My reaction for no vehicles

YlogWnp.gif

Better to think and balance them. I'm not a fan of vehicles in a game like this.

Hello there

It could be a placeholder for his climbing simulator...

Dont read too much into this. Organising things like publishing often happens way, way in advance.

Manage your expectations.

I think this advice may fall on deaf ears but your optimism is truly inspiring :)

What's up with SteamDB? I think they made the app private, guys.

This app has been deleted or is hidden to the public.

There is extremely limited to no information about this app.

We don't even have a name, hence why we are displaying SteamDB Unknown App "AppID".

I'm not happy to see the absence of vehicles in the Alpha, but I understand why it's necessary.

I want vehicle repairs to be more complex and in depth when they redo them. I'd love to see vehicles have real maintenance problems like dead batteries, bad starter motors, alternators, manifold gaskets, spark plugs or ignition coils, cracked hoses, bad belts, ect. On top of that it would be great to see fluid levels that are important to a car's function. You could pour water (or perhaps even urinate) into a radiator to keep an overheating car running. There could be an oil level which would go down very, very slowly, but over time would require replacement. Perhaps the presence of cracked hoses in a car could result in low power steering fluid or brake fluid. All of these parts and fluid levels would affect a vehicles overall performance dynamically.

Cars could sometimes have manuals which would explain symptoms of a vehicle and common problems that could cause it. If they made the system nuanced and difficult enough, it could require some real skill to actually repair a car effectively. I'd also like to see a function similar to the "study Body" feature which would have to be used on the hood of a vehicle to examine it and find out what might be wrong with it, instead of just having that information given to you as soon as you get in. The vehicle hud should only give you things like fuel level, temperature, oil pressure, and engine warning lights.

From Reddit:

I don't like to get peoples hopes up, but is it possible they've finally out in a build to Valve for the submission process? I don't want to hype, and if I am wrong I apologize for perhaps leading people on, but I thought you ought to know.

Fingers crossed, either way it'll be soon.''

For Bohemia it's necessary to make cuts to get anywhere.

You have exceedingly high hopes.

On what planet could any of that be possible when its necessary for them to skip vehicle development just to meet a 2 year deadline on a project that some would argue was almost finished to begin with. They have no base for vehicles in their server framework going into the "alpha" which means they'll have to start from scratch when they begin working on them. That's not a good thing in this context. Starting from scratch on something important may be a good thing but starting from scratch after 2 years is embarrassing.

Bohemia also has a poor record with bugs and patches. They always develop slow and they've never been able to add content onto something without breaking something else in the process. Long story short, Bohemia isn't, doesn't, and never will do it right, nor will you ever see anything in that list of yours in the game.

gummy, you're quite the fool if you think I actually expect all that stuff right away, if ever. I'm describing some ideal gameplay mechanics that the devs should shoot for. There's no reason to shoot down future goals just because you think you know everything about game development and BI, which apparently you don't. DayZ made Bi booku bucks on sales of Arma 2, not to mention all the sales revenue they just got from Arma 3. They have some development cash to go around. Just look at what they've done with the engine so far. The only reason they haven't attempted certain things is because they chose not to. They aren't just a bunch of fucking hobos sitting around in an abandoned warehouse with laptops they bought at goodwill like "OKAY GUYUZ LETS MAEK GAMEZ NOW LOLZ."

They are going to continue developing the game. Rocket said himself, they aren't putting vehicles in until they've been done right. They've already discussed vehicles having batteries and other features. It's not impossible. Just because you think it is, doesn't make it true. They just need time to develop the game into the product it is aiming to be. This project is fundamentally a ground-up experiment. That being said, despite all it's flaws, it has a great core and actually the Vr engine can be quite flexible. If you think it's so limited, why don't you just look at armaholic. If this game was so utterly shit to begin with and it was impossible to make new features, then how could mods like Overwatch and Epoch exist, not to mention other great mods like A.C.E? The engine is quite flexible and I think perfectly capable, given time and a focused direction. The only reason vehicles in Arma aren't treated that way now is because they were not designed from the bottom up as a survival game.

