Sniper Rifles

Recommended Posts

yes thats 200 to 500 meters tops. .50cals go up to 1000m. in ARMA you can go up to 1800m.

Any particual reason why you should be able to snipe that far in DayZ SA other then having imaginary "boner"?

Or do you just roleplay you are elite sniper like Wahlberg in "Shooter"?

Why can't you savor a kill from 500 - 600 meter? Hell they will probably include some rifle that, with correct scope, will allow you to hit at like 800 - 900m ?

Ain't that enough?

U just refer to the 3 lucky shots in the world :P  u are very skilled Shooter when u hit small targets at a range of 1000 metres. Its not something u just do.

1000m with a .308?  Easy peasy if you have the right scope. You're probably not going to hip fire to 1000m no.  But like I said, the correct optics and a 1000m shot with that is NOT hard to do in real life.

Sorry but there is so much wrongness in one post, that it makes my head hurt.

If you can't play DayZ without .50 cals, why the hell aren't you playing Arma 3 (yes, there are .50 cals!!) or even Battlefield 4?

Have you even read anything that Rocket/Devs have written about DayZ? They want to have more of a survival oriented free for all game rather then stupid death match with .50 cal snipers & thermal optics.

And yes, .50 cal sniper were OP as hell, since hit anywhere resulted in death, plus that stupid Thermal version was complete jok,e probably ment for mentally or physically chalenged players as a crutch of sorts.

If DayZ SA ever went the way you want it, it would be the end of it. I hope that will never come to pass.

Becuse there hasent been any info that there wont be any highpower sniperrifles and/or any thermals in Mod OR SA. No official information at all.

So im still going at it.  This is not a FPS fast-action-game, therefor i do not play bf4 or any other "fastfood"-game. I want the stalking and the several hours you spend just clearing a small local area. No other game can give u this and its purley in survival instinct.

And no, the only "mental" people here are the once who never learned the map good enough to avoid the obvious dangers ahead or spent to little time just legging it tru the forest/towns.

It should take you several hours just to approach a town to make sure there is no threat.

But hey, i dont expect anyone to enjoy survival that much. But i do and therefor i want them to return.

And no, it wouldnt be the end of SA.

Thats just the view from your personal referense. But if we shall belive in the pure numbers/knowledge from the mod we have the conclution that highpowerd sniperrifles actualy increased the enjoyment/total playerbase of the game (during the early beta and up to the firest Mod-Mod's like taviania etc the numbers of players just keept increasing).  We will see what SA brings and how it looks with the new mechanics. But dont refer to bullshit that aint official and then state that its this or death.

You obv enjoy casual survival concept with user interactions. Personaly i prefer the lonely forest and the cold steel of my riffle, i do not wish to interact with anyone - but if i do its a well planned/orchisterd bullet to the head that took over 3 hours just to set up. Thats the rewarding enjoyment of this game for me. And if you have any other personal preferences i gladly hear about them.

Hell you can do it with a 5.56.

The very last year I attended the National Marine Corps Shooting Match in Camp Perry Ohio, it was won by a Female Marine using a heavily modified AR-15 (1000 yard competition).

Having said that, wind is a huge problem for the 5.56 at extreme ranges due to the size of the bullet.

Regardless, it happens.

But people shoot 1000 yards with .308 with little trouble.

Or as one of my father's previous employer states about the round, "supersonic at 1200 yards with the energy of a freight train".

On the actual intelligent side of things, the AS50 is a gas powered rifle and is made by the British. Why would I want to have to rely on gas that would run out because more gas is not coming into chernarus anymore. If it was Russian then I could see that happening but why would a British rfle exist in some part of Russia no one cares about?

This.....just wow.  LOL.  STAHP!

Come on, now it is you who refers to bullshit that aint official when stating that the mod was popular because of .50 cal snipers.

This simply is not truth although I don't know about any hard number that would prove my or your point, in this case.

And that's all good, but why can't you enjoy it with good 'ole hunting rifle in hand?

You are supposed to be a survivor of zombie apocalypse, not Rambo totting .50 cal, plus this could be very immersion breaking when speaking  of post-Soviet countries like this imaginary Chernarus.

Oh, so, your civilian AR-15 has full auto?

Attention everyone, we've found a bullshitter, i say again, attention everyone, we have located a grade-A Bull-shitter!

He could if he had a Class III FFL.  The more you know....

.50 Cal is not a Sniper Rifle, It's a 3 MoA weapon, it just makes loud noises and shoots anti aircraft rounds and the Mosin was an awesome sniper rifle in it's day, by todays standard when we are using a quarter of MoA Sniper systems with 300 Win mag it would be nice to have an extremely rare rifle that's worth a damn.

They aren't the same caliber, the bore is the same diameter. Sniper rifles have been around since the 1700s and the Mosin-Nagant was certainly capable of being a sniper rifle.

This man says the Mosin is a sniper rifle

Please note:  There is no such thing as a "Sniper Rifle".  There are bolt action and semi-auto rifles designed to be used at range.

They're only considered a "Sniper Rifle" when wielded by a trained Sniper.

Having said that, I don't really think any long rifle within reason should be restricted.

However, not a single .50 cal weapon should exist in this game.  They are far too expensive and rare for some sort of Russian Police force or local military to use.

Whilst I disagree with a .50 cal being in the game, there are a ton of modernized Russian sniper rifles that would likely be in a military base, even in a zombie apocalypse. I believe guns like the ORSIS T-5000, and the SV98 with the .338 Lapua Magnum shouldn't be impossible to find, guns like that need to be in the game.

I have fired a Barret .50 cal , the recoil is extremely impressive, you can't fire it without a bipod. So if it must be in the game, you shouldn't be able to hit a moving target without being prone at the least.

Immersion ruined.   :P

Well, this is chernarus, imaginary part of czech republic.

It being former eastblock country, or even if it really was russia, doesn´t automaticly mean every citizen is a gun smuggling, freedom hating bond villain.

I meant the military and/or police forces in that area wouldn't have the funds to purchase a weapon like that.  So you're not likely to find one.

It's not like they'd say "oh shit, Zombies are here.  Better order a .50 cal."

I tested the UP scope for mosin and it doesn't work like the long range scope. The long range scope requires for you to aim a little bit to the right in order to hit the target on the left (2-4 milimeters depending on range). However, the UP scope makes the shots loopy, idk why. I tested both scopes with 10 rounds on each scope, weirdly enough works this way.

Maybe there where super zombies like the tanks from L4D and .50 cal's where the best to get them, its dayz - everybody makes his own story.

Chernarus is not apart of the check republic... I lol at the miss information out there as people assume the terrain is fake like every other game. I once even saw someone say that the ocean around chernarus was a river in real life... Lol

Wait what game are you playing?

Also yes, hand selecting the best performing and most accurate hunting/service rifles and adding precision optics to them is literally creating a sniper rifle. Just because they now make dedicated sniping rifles doesn't change that.

Edit: Also the Remington 700 is a hunting rifle that military and law enforcement adopted for sniping.

The first sniper rifles were just your basic grunts rifle with a telescopic sight on it.

Can some long-time ARMA player tell me and the others what the M107,KSVK and the AS50 are being used for for in ARMA?
