ShobbeZ 5 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) So. Today i collected some gear from a tent that i found and it was full of weapons and supplies. I was happy because i found a mk 48 mod 0 and a m40a3. I wanted to ''try'' these weapons.I went to elektro, (it was about 3000m from where i was). So i was contentiously walking for about 20, 30 minutes. When i got there i got in one of them pine trees and zeroed my rifle for the correct range for the firestation (not the one at the powerplant). Sat there and waited for about 10 minutes, a bandit showed up. He went up on the ladder to the top of the firestation. I almost instantly shot him when he stopped moving. After that the same guy came back after about 5 minutes. He wanted to collect his gear, i shot him again because i show no mercy for bandits. Shortly after that i hear a lough behind me, then i got shot to death by my own mk 48 that was in my backpack. I just feel like, WHY DID I NOT MOVE? <_< I camped that pine tree like a idiot. Anyone here that have a similar story? :D EDIT: I did only kill that bandit! Edited November 13, 2013 by ShobbeZ

green-K- 101 Posted November 13, 2013 I hope he used a condom. OT: You learned your lesson, change your position as often as possible - best case: after every shot, and every time you think you got spotted.

herrjon 478 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) Skins don't mean anything really, I've been helped by a bandit and shot by a hero, all in the same engagement (whilst wearing a hero skin). Unless you witness them killing someone in cold blood, you don't know how they got that skin. So yes, finding a sniper rifle and popping down to Elektro to camp "for funzies" is banditry. There's nothing wrong with that, just don't try to deny it. More on topic I suppose, you do need to change positions constantly, and always keep your eyes and ears open to what's around you. Far too many people keep their eyes glued to their scope they have no clue what's happening around them, until it's too late. Try to be creative with your spots too. Everyone knows and expects there to be snipers on Dobbry hill 24/7, but as KoS pointed out, they didn't expect the lighthouse. Diggydug (DayZ) 331 Posted November 13, 2013 How did he get in your pack without you noticing? It makes a sound, right? How did he get that close to you without you noticing? A lesson learned, I hope. I have no experiences like that but I'll share a friend's story since he does these things.________________________ He was going to Elektro and heard sniper fire so he decided to investigate Sniper Hill with a Winchester he had on him. He went all the way up, looked around, and found three guys, side by side, all looking down into Elektro. Two survivors, one ghillie. He went to the side of them, and shot one in the head. The other two stood up. He shot them in the head consecutively, which was easy enough considering they apparently didn't dart apart, but instead their initial reaction was to just look around. He got more loot from these guys than he could ever carry, all thanks to their stupidity and his skill with a Winchester. Good on him. From what it sounds like, to me the other two weren't sure how their friend died and were looking to see who-dun-it, which is dumb still, but the Winchester is a quiet weapon compared to others so possible they barely heard it. Either way, they made the same mistake of sniping Elektro and not moving. Another mistake of sitting in a line so if one was seen, they all were.
Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) So yes, finding a sniper rifle and popping down to Elektro to camp "for funzies" is banditry. Despite not being a bandit, I (and many 'true' bandits) would disagree rather strongly with that. A bandit is someone who will hold you up/kill you because they want your stuff. Killing other players without reason or provocation is KoS/murderer behaviour. Not that I'm suggesting there's anything wrong with the KoS/murderer playstyle (because I really don't want to start yet another KoS discussion), but it's definitely distinct from bandit behaviour. That's just a difference in semantics, which has been discussed at length in other threads. Yes the definition of "bandit" is as you said, but a "DayZ bandit" as is it commonly refered to, is the KoS/muderer person. Whatever you want to call it, the OP was camping with a sniper rifle and killing, being a "DayZ bandit" as I would say, or whatever term you like to use. And yet he's trying to deny that or justify it with bandit skin discrimination.
Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted November 13, 2013 I've never heard it referred to as 'DayZ Bandit', that one's new to me, but I won't argue that there are far too many people that use the word 'bandit' incorrectly to describe the type of play the OP is describing. It's one of my pet peeves. Nothing worse than seeing someone ask why they were killed for no reason in side chat and seeing the reply 'lol cuz I am a bandit'. My desk is starting to get a head-shaped imprint in it. :p

But still i just don't like bandit's. I have been a bandit though, but am usually in a hero skin. And i love helping people. One time i even took out a zombie horde that attacked a poor little bambi fella. Bandaged and bloodbaged him back up! ;)

I listened to music whilst sniping. (One of the most stupid things i have actually done).2. He must have flanked around me from behind, i was sniping on dobbry hill. (Again one more stupid thing). mercules 1290 Posted November 14, 2013 First rule of sniping. After shooting, reposition. Listening to music while playing DayZ? Especially while moving around the area of Elektro? <_< At least you admit you were dumb for doing that.
Actually Bobby 7 Posted November 14, 2013 I was doing an Ai side mission so I was taking out the Ai at long distance. I was moving and then I see an chinook flyover with a gunner. They didn't shoot so I assumed they didn't see me. So I continue with the mission then I hear shots from behind and my friend is killed around 100m to my west. I was a little skittish, when I did this I was new to DayZ. So I sat there are just waited and then I take a shot to the head. Realized that I can't just sit and hide...
