I cannot believe I created an account to say this' date=' however.

I have yet to play this game because of the dreaded AX at the end of my player ID. With all the press about being released and the huge increase in sales due to this mod itself, BI had to add the AX to the end of player ID's due to the volume of players, i dont have Arma X i have retail with all expansions. This is NOT rockets fault, it is BIs fault for forcing the AX string that broke the mod that got them all these sales. However, the issue is with the "hive" server, NOT the clients. so the patch shouldint fix diddly dick anyway. It is a simple fix to the "hive" that needs fixing that can be fixed from any computer with a simple string of code. Im sure a programmer can back me up on this.

While yes it is a free mod, it is boosting so many sales to Arma that it isint "free" to alot of people. Rocket does owe u an explanation unless something has happened to him regardless of vacation or not. With all his "fame" hes getting comes responsibility, and if he fix it from a computer quickly then he should, if he cant then SOMEONE on the dev team should be able to explain the situation. The fact its been abandoned for 4 days loses alot of trust. He didint have to agree to all this press, the fact it he did, and his own mod is suffering for it because he hasint given a single update, nor anyone on the dev team.

you are wrong dude. we bought arma, which works just fine, not day z. mr hall doesnt owe us shit. there is nothing you can say, no analogy can change that FACT. do you have sat? sometimes it goes out during a storm. do you have internet? sometimes it goes out or hangs or whatever. do you have cell phone? sometimes that doesnt work quite right. not much you can do, and if you call them on it they say tough shit. if it happens too much, they will give you a credit. the difference between that stuff and dayz is called a contract. there is no contract anyplace here. rocket, dayz staff, bis, we made a one time purchase from this company. their responsibility ends there. anything further we get from any of them is a blessing. its good business, but NOT required. a soup kitchen is a great analogy though. if you (RedShadow30) dont show up at the soup kitchen for 4 days your parole officer will have your ass and the judge will put you back in the clink for violating a community service order. otherwise, the VOLUNTEERS (rocket) that work at the soup kitchen can say suck a dick anytime they want. then i guess the homeless would just have to get a job and take care of themselvs, eh? the volunteers can do or not do whatever the fuck they want. VOLUNTEER means doing something because you feel like it, and can be discontinued at any time for any reason.

lets face it, we are all play testing for the most popular game BIS will ever release. its gonna be a massive game when it comes out.

and im loving every minute of helping them play test it.

As far as I know, nowhere on dayzmod.com does it says the mod would run on what you bought.

The about page http://dayzmod.com/about.php says it needs ARMA Combined Operations.

So now you're an expert programmer now? How would you know how that string is used internally by the mod? Maybe it's stored in a database and there are some assumptions about the length of the string which screwed up the mod in some way. Can't tell for sure without access to the code so shut your mouth.

You don't HAVE TO play a game. You were never promised this mod would work with Arma 2. In fact the simple fact that it's an alpha tells you there are NO GUARANTEES.

He doesn't owe you shit. It's a free mod, it's alpha. The players that can actually play it do their job: playing the alpha and reporting issues.

There's nothing to fix. The current alpha version works fine, is stable, people are reporting and should keep report issues with it. This is a thread about a potential future version, which will be made available at some point in the future.

If rocket decides an hour from now that he no longer needs to release apha versions, the world will not end and you don't deserve anything from him or the team.

Oh you bought a game and you can't play it? Tough luck... I'm sure there's at least one person that bought the right game but has a crappy integrated video card and can't play it... it doesn't mean rocket should now make the game work for ALL people.

wow. stay in context huh? obviously they play a role if say you are going to meet the girlfriends parents for the first time, or going to a funeral or something. i was saying they dont mean crap as far as the "fame" side effect aspect of a video game mod. if one doesnt create something to get famous, then yes it is crap, hence "side effect." fame isnt the goal, so in this situation there is no obligation to be polite just because the mod that was made became successful. marketing and whatever is a completely separate thing. the goals there are different. the target group is different.

No, thats why i asked a programmers opinion, and it was the DEV team that said it was a hive server issue and said that it was because it only checked a numarical code and not a hex one. That is not a rocket (haha rocket) science problem, thats a fix the "Check Varify numarical" to "check varify hex" depending on the code. You dont need access to a code to know the problem.

This is kinda interesting.

I say cultural because I think our opinion on these matters are largely based on our culture. Not just the region we come from, but also our position in society, what we know, what we do, who we do it with.

Take me for instance, in my language there is no word for 'please'. Now that I live in an english speaking country, I find that I forget to use it and that it doesn't bother me at all when other people don't use it. That's what I mean by 'cultural'. Still, I'm aware that the brits expect this word so I do my best to remember it, as it is not my intention to offend. Thus, I try to adapt part of their culture to avoid causing friction.

I think you should always try to be polite first, but if people are being dicks there is no such obligation anymore.

Battlefield 3 went months without hearing shit of an upcoming patch, and that was relatively short compared to many other game development cycles.

Shut the fuck up, Rocket keeps us overloaded with updates and details. Hell, most developers don't even TALK to the community on a regular basis, much less DELIVER patches.

The patch was supposed to be out a week ago, he went from what ive seen, keeping in touch with the community daily, to nothing in 4 days, not even on the twitter stream. If hes dead, we will feel like shit, if hes alive then i still hold to my opinion we deserve to know wtf. Could you imagine if he goes to Q n A session with a game magizine and they ask "what the hell is wrong with the hundreds if not thousands of people that cant access your game?" BI would distance themselfs so far from its not even funny. He either knows and is ignoring, or he doesint and is ignoring. He is actively promoting the mod that many new players can access and not many people are going to attempt to play after the first "Cannot connect to server wrong version". He obviously wants all the press he can get if hes promoting it.

Thats my point, hes still active. But think about him getting that issue in the interview, he would almost instantainiously lose all his good press if he didint fix it right then and there. Him not answering our questions only hurts him, not us. Personaly I would pay the shit out of him if I could play the game, and the amount of press hes moving around for and rumors it may be true soon. doesint meen thats a good think though, DICE made the mod Modern Combat for Battlefield 1942, so EA hired them to make Battlefield 2, all downhill from there. on the flipside there is Valve who bought portal, counterstrike, and team fortress 2.
