How do you refill canteen/water bottle?

I stood next to a well or in a pond and right clicked the items above and only the " drink" function is available. How to refill them? My character is dying of dehydration.

Don't think it works at ponds yet. But, you can fill them at the wells found behind some houses. Just hold it in your hand and it should give you the option if you mouse scroll while looking at the well.

Yeah you have to equip it in your hand in order to refill it

I refilled and drank straight out of a pond about 30 minutes ago... worked just fine.

 

I'm sick, now, but I think I was sick prior - who knows.

also, i found some gum-like item where it says you can cleanse the water by putting it into the canteen. very interesting find.

I believe you need to have the water container in your hands also you say your dying of dehydration yet you are near a well?

I am confused about drinking from a well. If I drink from my canteen filled with pond water, there is a chance to get sick right? But if I drink from my canteen filled with well water, is there still a chance to get sick? Is there any water source you can get water from that doesn't give you a chance of getting sick? Do I have to use purification tabs on anything I refill in order to avoid getting sick from the water?
