Other than the network effect, what's the pro of DayZ SA?

Recommended Posts

I've played for some time now, and I have to say, it's not quite what I'd expected.

They say it lacks features at this time because it's alpha and they're concentrating on the "framework".

but..... other than enterable buildings, what changed?

other than enterable buildings, this is in worse state than the original mod at its alpha.

So the question is: other than people boarding the hype train (dayz is nothing without players), what is the 'standalone' good for? When I heard it was a 'standalone', I expected the framework to be changed. I think most of you agree that it still looks like a plain ol' bohemia interactive's buggy engine coupled with dayz. (The worst thing about bohemia's engine is the fire rate lock with local fps. It was like it in ARMA2 and ARMA3. The ones with bad computer has extremely lower fire rate for weapons.)

Call me a fanboy, but guess what I totally love? The inventory! Not so much the UI of it, although it isn't bad, but much rather the fact that "things" interact so much with each other. I think it's freaking awesome!

CLOTHING! Such a huge win! You can tell people from each other, and really have your own look! Best thing that ever happend, and maybe ever will ;) Plus it's functional

you don't understand what they mean with by framework. can you build a mansion on a foundation of an old cabin? things are possible now that weren't or would have just been clunky and kinda ugly. several dayz mod spinn offs come to mind. look at SA right now. its smoother, it has an engine capable of many new things.

they integrated arma 3 into the SA just for that reason, because the things they had planned were not functionally capable  on the arma 2 weapon. and even if they remotely were, the more you fiddle with an old db to patch in new things the slower and slower the client becomes

basically they can do whatever the frig they want now. imagination and ingenuity my friend, it can go a loooong way

I guess the standalone at its current stage hasn't got much more than the mod except enterable buildings and faster loading times and stuff like that....nothing majorly different yet but then again the only thing that i wanted to change was the zeds and they have....although they still walk right through walls they are easier to hit now as they dont zigzag and shit except in buildings as if you stand up and sometimes when crouching your hatchet hits the roof and not the zeds and ofc they can hit you through the floor sometimes that's a little annoying but will be fixed i suppose. You need to remember that the mod itself has been taking stuff from standalone in recent patches ....that's why you probably don't see as much of a difference.

I really don't think you understand the point. They just finished the framework for what they want to do in the future. It's still being worked on.

Once all that is sorted out there can be so many things added without having to spend weeks to work around the limitations of the ARMA 2 engine.

I swear to god if I hear this one more time, I'm gonna E-bitchslap the one that says it. Apparently you didn't play the mod when it came out, so you have NO room to talk about things being worse. Just because you can't read "WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.".

This is why people WERE NOT supposed to buy the standalone on release because it's still a work in progress. Now all the people that were stupid enough to jump on the hype train expecting the game to be awesome on release are crying like infants that got vanilla ice cream when they wanted chocolate. Instead of being part of the experience and testing it, you're bitching.
