mercules 1290 Posted October 24, 2013 So you think you can breach a door with a gun faster than reaching out and turning the handle? <_<
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) I'd like to be able to shoot them open for shock value. If you think there's someone inside you could shoot the door and charge in (with a shotgun) and there could also be a chance of injuring the other player if they're standing on the other side of the door. Technically though I'm not sure if it's possible because it would mean as assets the game would have to treat them differently and store their states. Korsbaek 1778 Posted October 24, 2013 I think it would just be a waste of ammo. It would be a nice feature, but I don't think it will be used much.
callsignBravo (DayZ) 323 Posted October 24, 2013 locked door? breach time! if someone is boarded up in a house you can't open the door so you would need to blow off the lock with a rifle or shotgun.
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 24, 2013 I like it would keep a flow to the zombie chase. Maybe kicking and shoulder barging doors for when you haven't got a gun.

Technically though I'm not sure if it's possible because it would mean as assets the game would have to treat them differently and store their states.Even an unlocked door could be blown off for effect. I would really like to see this. Also, why couldn't they treat it as a shield with X damage mitigation that also moves like a door? I know in Arma you can test to see if a door was damaged but I think it was still part of the house model so I don't think they were ever able to separate the two. If they could, when the guy outside shoots the game could easily tell if the guy in the house was in the line of fire, then just subtract X from the damage done and turn the entity's exist state to 0 and add some particle effects. They would probably have to add a hitpoint value to the house's model.cfg just for the door, though. Strange that they coded doors to detect damage but that they can take as much damage as the house itself so technically they are both destroyed at the same time. DemonGroover 8836 Posted October 25, 2013 You should be able to explode cars with a single shot as well since we are drifting into the domain of Hollywood.
SFRGaming 718 Posted October 25, 2013 Just to argue the realism side, you can't blow a door open with a gun.Sothere...Blow the door off the hinges? Not possible without breaching charges. One shot to the door's locking mechanism/bolt will definitely open it unless it his multiple licks or is barricaded. Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted October 25, 2013 Shooting the lock of a door doesn't work in real life. Not without a shotgun and a well-balanced kick.Mythbusters ruined this Hollywood trick.
Forgewolf 70 Posted October 25, 2013 I think we should be able to lock some doors to prevent people from getting inside.. And the only ways they can get inside are:#1: Shoot/Break window and crawl in.. Attracts zombies#2: Shoot the lock. Attracts zombies#3: Use a tool to open.. Hard to findI am for this idea.. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted October 25, 2013 You should be able to explode cars with a single shot as well since we are drifting into the domain of Hollywood.I thought a flimsy wooden door could be shot open with a shotgun which is why they're used for breaching? We need someone here who's tried it in real life to clear this up. Where's Steak when you need him?
Gwraspe 318 Posted October 25, 2013 I think we should be able to lock some doors to prevent people from getting inside.. And the only ways they can get inside are:no, no locking anything in my opinion - as far as im concerned, zombies ate all the keys to everything

Merrick362 (DayZ) 263 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) I'm just going to say that breaching a door with a rifle or pistol round would be extremely difficult at best. A real breaching round in a shotgun is a specialized type of round that is designed to obliterate the locking mechanism and stay inside the door so that it doesn't injure any occupants in the room. A rifle round is such a small projectile that it would likely punch straight through the door only causing minimal damage to the lock.A more practical solution IMO would be to have a breaching or 'Hooligan' kit. These usually come with a pry bar, a thumper, and bolt cutters.http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/attachments/emergency-preparedness/50261d1322332579-survival-kit-your-fj-hooligan.jpgThese are used to manually breach almost any door, be it inward or outward facing hinges, or windows. AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 25, 2013 I a slug/ pellets would make quick work of any lock.Maybe... An axe would make quick work of the door itself. Here's Johnny!
mercules 1290 Posted October 25, 2013 Shooting the lock doesn't break the door "Open" it breaks the lock so you can then force the door open with a small amount of force.
