Differences of realism as IRL and game. (M4 Accuracy)

Recommended Posts

For TL;DR: Don't be a douche and say that M4 inaccuracy is "Realistic". This game will go down like WarZ if they don't fix this. Shooting 400 rounds at 60m in a fight with other players because bullets go everywhere and don't hit where I'm aiming at GREATLY REDUCES THRILL, SUSPENSE AND FUN. It just becomes like a random mortar fight.

Make sure that your weapon is 'Pristine'.

As far as I know it affects accuracy, though haven't tested it.

My M4 is pretty accurate, even at a distance.

EDIT:

Uh... it's a part of fixing bugs, that's for sure. Not everything takes a long fucking time like you think. For example, changing perceived brightness when you have sunglasses would only take

-(void) glasses_on

{

[gameview setBrightness 0.8];

}

So much bullshit.

Yes. I played ARMA, ARMA2, ARMA:OA, DayZ mod and this.

personally I have't had trouble at short ranges. and the difficulty of hitting a long range shot is one of the things I like about this game

I recently played through Far Cry 2, and it's 'point and click' shooting was so bad it was almost unintuitive. it was like I had to unlearn everything I know about leading a shot and bullet drop

When I'm aiming and shooting someone one with M4/scoped mosin in the chest the bullet will always hit far left or far right, really annoying.

Yes of course it is bullshit, ever heard of pseudo code?

Your pseudo code stated to Set brightness value, which is wrong in this case.

If you're trying to educate someone and show off your pro coding skills, at least do this properly and think about it. Shouldn't take long for you though, you're coding and fixing bugs in one second, so yeah.

I wish people like you would work in Bohemia and optimise engine even more, so I could enjoy the game even further, without fps drops. Maybe you could do it before going sleep tonight?

He works in fractions of seconds actually. There has been improvement since this thread kicked off.

I don't get the issue. I've hit everything I've shot at up to aprox. 200m. Could be he just moves too fast. I generally take around 3 seconds to line up a target, which is three times the amount of time it would take to just fix the guns so you don't have to know how to aim to hit stuff.

Yeah the correct one would've been this:

-(void) glasses_on

{

float temp=[gameview Brightness]*0.8;

[gameview setBrightness temp];

}

I just wasn't feeling like writing that.

Imo the op is right. i mean why should my m4 spread so hard on a 200-300meter range even if i zeroed. where is the point?

i noticed this too today

i played all arma 2-3 and dayz nearly every mod, just in case

Blom, I gotta say, you've added nothing useful to this thread. You haven't made a valid case against his argument.. only been annoying. With mark on this. I don't know about the sunglasses thing, but the dispersion could easily be changed.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah the correct one would've been this:

float temp=[gameview Brightness]*0.8;

[gameview setBrightness temp];

Indeed this one seems more logical than before. Though I'm not sure why you're suggesting temp value just for that.

Actually in my eyes, he actually added something useful to this thread.

Also, I'd like to say, that you actually need to stop and take a breath or two to rest, so you can aim better. Maybe that's the case. Or maybe my client is cheated, because I've not encountered problems with accuracy yet.

It will LITERALLY take 1 second for the dev to fix. Is it too much for me to ask for when I paid for the product?

i like it this way, this isnt cod.

Like I mentioned, my rifle has been very accurate.

I'm clowning this fool because saying "what the fuck I paid for this and it doesn't work the way I think it should" and "this fix would take LITERALLY seconds, but the devs choose to ignore it" (paraphrasing) just has no place in the discussion at this point.

I just think that tone is stupid, especially at this stage of development. If you don't call out clowns clowns will run rampant.

I think you need to stop chatting in the forums and get your ass to Prague. You are the white knight the dev team has been praying for. Just make sure they don't pay you hourly since you "code" so fast.

Very funny.

As someone else mentioned before, make sure that your weapon is pristine! (this is somewhat broken in the current build :/ )

But that aside, I totally agree, a pristine weapon should be as accurate as it's real life counterpart. You could increase scope sway and things like that. Or have the scope be slightly off to the right/left. But the weapon shouldn't be impossible to aim with.

*I have no clue how accurate the M4 is, I didn't get my chance to shoot one yet. Then again I'd prefer to see the M4 replaced with a soviet style weapon.

EDIT:

i like it this way, this isnt cod.

But it's just as stupid. Have you ever shot a rifle in real life? Unaccuracy should only occur in non-pristine weapons.

Keep in mind that the Arma engine takes very serious note of your character stance and activity.  Lying prone, still and looking down the sights?  Very accurate.  Anything else is less so.  Standing, moving, zoomed out?  Not gonna hit a thing.

EDIT:  Also, Arma is based on every character being a trained rifleman.  DayZ is full of survivors, not presumed to have previous training.  They shouldn't be as skilled with a rifle.  The M4/M16/AR15 is a very accurate platform.  With that said, it's more accurate than the shooter is capable of.  Just because the platform is capable does not mean that a stressed, out of breath, out of shape, hungry, thirsty, possibly ill person could use it well.

Totally agree with this. I was under the impression that M4s were going to be super rare, and military rifles very very rare.

That said, it's the first week of an alpha with more warnings on the box than a pack of cigarettes. I'm certain this is just a temporary implementation they made so they can work on maintaining FPS with a map full of players, objects, and zombies.

Agreed. They said it's just for the general concept of weaponry, so I don't mind too much. Wanna hear about my wet dream?

After entering beta (or earlier) all western weapons are removed! No more millitary weapons. Only civilian, soviet style weapons. (ok, maybe slip in one or two AK's. But when I mean super rare, I mean so rare that urban legends form around them :D )

considering there are military outposts, i dont think they should be "urban legend" rare XD but i do agree they should become more rare

Correct me if I'm wrong.

It doesnt affect bullet spread directly . but my bullet should go to the point where i zeroed my weapon. especially on like 200-300 meter. If you ever shoot a real rifle you would know you can easily hit targets on this distance.

Me and my friends noticed the truly horrible bullet spread on the first and second day of beta, we even all checked by shooting into the same spot of a wall 100m away, we were all horrified by how inaccurate the m4 was.

We tried it a day later and it was fine, we all scratched our heads and said "fine by me" and continued on with our lives.

I think there is a bigger problem with bullets and damage in general. I had many situations where i put whole clip of m4 into a player and he was still runing.

Like on this image my friend shooted this guy 15 times and he was still runing around and chopping us with an axe >>

Yet somehow im often getting 1 shooted in vest and helmet >>

From my own personal experience in the army I remember this:

Laying down on the shooting range with an assault rifle, well fed, rested and concentrating on the task I could hit targets accurately at 100 meters looking through iron sights with relative ease, and I suppose at 200 meters with a little more difficulty. Anything further away was not really feasible. I never tried acogs.

Now, as I recall, the hit pattern was often off to one side, or up or down, meaning the sights were probably off somewhat and had to be compensated for.

Now, being hungry, tired, scared and running for my life, I'd probable personally struggle to hit someone 10 meters away firing from the shoulder.

I haven't had this issue yet, but my friends definitely have! They are thinking that the clothes are blocking the bullet xD But yea I don't think so.

I remember there is a bug that if you pick up someone else's M4 with an ACOG, sometimes your first person view would be off from the actual scope so it would be unusable.
