Ui system idea for quick gear gettin

Recommended Posts

an idea for the controls of dayz pretty much you can bind a key so if you pick up an item hitting the key you binded it will go to that piece of clothing or storage container E.G. i bind the numblock key 1 for my pants 2 for my hoodie and 3 for my kevlar vest then 4 for my backpack, 6 for my container and 7 for my medkit

Just seems a little.. over kill. It would only take seconds to move gear to said articles of clothing.

and? imagine if your in a real life apocalypse you run in grab the item and stuff it into your pocket not stare at it for a few ecoonds before taking it, thinking about maybe not be able to bind key to backpack or storage containers

well, the current object interaction in armaII/dayz mod is probably the most awkward i have ever seen..

binding a hotkey to "fastgrab" an item into your main inventory container seems logical, but binding keys for every single possible container? might be nice to have as a possibility, together with 150 other actions that we modern gamers like to have keybound :P

It will still take you a couple of seconds to pick it up and stuff it into your backpack IRL, even longer than you currently do in game with a double click imo. If anyone then i had to whine about that system because due to TrackIR my point of aim and line of sight don't always correspond to eachother making it difficult to focus on the "action spot". I do agree that the pickup system is kind of stupid because it sometimes shows you items you can pick up but you don't want so you still have to use the gear menu. I don't know if it would be better if you had a sort of "take" button you have to hold facing a loot pile then scroll your mouse wheel then click lmb to take it. It would still take as long and might also be a bit fiddly for some. The ArmA 3 drag and drop system is quite good but still needs improving.

Who cares about 1.5 seconds klickin in the inventory, when there is a "get out of pants" "get into new pants" animation after that anyways.

Either you are safe enough to change clothes or you shouldn't change anyways. I don't believe SA will be "grab loot and run". We'll spend a lot more time at a single location than before.

So far the longer you spend in a location the more likely you encouter a trigger happy player. With the zeds roaming around all the time at least this shit has been addressed, i hope some add a few persistent zeds in towns so players can't use that against you in the mod.

Already confirmed that there will be a hotkey to pick up items without going into your inventory.

You can double click an item and the engine will place it in the next available slot.

You can look at something and press 'action' and it will take it into inventory, if you have space.

I really dont see much value in having mutiple keys assigned, as just having one key will be much quicker than having to remember which item of clothing has enough slots then selecting the appropriate key.

And if time is not an issue you can just go into your inventory and organise as you please.

Plus those keys will be used for the main hotbar.

I don't think it's that key-dependent. I don't think "pick up" and "use" are too many options for loot in a game that is based around scavenging for .. well... loot.

What is unnecessary tough is mapping it to bodyparts. Unless there are intentions to make an animation for a player trying to stick his head through pants, I suppose our legs will stay the only place to equip pants for a while. "Use pants" could therefor only mean "put it on your gear-legs-slot if empty or replace with current item there" Like Use bandage, use water bottle, use flashlight. There is not really much alternatives what to do with them other than picking them up or doing with them, what they are meant to do.

I think you might have misunderstood my post, i was saying that i think the op's idea of having a separate key for each item of clothing was unnecessary.just like you.

edit: Ha, that came out wrong, not suggesting that you are unnecessary.