Funny thing i noticed coming back to the forums

So a couple of days ago steam apps give's us the hype we all needed. Dayz early acsess has gone into review process, here is rockets exiting response.

Amazing how quickly the internet picks up on things isn't it And as I’d stated on my twitter when I announced my break from social media/updates, we are on the final lap. Part of the final process involves the actual administration of the release, which is actually surprisingly complex and time-consuming.” “So, to confirm, there is no release date announcement and we’re 100 percent focused on getting the alpha out the door

we all keep asking when "release" is coming, funny thing is...we are not talking about the games full release here. we all want to know when the alpha is open to us all to play!

while rocket is responding to the actual release of the game, not the when alpha is available to play!

100 percent focused on getting the alpha out the door we are on the final lap. Part of the final process

surprisingly complex and time-consuming " not meaning it will take a-while" he means the quite 100% focus he is having is taking up all he's time and hours in the day"

i bet next few days for alpha

What do you think the SA is and is going to be?

1. You are off on the "Two Year Deadline." Last year they had talked about releasing DayZ as a stand alone and in doing so meant packaging the mod into a bundle with all the ARMA II code. At some point they changed the focus of that and instead decided that as along as it was going to be independent of ARMA II they might as well fix a bunch of things that bother them and us. User interface, animations, zombie pathing, scripts/cheats and such. These were all limitations from ARMA II. From that point it has been about a year of work so for them to have anything playable in that time, even minus vehicles, would be really good solid work.

2. They are starting the vehicles from scratch because ARMA II vehicles are a bit hashed. They work "well enough" but again this is one of those areas they think they can improve upon. So they are.

3. They are adding a lot of systems to the game, ones that specifically deal with the player and their avatar. New gear systems, weapon attachments, medical systems, animations, new actions, and such. That is the focus, not vehicles. Vehicles are something nice but not needed for the DayZ experience. They are something that can wait. Heck, most of us playing Vanilla don't see a working vehicle except passing us on the the road while we slip into the trees and debate if we will need to shoot it or not.

You mean all this time there was vehicles? On a serious note, you don't find vehicles in Vanilla servers, and if you do, they don't work.

I think all these servers with +vehicles, self bloodbags, mods like Epoch, etc., have spoiled these kids rotten. They don't know what it's like to actually work for gear and survival.

Be a man, play Vanilla. Stop worrying about cars in a game where cars were supposed to be a huge rarity already.

Im with you completely Esolu...I love the game as it was in vanilla form. I don't like big weapons and easy travel and things that make the game basically the opposite of what it was about.

Do you remember what drew you to the game in the original days? I remember reading about it, about seeing videos on YouTube, about how hard it was to survive a few minutes to a few hours, if you were good.

Now people can survive (like my previous character) for over a year if you know the ropes. This game was designed for people to barely be able to survive. To keep you on your toes, to have no advantage ever, or if you did it was quickly taken away by a greedy bandit who wants what you've worked so hard for.

The SA will hopefully go back to that a bit, with more stability and complex game play.

But I started playing Epoch (my first mod other than vanilla itself since DayZ came out) a few days ago. Tonight was my first hour or two in it. I so far have noticed nothing different but the huge well built base (that I cannot break into lol). But the reason I joined an Epoch server was to do something different, for now. I will gladly give up the easy ways of DayZ and start all over for the SA. But I like vehicles because 1. Im a car guy. I just love the ownership and maintenance, the quick drives, loot, drive off kind of feeling. and 2. because its (supposed to be) a rare perk in the game and when you get one you feel empowered. Everyone wants what you now have and will literally kill for it.

But when hordes are roaming the country side and not just towns anymore, vehicles will be even more important. You'll have to watch your back in the woods and at night when you could normally at least travel by foot unharmed until you got close to a town.

I just hope its as fun as the initial DayZ and we all know it was bugged to hell. But I still enjoyed the piss out of it at first. I came back after a long stint of no DayZ and am so confused with allllllllll the damn mods available. Ive yet to look into any other than Epoch. And probably wont.
