux used to be "buy Nvidia" but AMD has improved their driver support a long way recently. However, they seem to be having a momentary lapse with the R9 290X (and the 290). They didn't even send a press review sample of the 290X to Michael Larabel. You can guarantee it will be supported but only properly when AMD pull their finger out (next driver update).

I've actually used a Plantronics 5.1 USB headset successfully so it may be the mixer config. The most direct method to check is to fire up a terminal, start alsamixer, hit F6 and see where your channel levels are set for the headset.

The X4 support has a clue in the name (Microsoft). ;) There is however, kernel driver support in the pipeline (without vendor support, the community write the kernel support).

Same with the Razer unfortunately. I'll grant you if razertool isn't updated, that mouse won't be easily supported.

Bank card readers are probably down to your bank's implementation. Mine worked out of the box^Wenvelope but without knowing your specifics (and I don't suggest sharing your banking security specifics here) I can't say why it won't work. Certainly, I've never had the nuts to try online banking on a Windows machine.

In hindsight, I do tend to tailor my hardware purchases to what I know to work as I've already made the move and Windows is only a 'toy' for running DayZ now. Certainly, the more fancy or expensive something is, the deeper I research it's compatibility before buying.

Back on to the topic of the SteamBox / SteamOS, Valve provide target hardware specs so you can know what works and what doesn't before you buy.

And whats the point of having a 100+ euro mouse

I really can't help you with that one :p

Users with better hardware than you would disagree.

OP - You'd be better off spending the next year getting a part time job and earning the money for a PC on your own, instead of waiting to have on bought for you. I also don't think this will see a console release for the reason cited above; the controls. I just don't see all of DayZ's functionality being translated onto either of the console's pads successfully.

I run this game on max settings and its not that good looking, infact I remember just yesterday laughing at how bleh the game looked in the graphics department.

Just guessing here but I try to see the bright side of things.

By the time it's ported to consoles you will be old enough to play it.  :)

As said before, you're better off getting a job and building your own PC instead of waiting. It's unlikely it will be released while still in development and by the time this game is complete you could have had a computer ready to go to run even the most modern games. Add on to the time it would take to get it ported and you're in for a long wait, and it's all still a big "IF".

I'll tell you right now, unless you're avoiding new games on that PS4, you're spending a lot more on that than you would a PC in the long run, make the investment, there are people on this forum and others who can help you get a budget build going.

Don't let youtube fool you either, a big part of DayZ is walking. Scavenging. Walking. Hiding. Dying. Getting a bad spawn. Fixing a car only for it to glitch away. Dying. It just goes on and on.

I find that all of the popular DayZ vids I've seen (admittedly not much) are scripted, highlights, or a mixture of both, and I don't blame them. Don't rely entirely on those "awesome" videos when forming an opinion on here. They also have high-end rigs, it won't look near as nice or run as wonderfully on console unless they fix a lot.

Hall won't even consider attempting a port until he's done with the PC version, expect a couple years minimum.

Aslong as the console fanboys don't share the same servers as PC Users im fine with a port, as mentioned you would be looking at least another year before DayZ is even remotely considerd for a console port.

No Offence taken. Might I ask, who you are to decide, weather or not I am old enough to play a game like this? look at todays generation, my brother, 4 years younger than me, him an his friends playing GTAV, and Im not old enough to play a game of this content?

Your not old enough and he is not old enough for gta... your parents need to be monitoring both of you and what you play. If I had a 11 year old kid no way in hell would he play gta

I wouldn't mind a PS4/Xbox port. I hope you get what you need. but I'll be sticking to PC because Console Port will be filled with maniacal children intent on a quick scope

Instead of buying a PS4 you could just bought a new PC , good enough to run DayZ and many other games

And i call bullshit you can afford to buy PS4 and buy games to PS4 and you couldn't buy a PC

Sorry that I didnt mention this earlier, I didnt buy the PS4, it was bought for myself as a early christmas present from my parents,

If you can afford a ps4 why couldnt you skip the ps4 instead and build a budget pc to run the game  hell for what the next gen consoles cost i built my lil bro a pc that more than runs current games including the standalone yes it may not be some uber crazy rig but it runs it on normal

for the price of all the parts i put together :/  just my 2 cents

I didnt mention this earlier but The PS4 was given to me as a present, sorry for the confusion, also Im lookin into building my own PC but in all honesty I have no clue how to, some people say its as simple as lego, but I mean, I took apart an old desktop trying to find out how it worked, I couldnt put it back together .-. if you have any other advice/help I would be greatful
