I have turned!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So here's sorta a backstory of my play style.

When I first started, I strived to be a hero, help people, and make friends. Didn't last long, I'll tell you that.

I then turned to just being neutral. Not helping anyone, but instead stalking people, staying out of major cities, and doing as I wish on my own.

That all change when the fire nat- er I mean bandits attacked.

I've gotten sick of being killed by people who camp around in groups, or just kill everyone.

You know what they say, if you can't beat em, join em.

Sorta anyways. I joined a group of two other guys and we've been playing on Caribou, which by the way is one of the best maps I' ve played, but back to the story. We pretty much just take what we want and try to get what we need. The other guys sometimes KoS, which I sorta disagree about, but hey, to each their own. I try to just provide overwatch and shoot anyone who is an immediate threat and I know will shoot me anyways. I've killed plenty of people in the past, in self defense, in others defense, accident, or for a partial reason. The other day I shot my first bambi, unarmed, in a field after he spawned. I heard him already get shot at, while my group was stationed outside Fort Crassus, waiting for another to exfiltrate and regroup. I saw him running towards me, and I shot. He yelled through direct saying he was friendly, but he was a threat to the group, so down he went. He raged on side chat for a bit, but it didn't change anything.

I'm not sure what to feel now. I regret it quite a bit, but it was for a good reason. That kill earned me my bandit skin, and it looks alright. Do I continue this rampage, or cease shooting at people?

Catch ya on the flip side,

Me

i try to hero but it is hard, sometimes i kill but i always try to have a reason. I've only mindlessly killed people a few times and i frown upon those days as i was new to the game and wasn't skilled enough for talking my way out of a situation

And it goes on and on and on

Break the Chain

The people who don't KoS tend to not post about it. They don't complain, and you don't know they're there because they saw you when you didn't see them and they left you alone.

It's hard to imagine all the times you were seen and not shot. We only consider the times we were shot.

So how was this guy a threat if he was unarmed?

This. I wanna hear more about how this guy was actually a threat to you OR the group.

I'm not exactly proud of it, but it was either me or one of my partners with a DMR. I wasn't exactly sure he was unarmed until he was next to me, and I panicked. Karma got me back half an hour later when a guy mowed me down with an MK17 on full auto. Serves me right, and I won't KoS with no reason again hopefully. I didn't want to risk giving away our position, and it was easier that way. Too many variables to ponder in too little time.

Sorry. I'm not like my partners. They mowed down a guy in Oil Bay outside the barracks when he yelled he was friendly, and even though he was armed, I would've let him live if I were alone. Maybe even teamed. Didn't happen, he was dead before I even saw him.

Do whatever you find more fun. As Sharaya says, Be Authentic Never Jeopardize Individuality.

I see that. I don't want to be a bandit, someone who can't be trusted and is usually shot, but it's hard when everyone else shoots at you and gives you the mentality of everyone else trying to kill you. I try to subdue it, but it gets out, and when animals, people included, they go crazy and do whatever to survive. DayZ is a social experiment, isn't it?

There's more to DayZ than just trying to be a hero or a bandit.

Just play. Do you what YOU think is right or fun. If you're an ass and think it's hilarious/fun to shoot unarmed people, do it, because you will anyway.

As said above, not everyone kills on sight, but you don't notice that because they didn't kill you...

If you don't want to be a bandit, as you just said, then don't murder fresh spawns. If he says he's friendly, you tell him to stop. Then tell him what to do from there to avoid being killed.

Example: Stop!

(he stops)

Where are you going?

(he says where)

Okay well go on. Try anything fishy and you're dead.

At that point, it's all up to him and you can tell if he's a threat easily based on how his own choices. It's also nice to actually interact with people other than your immediate friends if you ask me.

As for your lack of willpower. Don't cave in if that's what pisses you off. "Oh my god everyone keeps killing me, it's so god damn annoying! Guess I better start doing the same!" What kind of logic is that?

The other day I had an M24 (found it in a fire station pre 1.8.0.3) and was running from Elektro to Solhinicity. I out of no where someone came thru some pine trees and I said bam and shot him. Simultaniously as I pressed down on the left mouse button while zoomed in I noticed he was unarmed and not just unarmed but doing the friendly dance. It was to late and I one shot killed him. Of course I apologized on side chat but im sure that didnt help dude I shot.

The point is its literally kill or be killed. If you know you can 100% get away with not killing someone then by all means let them go. Otherwise you really cant take chances.

Dont put yourself in positions where you have to take chances.
