Massive FPS drop for a £1100 PC.

Recommended Posts

Well I have a really powerful PC, can run Arma 3 on maxed out everything. However DayZ... NOPE.

Here are my specs that I can get 60FPS with.

I get about 150+Frames on maxed Arma 3.

The problem with the DayZ mod is that the information gathered on the map is based on the client (loot, zombies, player's actions, building conditions, etc) .. All this into consideration happens to decrease performance overall as this is all CPU extensive and it hardly utilizes any GPU.

This is supposibly solved with the network bubble in the upcoming Standalone version (Keep in mind the red circle is an estimate): http://i.imgur.com/5ezHgnh.jpg

As you can see, you can recognize the usage of client information that's highlighted in blue as it takes up the entire map.

It's not your computer; of course.

  • Have you ever tried tweaking with your .cfg files that can be found in "My Documents"? (ARMA 2 and ARMA 2 OA)
  • Have you tried running it on a lower resolution/other graphic settings?

I've tried:

Config editing

Running on lowest settings (Even using Nvidia to lower those settings further)

For the most part; your frames are acceptable. Throughout my whole time playing the DayZ Mod, I haven't seen or heard anyone hitting over +60 frames unless they were in an empty field like debug.

The occurrence of frame drops are..

  • Servers that are under constant stress with a large amount of players and long restart periods (such as every 4 hours)
  • Large cities, buildings and forests contribute to this factor.

My recommendation is try playing on another server with less players or more restarts.

I'd also like to say every update the mod receives, it also helps with the overall performance so it's good to be up-to-date.

As for the Standalone version, all this is revised and currently is being optimized prior to release.

Yea, I'll die before the standalone comes out. I may as well play Zoombies on Arma3.

Just to point out, the mod is only an alpha version as it states on the main page of this website.

I'm generally against "auto-configure" type programs, but I downloaded and used geforce experience and let it optimize the graphics settings and it actually worked quite nicely.  Things seem to look better than  they did, and run better.  Not quite sure what setting I had goofed up but it fixed it.  I am running a i5-3570k OC'd to 4.3 with a gtx760 and get 60 fps until I hit the bigger cities and it can drop into mid 20s - 30s.  ** This set most my settings to high just to note, no major sacrifices were made in quality for performance.

This has very little to do with your graphics card and more to do with the server/client connection. Question. Have you tested this across multiple servers? Have you tested this by running the mod offline? My FPS often varies with the quality of the server I'm on, and I have a pretty old gaming laptop. Look for servers that have the best connection/give you the best possible framerate. Don't bother lowering your settings to try and squeeze performance, it's pointless. In fact, sometimes lower settings result in a poorer framerate.

Also, I love how all the new members of this forum seem to think they know everything there is to be known about the Standalone. You're clearly new and yet you make comments like "I'll die before the SA comes out." Quite foolish, since many of us have been waiting since last September (when the SA was announced) and we're doing just fine. You people act like this is the next Duke Nukem or some shit, when the reality is that one year of development is not a lot of time in the video game industry. No wonder game companies generally keep their projects under tight wrap; people can't comprehend the simple idea of a work in progress.

I don't know if anyone has thought about this yet, but a lot of people come on here saying, that they get shit FPS on DayZ, while in reality they're just playing Epoch, hence the FPS-Drops.

Since 1.8 DayZ runs extremely smooth and I can actually run through Cherno having 50 FPS or even record and still have 60 FPS.

If you're playing Epoch however, that's a completely different story.

EDIT: It's also extremely serverdependant. Try different servers.

Bullshite

This. Here are 2 benchmarks with maxed out details in more and less action-packed scenes:

Arma3_Bench_Ultra_Retail-pcgh.png

ArmA-3-GPUs-1080p-MSAA-pcgh.png

(yep, it's a bit older, you may add around +10% on the frames for the optimization)

Maybe he reaches the 150+fps on empty terrain when looking down, whcih doesn't really care, or the settings aren't maxed out.
