Zoom for Iron Sights / Red Dots, etc.

Recommended Posts

Watching the most recent Q&A stream, I feel like the zoom for weapons without magnifying scopes seems a little extreme.

When the character aimed the pistol, it looked like he was holding it maybe 5 cm. away from his face, which looks really strange and awkward to me, and the red dot sight on the M4 seemed to zoom in a lot, too.

Personally, I would prefer weapons without any sort of magnifying optic to not have any zoom at all (e.g pistols should look like this in first person: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/558718111937217943/EEB77400FA8C35ED927FF81A0A241EDBDF7B615F/1024x640.resizedimage, looks more like how somebody would actually hold a pistol), since it still looks like you can still hold down a button to zoom in even more like you can in DayZ mod. Maybe some sort of ADS slider from no zoom at all to maybe 2X zoom? Any suggestions are welcome.

EDIT: I just want to clarify, because people seem to think I want no zoom whatsoever for weapons without zoom scopes. I do not think that there should be no zoom, I still think that holding RMB (Or whatever button you use in the mod) to get extra zoom, and I think that you should be able to choose your amount of zoom, or FOV, when aiming. It's just that I would personally use the option for the least amount of zoom possible. I don't think everyone should have to.

I think the zoom kind of try's to simulate focus.

Indeed. Trying to view the world through a desktop monitor brings with it the question of whether to use a realistic magnification and sacrifice peripheral field of view, or zoom out to a fishbowl view affording a degree a peripheral vision but at the cost of fidelity. I think having a "zoom" function when bringing weapons up is a good compromise.

I'd like to see an option to change the focus instead of an ability of zooming in with iron sights.

I don't like ArmA 3 because I can't see anything at 300 meters. Objects appear 2/3 the size that they do in ArmA 2.

I can see stuff clearly at 300 meters in real life, so I want that to be in game. My eyes have a higher resolution than a computer screen.

Maybe it's just my small monitor, but I need some kind of zoom.

Just imagine you close one eye, sacrificing almost half of your peripheral vision.

Then they should narrow the fov when you aim to "simulate" focus

Gews that is one trick to make ArmA 3 run better than ArmA 2 which is one of the major differences you can notice. I also have difficulties detecting targets beyond those ranges because the LOD is just beyond 1990s standards. While you can still see targets in ArmA 2 provided they do not match the surface they are on and it's much easier to spot a moving target even if if matches the color of it's surroundings.

Like I said, I don't think everyone should be forced to play with no zoom. It looks like you can still hold down RMB (If that is what you use) to get extra zoom, and I also think you should be able to choose your FOV when aiming. I'm not trying to take away anyone's zoom at all, I just think there is a bit too much as it is now, especially for pistols.
