Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

Recommended Posts

Weird, muting my mic is the single press of a button that turns red. It turns green when I unmute it. Yeah, that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much trouble to bother with.  <_<

The point is to talk to your friend in the game, why would you mute you mic?

Good bye privacity when playing a game. I would seriously stop playing if this was added, even if this benefitted me.

Remember not every single person in the world is a native english, and I myself speak spanish with all of the friends I play dayz with. If you want to have a clusterfuck of languages and annoying sounds so be it, then you would have a shitton of threads over here begging to remove that system.

There is a voice chat already. It is optional for some reason.

And I don't even think you can access private skype conversations, that would be a really big problem for BI studios coming from windows.

Where has it been done properly before?

Different people have different input levels as well. Some people have god-awful mics or no mic at all. Those with bad ones either have a lot of amplified white noise going on or their words are just screwed up.

Imagine coming into a town and hearing "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzvvvvvvvvvvvvvvttttttt" or something similar due to one guy's crappy mic. Not my idea of fun, personally.

You don't think white noise can be blocked?

Stop saying "You".

People can simply mute their mic to get around your "features" that give away their position. At that point they can use other software/hardware to communicate and gain all the advantages of talking to their friends with none of the disadvantages of the system you are proposing (for like the 4th time in the last year) to have. So your changes have done nothing but inconvenience a few players and disadvantage the rest. Waste of time.

I guess you must hate going out in the real world?

Then don't give your credit card number out when you're playing the game.

The system in DayZ/ArmA doesn't distinguish between any noise. It's up to the mic and the relevant software to do that. You're trying to make this so complex while Mercules points out just how easy it would be to work around. Then you reply, "Why would you do that?" Really?

This is a waste of everyone's time.

There are no south american servers who speak spanish as native language. The server companies don't even provide such locations.

You're right, we should take out the flashlight too. Because that gives away our position when you use it. Because everyone downloads a mod that sets the client time to day. So lets get rid of the flash light because thats possible. It's an inconvenience. Lets just have 24/7 day light, lets take away all realism, lets ruin the game.

calm the fak down both of ya :p not everyone has 7,1 jacks on their computer so it gets trickier. If you mute or disable the mic ingame you cant communicate at all with other players. How does someone bypass that?

The arma system also did not have zombies running around with proper zombies animations. I wonder why it does now.

And the other thing. you need to read the convo closer.

Ehem, I have expensive headphones but you can do the same with a headset bought for $12 that uses the mic jack and not USB. No way for Windows or DayZ to detect that. Then I plug a set of headphones with an earbud into my smart phone and start up Skype. I can now mute my headphone mic, talk to my friends with perfectly clear sound, and talk in game with a simple press of a single button when I need to. This is not an unreasonable situation to set up for a large number of the player base. Most probably already own the required hardware. If so, it's 30 seconds to set up.

You never answered my question.

What game even does that right?

Is there a precedent of what you're suggesting working well at all?

And zombies are entirely different from mic input and VON capabilities...

Sounds like a joke tbh. Really, how many people you think will do that?

so you have headphones over a earbud and two mics?

The point is he added it in. It wasn't there before. He even made a new game to put more stuff in.

And I don't know of any games that do this. So? If nobody has done something should you not try either?

I'm, sure it's a simple thing, noise cancellation. sound levels lowered or lifted to a set level. Distances based on the level of sound.  Making a zombie run after you and around the environment is a lot more work than this.

No, but your private life is really not that important. I don't care if some random guy online knows I had sex last night or ran over a dog or had a fight with my sister. None of which I did, just an example. You don't give out private information. And if you're playing day z, then don't talk about how you gave your cat aids. Just an example again.

Nearly all of them given the system you want to use. In games with built in chat my friends and I tend to use third party systems anyway. If we have to join a group with people not in the third party system we communicate what they need to know through the in game and continue to talk outside the game about whatever we want, including how well or poorly these other people play.

My phone has a mic that will pick up any conversation nearby. The earbud volume is low enough I can hear friends and still hear ingame sounds. I actually did this once playing from a laptop at a hotel where the network was so bad I could play the game but the extra bandwidth from Skype made it nearly unplayable. It was a good work around to that issue.

How would you know? Maybe "your" private life is nothing to discuss, but mine has plenty of importance in it. ;)

Never been done before -> "I'm sure it's a simple thing"

That seems like it contradicts itself. I'd expect ArmA modders to be all over something like that if it was so great and simple, but they're not.

I ask if there's an precedent of this working because if there's not, it's likely indicative of how annoying this system would be and how it's not gained support.

To YOU. Not to random people online. My private life is important to me too, ofcourse, but not to anyone else. They don't give a shit. And you just showed that in your attempt at demeaning my private life. No offence taken.

I didn't say it's never been done before.

So you ARE saying if it's not been done don't do it..

Find an example of this working properly in a game full of strangers and I'll truly reconsider, then.

I'm saying it's indicative of faults. You say it must be simple, yet it's not been done. If something simple hasn't been done, and no doubt someone has thought of it, you have to ask "Why?"
