TheLastEmp 295 Posted November 29, 2013 My rig:AMD FX-4100 running at 3.8Ghz8GB RAM @ 1866GTX 660 3GB with a small OC7200 RPM optical HDWindows 7 I'm getting ~15 FPS (20 max) in the big cities and only about 25-34 outside of the cities... I feel like I've tried every suggestion in every guide on these forums and can't seem to get a decent frame rate... The ONE thing I've noticed that might be an indicator of the problem, is that I've been monitoring my GPU's power consumption using EVGA Precision X, and it NEVER gets above 70%... Even with the settings maxed... It stays between 100-110% when playing BF4 and other games... Any ideas?
Jfiles 439 Posted November 29, 2013 Arma 2 is not in anyway optimized. So that is actually really good fps for you. Compared to common players. When the standalone comes out it will work better
colekern 1364 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) That my friend is a good case of a crappy server. Arma 2 is not in anyway optimized. So that is actually really good fps for you. Compared to common players. When the standalone comes out it will work better Yeah, it's not optimized, but it's not even remotely close to that bad. Op, you mind telling me your regular FPS in offline Arma 2? Also, check out this guide: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/28160-guide-how-to-set-up-your-graphics-properly/ Edited November 29, 2013 by colekern
enforcer1975 1111 Posted November 29, 2013 My best guess is it is the CPU...i have an i7 2600K with a GTX 580 running mostly on high settings and i get a decent 35fps in towns ( which still doesn't run fluid enough sometimes imo ) and almost always 50-60fps outside. Chernarus sucks on the hardwareside anyway compared to Takistan or other islands.
applejaxc 2500 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) \So that is actually really good fps for you. Compared to common players. No it's not; I have the same <100% power usage for my hardware, and I've only got 2.1Ghz processor/an integrated Intel "HD 3000" laptop graphics card, yet my PC is going better than his at medium settings. So... Edited November 29, 2013 by Applejaxc
fluxley 2228 Posted November 29, 2013 Dont know if this will help but check this thread out http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/152322-cannot-break-35-fps/ The guy had a similar problem with an fx-6300 and apparently fixed it by setting his startup parameters to -cpuCount=3 So for you try setting it to -cpuCount=2 Not sure why it would work but as an uneducated guess i think it might be that arma/windows7 doesnt recognise the new architecture of the FX chips correctly. Here's a write explaining how the FX chips differ from other cpu's if you want to understand it a bit more http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1e8226/discussion_amds_module_architecture_the_fx_8350/ Also heres the windows 7 patch which should get you better performance overall http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594
TheLastEmp 295 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the quick replies everyone... I had foolishly set the core count to 4... 2 makes a bit more sense for trying to get it to make the most of the CPU. I'll give everything a try and let you guys know what happens! EDIT: just changing the cpuCount to 2 has made a massive difference. 40-60 FPS outside of towns and 27-35 inside elektro.Downloading the Windows 7 hotfix for FX processors now... Ill let you know the results. Edited November 29, 2013 by TheLastEmp
