Massive Balota Battle Against Ghosters

Recommended Posts

I won't beat a dead horse too badly, but my group just got into a massive, extended firefight against against a group of 5 (7?) Server hopping, ghosting KoS bandits at Balota Airfield.

We were in three groups. 3 of us at NEA, one in Komarovo, and one at Balota. Our man in Balota observed a group of bandits killing bambis in the area, and to confirm our suspicions, he approached unarmed and called out friendly. He was killed immediately.

The group at NEA ran at a dead sprint across the map to the hills north of the Airfield where we met and left a sniper on over watch. The other 3 with M4s approached the airstrip and closed on the Large building. With the sniper initiating contact with a clean head shot to a player in wait to the south, the assault team began rapid fire engagement of 4 other bandits. One was shot upwards of 5 times in the open before combat logging. Another went down inside the closest hangar. The remaining combat logged, and flanked to the trees north of the airstrip.

I pushed into and cleared the large building with support watching the door. Once gaining lodgment in the top floor, a player appeared in the top hall. We killed each other inside. No player entered behind me, and there was a reloading sound shortly before I died. Upon re spawning at the Airfield, we located three more players who had logged into the treeline north of the green hangars. Our sniper engaged and killed one before the other two combat logged. I recovered the enemy weapon and took up a firing position. Two poorly aimed shots landed around me forcing me to fall back to the east. The same two combat loggers engaged me from the east, hitting me twice but could not kill me.

While under ineffective fire from those two, I retreated to the hill in front of the houses. Hitting one player with mosin fire, both immediately combat logged before the remaining M4 team member could close on them.

I have never experienced combat logging on quite this ridiculous scale before. I'm not QQing, but one of the side effects of the fast loading speed of a player into a server has led to an increased ability to jump around during a fight.

StatiK should have video of this event, which ai will link to when available.

Server hoping is a big issue and should be addresed as priority to fix.

That was a very technical account. Enjoyed reading it.

I have to imagine the current combat logging situation will be rectified somehow. Seems that it is ridiculously easy to abuse, which is why I'm guessing that the current state is due to developmental issues and not planned structure. Obviously the dev team is aware of it (how could they not be), so I can only assume they are either working on a solution or have to develop other parts of the game before they can implement a solution.

Again, really good story. I wish more people had your writing skills.

I've never understood this mentality of playing any game. If there is one group of people I want to wipe off the face of the Earth, it's the people who get genuine satisfaction out of personal "accomplishments" they didn't earn.

Hackers are Priority ;)

I'm sure the dev team is aware of it as well, I just thought I would throw my two cents in on the issue. Hopefully it gets addressed sooner rather than later, before people start to get frustrated.

Server hopping allows more items to be tested.  Searching is great and all, but the best way to test gear out is by attaining it as quickly as possible.

We (testers) understand that server hopping will be fixed before release.  Until then, enjoy.

200,000 people bought the game (last I heard). I'm pretty sure testing gear without server hopping won't be a problem.

You think groups of people looking to gear up in 20 minutes and kill everything in sight are doing their darndest to report bugs and problems? My guess is they go for the same gear to do the only linear thing they do in the game.

I really like two things from the MOD, a) log out timer. and b) combat timer (going to throw in a c) from origins, where if you log out in proximity to another player you have an avatar that does 'the dance'). I think that if these three things were implemented combat logging would become a useless (and deadly) tactic.  Tweak two of them together so if/when you have a combat timer activated, ANY disconnect will cause the avatar dance.

If you're in any combat situation and log for any reason, your 'character' stays in game for 30 seconds, left an open target. Any 'friendly' situation that could activate either timer should really have no adverse effects.

Maybe a 150m radius around your player. If Any weapon discharges or if any rounds impact inside that 150m, the combat timer is triggered. If another round hits or is fired, the timer resets.

And another, smaller circle, may 30m radius. The combat timer is automatically set when another player breaches that circle. If you try to click exit, you get a warning that your body remains for 5 minutes unless you clear that 30m?

VIDEO INCOMING. JUST UPLOADING.

Also, I was on overwatch, so I didn't get much footage showing what was going down on the ground, and it was my first time with the mosin, so you'll have to bear with me.

Very cool video.  Nice shooting.  I need to learn how to adjust range and stuff like that, especially since I'm carrying a Mossin.

Thankfully, I think they are planning on addressing combat logging among other annoyances that are not only borderline cheating but seriously break immersion.
