Something that happened to me and changed DayZ for me

Recommended Posts

Well this is the story of something that really happened to me last week, and I think I will never get an experience like this in any other game. It wasn't just a lesson of DayZ, but a lesson for me to take in any situation of my life.

The first time I played this mod was in a friend's house. I really liked it so after some months I decided to play it too.

I spawned on the coast and decided to go loot some food in the nearest town. I didn't want to be a bandit; nor a hero. I would do what ever it takes to stay alive, by killing or helping.

The first thing I did when I got in the city was to look up in the grocery store, for food obviously. Then I managed to loot other parts of the city and by the time I already had a shotgun and a revolver it was already nightime. I wouldn't leave just because it was dark so I stayed inside the school.

In the rooftop, I started to look around, but it was really dark and I couldn't see very well. Suddenly I saw a light inside a building, but it was too far so I couldn't see well.

After a few minutes I heard shots. This was the first time I heard shots in DayZ so I got scared and tried to look around. So I saw two guys, one with a chemlight and the other seemed to be teamed up with him, they were going to the school I was in. So I went down the stairs to look for them, holding nervously my shotgun. The first man came in and I didn't shoot. The first thing he said was "friendly!" So I started to talk with him. Then his friend came up saying he saw "the bandit running".

I asked them if I could team up with them and they accepted me. The man's friend went up the roof to scout for the bandit while me and the man stayed in the first floor talking. I told him this was my first time playing for real and he told me that they would help me out with stuff.

After a while I heard bullets fired and the guy on the roof said that he killed the bandit, he also said "let's go check it out, he has good loot". Indeed, he should have. But I said it would be dangerous to go outside.

The man told me to relax and that it would be fine, they would protect me. His plan was to loot the body and then loot the grocery store or whatever that is.

Scared, I went there with them and there was no loot in the bandit. Not even a gun... someone else already looted him.

I suggested to go back to the school, but the man insisted in looting the store. Only seeing things because of his chemlight, there we went.

So while looting the place, I heard a shot and suddenly I was down with broken legs and bleeding, or something like that. I couldnt move or even see anything, and I was in panic because the rain of bullets that were being fired. The man and his friend shot a lot of bullets and then his friend died. He was the last man standing.

When I was almost out on blood, the man killed the shooter and then tried to fix me. The thing is, the bullets attracted at least 30 zombies or more and they were already in the door, entering the store.

I said "You don't have to do this, the zombies will get you. Just leave me and run man."

He kept fixing me with bandages, morphine, bloodbags etc.. After a while, when I was finally okay, he said "I didn't pull his trigger, but your blood was on my hands". At first I didn't get it but then I realised he said that because he was the one who brought me to the store and by consequence, to that situation. I never blamed him for that, though.

Already damaged by some bullets, the man was caught by the zombies and died. I still could live so I ran to the back door and escaped safely.

Because of that day, I started killing too, to somehow avoid people on my way. It was a bloody night in Cherno.

Turns out I always had this bandit friend who everyone in DayZ would call an asshole. He kills on sight, screams at people everytime and is absolutely insane. After that experience in the grocery store, the next day in real life I started playing with this bandit friend I had. With him, I learned how to be a bandit and the basics of banditry, I learned how to be mercyless and to have no remorse.

He and I always killed everyone. I just wanted the gear, but he wanted to kill for the sake of it. Sometimes I even said "man, just let him go, he has nothing." And my friend said "fuck it." And bang, the newbie is dead.

He also only cares about him and I always felt like he was using me.

And this way we played for so many time... months.

There was even one time that I fixed a helicopter but there were a lot of zombies coming, so he entered the helicopter and left me there to death. His excuse was "there was no time".

He did this kind of thing repeatedly. Some say he may be more like a mean old-brother, but no, he's just... fake.

So after so much banditry, our story came to the last chapter.

In another night in Cherno, my friend, me and Light (a friend of ours) were scavenging for ammo. Light was always a hero so he and my friend didn't talk much, i think they didn't like each other. My friend was more like Merle and Light was more like... Rick.

After looting some places, we heard shots in the distance. My bandit friend obviously made us go check it out, and so we did. It was dark, and in front of the church there was a fireplace and a random bus.

We slowly entered the church to look for the shooter. Light kept telling us to go back, but me and my friend resisted and went there.

I don't know exactly what I felt when I first stepped there. There was a bandit pointing a gun to some guy's head, and a dead body on the floor.

"Stop right there!" I said. The bandit just said "no, get the hell out or I'll kill him."

I didn't care much, I was a bandit anyway. But I wanted to give the man a chance to live, so I stayed there and threat the bandit: "I will kill you if you shoot him". So the bandit shot him and I think the bullet hit his legs. Me, Light and my friend opened fire against the man, who right before dying, said "I'll call my backup."

After that he shot Light in the head and died, leaving his victim in our hands. Then my friend said "let's just kill this guy and get his loot". I think I agreed, but he said "please, don't". This was when I recognized his voice. The same guy from the first time I played, who saved me in the grocery store. That... old man strong voice. It was him. For sure, I'm 100% sure.

My friend pointed the gun to his head. I said "No, leave him alone. He has nothing!" And do you know what my friend said? "Fuck it."

Bang.

The man was bleeding in two different places, my friend didn't hit the head I don't know why. I screamed "STOP!" And when my friend was going to pull the trigger, I quickly remembered everything he did to me and the kind of person he was. So I shot his head and went there to fix the man.

I bloodbagged him and everything, and said"

"I know you didn't pull the trigger. But man, the blood was never on your hand. Not here, and not in that damn grocery store. Everything is a consequence of what happens before..."

I still was going to say a few more things, but in a short pause, the bandit's backup appeared and shot a thousand bullets in my back. I never got to know what happened to the man, but I'm glad I passed my message.

Yes, this happened, and I just wanted to share with you guys so you can know how important it is to give survivors a second chance. Even if you are a bandit...

I must admit this is the first story like this in a long time, that I've read to the very end. Awesome tale to tell BlurHitz and thank you for telling it!

this is the reason I have followed Day Z for a year without being able to play, and why I spent $1500 on a computer to play this now lol
