VAC going live

Recommended Posts

So there has been very little doubt that the initial VAC launch was unsuccessful to say the least. When are we going to have an actual AntiCheat solution for the hacking problems MANY people are facing right now? I'm not playing the game anymore until VAC is ACTUALLY ON.

Please sideline everything until VAC is stable with DayZ, or you're going to lose sales and probably receive chargebacks. (From me included)

I have no idea what you are talking about when you say MANY players are having issues with hackers. I haven't had a problem with them so far, and one of the major issues (spawning gear) has been fixed since.

There's probably a good reason VAC isn't enabled yet. One of them is due to general performance we're told, so have patience it will be turned on. But please remember this is Alpha, things will get messy. You should have read the disclaimer on Steam Early Access in more detail before buying this.

I understand having broken game functionality, and overall an unfinished, unpolished game, I bought it expecting these things and have no problem whatsoever with it. However hacking is another thing entirely, and VAC should be a priority or this game will wind up exactly where the mod does in this respect, dead and hacked to death.

I paid 30 dollars to help with development and watch the development process in the works. However I can't test the game for that purpose if others are exploiting vulnerabilities with memory editing software. If you're going to publicly announce that VAC is active, it should be that way, ACTIVE. Not off.

I think the majority of people getting killed by "hackers" are just dying and blame it on hackers.( not saying you specifically, just overall) I have been playing Dayz since it was at around 80,000 players, and i have only encountered hackers about 3 or 4 times. It's an issue, but it's not THAT bad (at least from my experience and my ten other friends who also play dayz, who have rarely encountered hackers).

So many people who think "their" favorite thing should be priority. I imagine that the devs have their reasons and are working on the issues of importance as they deem fit.

I have been watching streams around the clock and logging many hours on the alpha since its release, and I haven't seen one incidence of hacking. Hackers love to stream snipe especially back in the mod days so where are they exactly?

You have to figure out the vulnerabilities and what is being done to combat hacking in the first place. Early Alpha often comes with no anti hack measures in place and that is a trade off. Hacking has turned into a game of cat and mouse and developers can learn quite a bit from examining the vulnerabilities being exploited and the best time to do this is during the Alpha.

Beyond that I have not seen a hacker yet. I experienced a person glitching to get out of dying that to someone who was unaware of the glitch would assume was hacking, but I have yet to see someone actually hacking in the game yet. I know people probably are hacking and it will probably get worse before it gets better, but it is nothing compared to the early days of the mod which is a relief.

Edit: My personal priority would be a better loot spawning system, but everyone has a different priority as pointed out above and the best I can do is hope that the loot spawn system is addressed in a somewhat timely fashion.

You're right, hacking may be more limited in scale than it was with the mod as of right now. Which is exactly why VAC needs to be actually on now so things like your suggestion of a better looting system and other game mechanics can be worked on. Anticheat, however, needs to be given priority number one so that it doesn't turn into the fiasco like the mod did in this respect.

You can post, oh boy this topic again, or whatever and not help, but when the hacking gets really bad because VAC still isn't on, you'll know it should have been a priority early on.

That is my 2 cents all in all. It needs priority.

EDIT: To address your other point of developers being able to patch security vulnerabilities and create better protection against scripters, the same amount of development occurs with those exploiting vulnerabilities and using scripts. The more downtime from VAC leads to scripters being able to perfect their scripts before they're unable to test them in a live environment, which is exactly why it's better to solve this issue early on rather than later when it's a major issue.

Like someone else said everyone has a different priority when it comes to what needs to be fixed but I will caution that they should leave it vulnerable for at least a short period to really test what vulnerabilities are being exploited in the architecture to prevent future hacking episodes. I know in the short term it will suck but long term it will mean a better anti cheat system.

As long as you are not flaming I will never post not this again, people have legitimate concerns and as long as they are posted intelligently I think more people on the forum should be willing to hear them out.

I have officially be told by valve it is on, it is live. I have requested this to be reconfirmed so many times, I suspect they will stop answering my emails.

VAC is not the only anti-cheat solution that is implemented. And no anti-cheat solution will protect the game from architecture/engine problems, which is what we are currently fixing. We identify the vulnerability and we patch it.

Edit: If you have questions/doubts - I recommend you create a steam support ticket. We don't control VAC, Valve does, and they assure me that DayZ is enabled and active for VAC. If you don't believe me there is nothing I can do to convince you and you should ask Steam directly as THEY run VAC.
