Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

Recommended Posts

Wonder why rocket put night time in the game. By your logic it should never of been put in.

What in the absolute fuck are you talking about?! This is about Mics not night time! Where are you going with your own Thread? Here is what I gotta say about this

how do you not understand that?

People cheat and make it day or near day when it's night. So why is it in? Understand? This is his logic, not mine.

Is everyone one so closed off? Do you go out side and never talk?

Whilst I'm playing DayZ I often talk to people IRL about things I don't necessarily want random people hearing. I don't want to have to think about muting my mic to avoid this. Much of what I say might not be anything to worry about, but I do sometimes discuss things I don't want just anyone to hear---and I don't want to have to think twice before saying them.

Its a nice thought and all to try level the playing field etc. But you're idea is flawed and if implemented I would stop playing the game on principle. Privacy is privacy, I don't care how fucking in depth and realistic you want your experience to be, no one is going to get away with building a system into a game that allows people to hear a constant stream of what I am saying outside of that game. I doubt it is even bloody legal. Deal with it :)

What Icyblade said,It could be seen as invasion of privacy, even tho you agree to something it can be forbidden by law. I can imagine some countries being agianst this (not the game itself but the idea behind it, tapping of other voice coms) if you have a other people in your room for example its invading their privacy aswell and they dindt agree to it.

Honestly, I don't think an ''always on" mic broadcast would be in violation of any laws. You would of course have the option to mute or disconnect your microphone.

that's like saying you shouldn't lock the doors to your car, because someone can still break the window. the point is you can take steps to prevent things, even if they won't work 100% of the time

although i agree it could be a burden on the network

The problem with that thinking in this case, though, is that you're actually hurting players more who don't go out of their way to get around the system. I can tell you right now: no matter what they do to attempt to lock things such as Skype down, I can and will find a way around it; my friend and I will use that loophole. This means that we get to operate in the game as we normally would, but a bunch of less competitive players will now be broadcasting their positions unlike they were before - it is now easier for me and my friend to find players who don't try and use some loophole. It doesn't hurt people like me, it hurts people like you.

Unfortunately, unless something can be absolutely enforced by the game engine, partially enforcing it will only make life harder for the non-competitive crowd, and thus in contrast easier for the competitive minded.

not possible.. you can always have a program running in the background of any game.

I just view people using Skype and TS as though they are communicating via hand signals, or whispering. I mean no self-respecting bandit would shout 'oh there's a guy over there, take him down!' for everyone in the area to hear. Sure communication from one end of Chernarus to the other is a bit far fetched, but it's not the end of the world.

As stated above, despite concerns over privacy, there is no way mic always being on could work.

Despite the fact that it works every time you walk out of your house.

People are just to stuck up about their "private" secret convocations and hold them high when no one cares what you're talking about or your private life. We don't know you, you are just a random player on the screen, your in game avatar has zero connection to you, when you walk out of the house and talk to friend you are in fact giving even more "private" info out that you would here, because they see you in real life. Not some disassociated avatar that has no connection to your real self.

It can work, It would work. Some people would put effort in to bypass it but only some, most would just play the game without cheating. As most already do!

I'd also like to point out this is just a suggestion, it's not like I'm putting it in the game, it's more ideas for the dev to think about. Yet you fight it as if it's going to end your gameplay experience.

I can be "competitive", but I prefer to win because I played the game better. not because I knowingly used an unfair advantage. not sure what there is to "win" in this game, but that's another story...

Eh... no i would never accept that, I don't want to broadcast my strategies to strangers. We got teamspeak for a reason to be able to speak to only these persons not a bunch of strangers. More so i would never accept that becouse of privacy reasons. Drop your idea becouse it ain't gonna be done. You do relize that it woulden't make any difference to my clan as we just would have bybassed it.

You are saying this becouse of ''realism'' reasons but thinks that server hopping is ok and a part of the game, shoulden't you start to solve that if you want it realistic?

It's part of the game as in it IN the game, Changing your pc setting and hardware is not part of the game.

Who are you to say what will or will not be done?

In most instances no one would care, this is true. However I sometimes discuss bank transfers with housemates for bills etc. I do not want the risk of this being overheard in case some bank details are talked about, just because I forgot to mute my mic. Sure the risk is slim but still. Also you'd get douches who would inevitably pick up some random conversation during a live stream and post it everywhere online, without anyone's consent.

In any case for me, it is a matter of principle. I value my privacy and I do not want it invaded by having the audio in my room broadcast to some randoms over the internet regardless of what is said. I want to have control over when people can hear me and when they cannot and not to have to worry whether the mic is on when I'm talking to people IRL.

I know it is just a suggestion, but it is shit. It won't stop anyone as soon as a bypass is found everyone will do it, and those who don't will be raped by those who do.

You talk about it as if its going to send your voice even when not playing. And you would know not to talk about bank details while playing dayz.

But. Whatever.

Is this possible?, as it is I can chat to anyone on skype such as team mates without anyone in game knowing I'm around. It would be cool if dayz forced voice to direct chat, it's more realistic that way. Imagine sneaking up on two guys chatting away as they search for loot. Just seems like an enjoyable feature.

No. That could be counted as invasion of privacy if you were talking in R for example. "Moooooooooooooooooom, Sandwhich, Nao!"! to everyone. Not good for RP'ers either. + Ppl with bad mics would be spewing background noise and feedback everywhere like sperm

I talk about whatever I want when playing DayZ or any other game for that matter may it be bank transfers or evil masterplans. I see gaming as a social activity among many others, not like a wannabe special training for green commandos special forces.

I often randomly get a knock on my door whilst playing a game to talk about stuff like that. All it would take is for me to forget briefly to mute my mic... That is not out of the question.

Also, as I said it is a matter of principle. I value my privacy and I don't want to have to opt-out of people being able to hear everything that I say whilst I'm on a game. This is not asking a lot really.

Sure it would mostly be idle chatter, but I don't care, how is me talking to someone going to improve your immersion in DayZ anyway? You really want to hear me asking my girlfriend what she fancies having for dinner today and such as you're strolling through Chenarus? It's a dumb idea on so many levels. Let it go.

Yes I do, it's always interesting to hear people talking. when i'm sneaking up on them, or hearing a new guy that just joined trying to figure out how to play.

And I don't want you hearing that kind of stuff.

It would make no sense in terms of immersion and realism anyway. All it would seem like is someone having an ordinary and dull conversation with an invisible person. How does that make sense in game? What if I someone is listening to music? Or someone is watching a random documentary about sharks really loudly? Stupidest idea ever.

Then it would be fucking funny as hell.

For you maybe. But what about all this stuff about being hardcore and getting super into the game?

Its fine to play like that, I've been known to get properly into DayZ from time to time, but how the hell does hearing random conversations/music/whatever fit into the whole realism/immersion thing. It would totally break it for a lot of people.

Conclusion: this idea is a ridiculous, privacy invading, immersion ruining, easily bypass-able farce. I'm done here, you seem like you're trolling now rather than making any attempts to respond properly.

Can't always be helped. You are playing with you're headphones on, someone in the same room wants to listen to music...
