yuklee 0 Posted October 30, 2013 THIS IS MY OPINION AND IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME THEN DON'T POST HATEFUL REPLIES. THANK YOU! Hello! I was playing vanilla DayZ this morning and I was making my way up to the North West airfield and it was quite a boring trip, and it made me think, wouldn't it be awesome if there were random occurring events, such as; * A truck that moves around the middle of the map with AI bandits/soldiers inside, if they see you they might jump out of the truck and try find and kill you. Or if they find your camp they will try take it over. * A cargo plane that rarely comes around and drops supplies. * A massive swarm of zombies that move around the map, randomly. (I Believe Dean Hall is already going to implement this into SA?) * A Military camp heavily guarded by either AI Militia/bandits and if you kill all the bandits/militia you can use it as a very well fortified camp. I think this would also make people team up together more rather then just shooting each other on sight.Seems like it could be a tad difficult to implement all these but I think it would be pretty cool. :D :D
cywehner1234 582 Posted October 30, 2013 I would like these but I would they them to be Rare or Extremely rare.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted October 30, 2013 There will definitely never be AI other than the zombies in DayZ. Dean wants it to remain a 100% player driven experience.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 30, 2013 No. AI is stupid and Dean Hall has already stated multiple times that he wants events on the map to be player generated, not just random set pieces they can inject to "make fun." Not trying to be hateful. But seriously, the bots in Arma suck.
h3l1x 327 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) You don't need to have AI in order to have (dangerous) random events. There could be lightning storms on rainy days, falling trees/electricity poles on windy days, forest/urban fires on hot days, etc. Also poisonous snakes, wild dogs/foxes with rabies, packs of wolves, bears, you get the idea. PVE has so much potential. Edited October 30, 2013 by h3l1x
voddler (DayZ) 367 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I still don't understand why people find a non-human player less fun than a fully breathing player that you can communicate with other than a scripted AI that has to shoot you or do what it's programmed to do. This is the biggest reason I'm not playing Epoch. Edited October 30, 2013 by voddler
enforcer1975 1111 Posted October 30, 2013 I want a sack of rice falling over in China from time to time...
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted October 30, 2013 I kinda like the cargo plane idea. But maybe it crashes instead bringing ALL players in the area to it knowing its got cargo on board. Should create a giant deathmatch at the crash site imo.

Not trying to be hateful. But seriously, the bots in Arma suck.I personally see AI generated events being good because it just doesn't happen with players, people just stay on there own and shoot everyone on sight and it kinda ruins the game.. And with AI events, i think, it would encourage more people to team up to defeat the AI enemy in the game. Also, the AI soldiers in ArmA aren't that bad, the zombies on the overhand are terrible though. But I do see where you're coming from and yes it isn't an amazing idea, but i still think it would be pretty cool. This is the biggest reason I'm not playing Epoch.these events would happen rarely and not every two minutes..People don't really have conversations with other players any more, they just shoot whoever they see and nothing said in the process, and i just think these events may bring people together more. I think it would also make it harder to get up north to the NWAF, because what people do these days is just grab a bit of food and drink, pull out a hatchet and head up there with nothing to stop them apart from the rare player. SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted November 1, 2013 Have you played a server with "survivor" bots on it? They run off in strange directions, they don't fight players or zombies, they basically don't do anything. It's the worst. There's nothing less satisfying than thinking you see a player, only to shoot them and find out it was a stupid bot which wouldn't even react to you anyway. The whole point of the game is to drive natural human conflict. Adding human bots would only detract from player interaction, as it clearly doesn't add to it in mod servers currently. You want a "safe zone?" You should have to build one and enforce those rules yourself. Adding scripted events is really a cheap way to cop out of putting infrastructure in place for players to accomplish these things themselves. As Helix pointed out, we don't need AI for PvE events. Furthermore, the game is not complete. You act like the zombies are a final product, when clearly the standalone is improving them and turning them into a major threat.
cik 2 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) I dont play Vanilla anymore since it really doesn't have the breadth and depth of sand in the sandbox, but playing on an advanced server with a host of addons has what the OP has suggested already. DayZ Epoch is set in a future time after the Great Infection. Humanity is slowly returning to the wasteland, industrious survivors have begun to join together in small groups and rebuild society. Small camps of merchants have started to pop up to do business with survivors who collect goods from the wasted remnants of civilization. Wholesalers have landed on the shores offering imported goods to aid the rebuilding effort. Dynamic missions exist (Cargo Plane crash, Bandit Supply run to intercept, etc.) that the competitive and fortunate can accomplish, while infection still remain and rogue bandits still roam the countryside preying on unsuspecting survivors. Base-building, amonst other things, is one of the favorite features. Edited November 1, 2013 by Cik

This is the biggest reason I'm not playing Epoch. So you are not playing Epoch because you believe it has AI? Epoch doesn't have AI in it. Some servers, Epoch and Vanilla both, have AI on them but Epoch doesn't come with AI that is something the owner added in.
