creeperbane 26 Posted October 10, 2013 For some time I've been worried about the standalone's muzzle flashes... That M4 must be firing 30mm...I'm sure they will fix it :)
harley001 315 Posted October 10, 2013 The way ammo is made is specifically made to reduce flash without anything on the barrel to help. Military grade ammo has a muzzle-flash visible (with a .308) at 200 meters. a pistol has virtually none as far as I know. it also is almost too short to be able to see it, so unless your firing an automatic at closer than 150 meters than its very hard to spot.True. But still a lot of the civi weapons in the game (enfeild, hunting rifle, etc) have a very small muzzle flash. Maybe I am just nit picking.
OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) I totally agree with the visible breath idea. I'd imagine (given its location) that Chernarus is quite cold, particularly at night time. That being said, you'd have to have eyes like a hawk to actually be able to pinpoint something like this in the daytime. At night time, it'd be almost impossible without a full moon to light up the landscape. I'm afraid that your idea doesn't hold much of a realistic value. Unless you breathe like Godzilla. I'd say it'd be realistic at up to maybe 70-80m at most. Up close however, at 20-30m when hunting a possible ghillied camper on a bright night, it would be completely possible to find them using this method... so it's not a completely useless idea. I support this idea 100% and the immersion it would bring. Edited October 10, 2013 by OfficerRaymond
applejaxc 2500 Posted October 10, 2013 Just downloaded that pack...sounds rly good :D It makes the game a lot more fun.A word of the wise, disable the "FALL" mod; basically, whenever you get shot/shoot someone without killing someone, it makes them fall down. I know that's realistic, but it's REALLY annoying if a machinegunner opens fire on you. You fall to prone, stand up after a 10 second or so timeout, and then fall down again, and that happens 2 more times before you finally die.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted October 11, 2013 You mean like the drop animation of the mod even if you are already dead. Then after the animation the actual die animation plays?
Korsbaek 1778 Posted October 11, 2013 It's not depending on daytime. It's depending on temperature, humidity and altitude. When it's night and a moon is shining you might have a bigger chance to see it since the water particles might reflect the light. Even then i don't think that you will be able to spot a person from the typical DayZ shooting distance, the vapor dispersal would be too fast. That's not what i meant. I know how this fog thing is made. I was just not sure if you were able to see it in the dark.
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 11, 2013 Cos no .50s = no sniping from 1000m, unrealistically low damage :( In any case, if you can see someone's breath, you can also see their face, so unless these clouds are people-sized it won't help much. Agree with Katana - good idea for adding atmosphere to the in-game world, but I don't see a "tactical" use for it.On a frosty morning down south in NZ I find that if you exhale properly (much like a sniper would be doing to steady themselfs) you can easily make a person sized cloud. If you're puffing just after a good jog you can easily get the same results.I think I would also like frosty morning.Grass should get an icy frost tinge over it and there should be a good bit of fog, especially in depressions/ valleys.Rolling fogs and frosts would both be great weather features IMO. Lying on the ground just after rain should make your clothes damp, increasing the chance of hypothermia untill it evaporates.Lying on the frosty ground shouldn't make you wet but rather just sap your warmth. These features, weather, exposure to ground conditions, and visible breath should IMO greatly reduce the effectiveness of sniping without adding anything to hindering the experience too much by not adding silly half minute puffing after holding breath COD style, or Battlefield super high beam sniper scope flashlight. You wanna snipe? Pick a good day, but make sure the grounds dry.
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 11, 2013 I'm sure they will fix it :)They said they will change it I'm pretty sure. But if you capture a muzzle flash at the right moment expect to see that sort of size, it ain't there long enough for us to see it without high speed cameras, but it's there. The muzzle flashes will be similar but most likely you won't even notice that size flash.I personally like the big bright muzzle flashes for night combat aswell. In the darkness you can only make out faint shapes, untill somebody fires and you get a low down on their location, rewarding the patient and punishing the ones that seek to fire wildly at a moving shadow they can't keep track of before they have a shot. The ones smart enough to use flares get rewarded too.Night combat is soo underdone, people don't even attempt unless they have NVGs. enforcer1975 1111 Posted October 11, 2013 You wanna snipe? Pick a good day, but make sure the grounds dry. But...but...snipers are trained to shoot under every condition. They even made a sniper shoot a target after beeing covered in ice for a couple of minutes. They even measured his core temperature and heartbeat. So in think an elite supermarine sniper could even bury himself into an ant hill and completely ignore those nasty insects. He might even have fun if he is M. Dekkymane 145 Posted October 11, 2013 1+ HEINZ. I don't see people using it as camper spotting but it'll definitely add immersion ;)
