Apple Monster 6 Posted December 23, 2013 Ok so I'm new to DayZ and was expecting too much from the early access, but c'mon where are all the items?? I've been playing for 4hrs straight and have rummaged through building after building (many the same exact footprint) and all I have is a freaking hammer, gloves and canteen. If Dayz is supposed to be focusing on realism, then where is the realism with respect to items? I can go across the street and find more useable things in an old abandoned barn than I could in 40 houses in DayZ. I understand it's early access, and I'm prepared to wait for more features, but it doesn't seem like item spawns are anywhere close to being what one would find in a realistic Post AP experience. I mean sheesh, I can find 7 motorcycle helmets, but I can't find a freaking weapon (other than a hammer)?
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted December 23, 2013 You might be on a server that has been running for a while try switching. The longer the servers run time the less lootable items as they do not replenish until server restart. Regards, Steak.
frosti 2165 Posted December 23, 2013 For weapons your best bet are firestations, barracks and ,military buildings. In those buildings with bar you can rarelly find mosin carabine and m4 in this big residental building type. In small houses you'll usually find at best food and water cans. tommy290 941 Posted December 23, 2013 As Steakums said, find a different server. Look for a low population one. If you're on a high-pop server, even if it just restarts, you'll probably be running into some other survivors who may not be friendly. Low pop gives you just best chance to find stuff. Also, find some places off the coast. Or anywhere that people aren't going to hit immediately. I've had better luck going to some out-of-the-way spots, simply because most people hit up the main hotspots and forget about the outskirts.
Apple Monster 6 Posted December 23, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions. I've been playing on servers with 1 or 10 players on them (since I'm new, don't want to run into any hostiles). Even so, items are SOOO hard to come by. I understand completely about creating the extreme need and value for items in a post ap game, but this is horrid. I'm hoping houses and buildings will be jampacked with things of no value, to at least give the players a sense of realism. They could even have the non rare items break on the first swing or have tons and tons of food thats rotten...not just empty houses with a hat and cooking pot here and there. A better reference for loot would be State of Decay IMO. I like DayZ, but it is by no means close to being a realistic Post AP game. If it is just the server, can someone point me to a server with more ample loot? I want to love this game, but it's hard when all i'm doing is searching a bunch of empty 3D buildings and running into 1 or 2 zombies. I dunno, maybe your right, it's the server I'm prepared to be proven wrong.
Merrick362 (DayZ) 263 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) With the cowboys, I would imagine. On a more serious note, don't even bother with the Cherno apartments. You're better off checking the cars for enough food to survive, and then heading inland as soon as possible. I've found Mosins in cars, in barns, and even in houses. Ammo and bags are usually in construction sites.Ok. That's enough Internet for one night. Edited December 23, 2013 by Merrick362
Zogvarn 118 Posted December 23, 2013 1. Get away from the coast. No, I'm really not trolling. Move inland/north and you'll find more gear. Simple as that. Even on servers that I know haven't rebooted in 4-5 hours I find plenty of gear/food by moving inland/north and checking towns there. Here is a map to help you out DayZ Map - DayZDB 2. The game is in Alpha stage. This isn't some "open beta" style release. It is alpha testing that we payed to do for them. Alpha means things are broke, the vast majority of features are not even coded yet, and there will be huge, game breaking bugs that occur. If you were expecting a more polished game then I suggest waiting a few months and checking back.

I dunno, maybe your right, it's the server I'm prepared to be proven wrong. Stay away from big cities or coastal cities. Get enough water from wells to avoid dehydratation and you will be able to the northern closer towns to the coast. You might find some equipment and food while looking for water but don't expect end game gear. Loot also depends on your luck on what spawned exactly. I once spent ten minutes looking and found several food and water supplies, and another time I spent half an hour just to get one can of sardines (which I couldn't even open!) Clothes in general are pretty common, so are helmet bikes (which provide impact protection in the head). You should not ignore any kind of clothing unless it's worse than the one you currently have, being well clothed decreases the chance of bleeding when hit by the Zeds. At most you will find some common melee stuff. As already answered loot does not replenish after a restart, there for if someone has already been there, though luck for you. Also, There are no "servers with more ample loot". All servers follow the same algorithm to generate loot and while the loot will never be exactly the same in two servers, the chances are. I do understand completely about this being Alpha, and my 4-5hr play session should be tribute to how much I understand things being broken and no real tutorial for UI or control mechanics. lol I've played Alphas before, I was just shocked as to how little loot there was after a hefty play session. Honestly, right now all I want is a freaking backpack! And I have a canteen, how do I fill it with water?
Apple Monster 6 Posted December 23, 2013 1. [...] DayZ Map - DayZDB HOLY CRAP this place is HUGE! lol Has anyone timed how long it takes to run from coast to coast?
Clarkeh 58 Posted December 23, 2013 I would recommend the OP immediately runs north and loots the towns up there, You will find alot more loot up there versus the south towns/cities.
Zogvarn 118 Posted December 23, 2013 From Kamenka to the northernmost well above the NWAF it too me sprinting with a full hunter pack, full food/water/ healthy status, and pristine jungle boots around 45 minutes. And that's not even the northern edge of the map. And I was very hungry/thirsty by the time I got there. Yes the map is huge. If you are jogging it will take 2-3 times as long I imagine. From that same well out in the middle of an empty field northwest of the NWAF to Olsha roughly following the RR tracks it took me something like 2.5 hours switching between sprinting and jogging and stopping twice to loot a couple buildings along the way not to mention eat/drink. I wasn't even being careful either just flat out running in the open and stuff. Sweet thanks for the map! It should have the option to "Fill Canteen/bottle"
