beavis_5000 111 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I full moon night is ok every now and then but damn I miss those intense pitch black nights. I run around at night on a server and it might as well be day. Hearing zombies screaming all around you and not being able to see shit is awesome. Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted October 23, 2013 Ooh the nights when it's so dark that even when people try to turn brightness and gamma up nothing happens. Yes, I miss those.
thecoolestloseryouknow 38 Posted October 23, 2013 if the server lets you start with a flashlight it would be a good idea. otherwise the server will just empty because it is pretty much impossible to play unless you're in a city.

Diggydug (DayZ) 331 Posted October 23, 2013 Don't the public hive servers still have regular nights or am I mistaken?

boxman80 964 Posted October 23, 2013 Brings back fond memories - queuing half an hour or more to get onto one of 5 or 6 Say Z servers after work, by the time of getting online it's well after 8pm and getting dark , as the UK servers are running at GMT! Starting with no illumination equipment and running for miles in pitch black darkness! lol We have disabled Full-moon nights on our Epoch server to try and recapture that feeling of terror the night brings, however we do have the city lights system enabled so it kind of helps to guide players in the darkness. I personally love playing night time and having to rely on flares or chemlights!
dgeesio 1034 Posted October 23, 2013 all down to ranking of the server night = less people on server so most run 24/7 for ranking reasons. the night should be so you can still see not just jet black then more would play nighttime sessions.
Bludy 324 Posted October 23, 2013 i love playing at night..panicking when the flare expires..finding chemlights everywhere..the problem i think is that those servers are often completely empty..
h4yw1r3 64 Posted October 23, 2013 Great idea in a single player game, but it kills servers in multiplayer. I hate 24/7 daylight servers and will not play those. I'm good with full moon nights as long as there IS an actual night cycle and the server stays populated. I feel it's a good compromise.
mercules 1290 Posted October 23, 2013 I hate full moon nights. On my private server we introduced a player to DayZ and did so at night. Moon was about a quarter and was out from behind the clouds for about a 1/4 of our play time. We had to use chemlights, flares, weapons with flashlights and such. I really enjoyed playing that way again. With full moon nights most people just turn up the gamma and it's like black and white NVGs... I hate it.
rn_max 202 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I don't see why the original night cycle had to be meddled with in the first place. The shadows would lengthen towards sunset, the the light would dim to starlit twilight. The night proper would follow, fully darkening from about 2200 to 0200. The first signs of brightening would follow until 0400, followed by first light and the day cycle. The lunar cycle would vary over the month and weather conditions such as cloud were random. Why screw it up? The net result was that there was a mix of night time to suit everyone at one time or another ... that boring immersion thing ... where you're so absorbed in the environment it masks some of the more clumsy gamey aspects.. Public hive servers should exhibit consistency and exploit the immersive power of ArmA 2's environment as is. Besides, server time can also be set to move daylight to peak playing hours, so there is absolutely no reason to meddle with the night cycle. There are far more than enough meddlers running private hives to suit all other tastes. Oh and night time is definitely borked when it is often too bright for NVG's! geogeorgegeo@hotmail.co.uk 50 Posted October 23, 2013 DayZero has a real day night cycle although im not sure if they still have the lunar cycle. Often there are populated night time servers for DayZero too.
Aporis 422 Posted October 23, 2013 I'm pretty sure you won't be able to changes gamma and brightess as drastically as you could on arma. Also I'm fine with some full moon, or bright nights, I like nights where i can see atleast something maybe just 10 meters away but still something, with chemlights and other things i can see further. Thats nice and flashlights, or headlamps. headlamps would be nicer as you can where you are running.

The full moon nights really dont keep anymore people on the server. Just as many people quit out during night. It must be the people who are out purely for PvP tht quit at night. Cause anyone else would love the survival and creepy aspect of playing at night. Its not a good compromise imo because its so bright there might as well be no night. The fun of playing at night is totally gone. Edited October 23, 2013 by electricfuneral
Hetstaine 10852 Posted October 23, 2013 Non night servers suck, regardless of gamma exploit. People who only play day 24/7 are pussies :) It is amusing watching all the moaners and 'why you shoot me brah i had nufink' types log off as soon as night approaches. pussies.
Kraorr 6 Posted October 23, 2013 A new moon with only flares and chems to deal with the night.... aaaaah, I miss this creepy romance :D made the zombie's scariness go from 2/10 to 7/10!

Got a nice little pleasant "Auauaagh!" followed by frantic firing from my friend the other night. Apparently he wasn't aware of one of the zombies until it entered his blue glowstick's light range right in his face.

Kaffarov37 125 Posted October 24, 2013 Finding small splashes of light (charm lights) was a fun way to track players in the dark. Unless they have NVG :/

DayzForumer 284 Posted October 25, 2013 Sure, if you start with a CLIP-ON FLASHLIGHT. Not the one that bobs. up and down uncontrollably.
