Things that will Make or Break Standalone (Opinions)

Recommended Posts

Make:

Less firearms ... far less firearms.

Want to re-focus back to survival?  Take away the means to stage gunfight at the Cherno Corral.  This is the apocalypse, most of the ammo would have been expended in a futile attempt to stop the hordes of infected, so it's back to the dark ages duking it out with table legs and kitchen knives.  Now they'll have to get up close and personal to deliver violence, deliberate rather than convenient.

Harsh rarity levels for military weapons and equipment, with hard set numeric limits rather than chance-to-spawn, otherwise players will loot farm until they get what they want.

Valuable gear should be a reward for scavenging or robbery, not de-facto confetti sprinkled around.

Break:

Leaving ArmA 2's full arsenal in play, epic fail.

BREAK:

Head Shot Z's: NO. These are Infected Humans who've gone insane, not the living dead. I'm all for speedy and tough zombies, but headshot Z's? No. Perhaps make them optional whe you make a server.

-ridiculous snip-

True, but they still aren't going to die merely from being shot a few times. Look at World War Z as an example. They are 'infected' humans that don't just die from a few shots to the body. If zombies are to be scary in the Standalone, they need to be hard to put down unless you are efficient with a firearm.

I love the aggressive pvp.

It makes the world a more dangerous place.

Unfortunately its the only thing that makes the world a dangerous place.

I like post and agree 90% what you saying :beans:

but please remember is online multiplayer game and pvP is maximum important for success for this game ;)

pvP is for me #1 priority, game need more way for kill, torture and catch player like prisoner :D

is fear of other player make dayz game that we love, ignore pvP and dayz become carebear heaven/gamer hell :o

Your opinion of the game is a product of what DayZ has become. PvP is number one priority for you because you can spawn in an go find a good weapon in 10 minutes. This is one of the huge downfalls in what DayZ is now.

DayZ is supposed to be a Surivival, Horror game not a competitve shooter.

Of course some PvP should always be included but the extint of PvP that goes on now is just out of hand. ANd honestly its players with your perspective combined with the current loot system that are ruining this game for most.

If Day Z was the same way it was when I first started playing your number one priority would be to find an empty bottle or can to throw so you could get in somewhere to hopefully find a can of pop, food or into a barracks and hope to dear good there was a decent gun in there with a clip.

And by decent gun a mean something like a naked M16 or AK. These dayz these guns arent even considered good because guns like M4A1 CCO,s and etc are everwhere.

Not to mention no self blood bag so when you do try to go in somewhere to get food, drink or gun and you f up and get slapped around by a few zombies these same players your trying to PvP are the same ones you would be in side chat begging to help you out with a blood transfusion.

  • Trolls

Trolls are a part of every game and nothing will ever change that. We just have to live with it. However, standalone needs to be different. It's time for us serious gamers to take back our games from these morons, starting with DayZ. It isn't about what the devs can do, but what we as a community can do. Refuse to watch DayZ troll videos. Don't give these shit-nuggets any reason to make more retarded videos, and eventually they'll move back to CoD.

I about made a thread about how DayZ has become a trolls dream land ie lure people in to kill them, friend people only to shoot them in the back of the head and etc. The same thing is happening in other games. imo its getting to the point where the larger portion of the gaming community have the troll mentality and I think games like DayZ and even CoD are where the competitve/serious gamers run head on into the troll type player who is ruining online gaming. So these games are the frontlines where you can see this shift in gaming.

The bad thing is, players with a troll like mentality are so previlant now that devs are making games that cater to this mentality. The video game community is going down hill and its been steam rolling in that direction for at least the past 2-3 years.

Ive about made threads on this on a few forums but didnt feel like arguing with trolls.

Make:

Crisp, colorful, detailed graphics that run good but don't provide advantages for players on lower settings.

Tone down blur of post process, or force bloom and HDR

High poly hands and bearable weapon holding animations(I hate everyone who doesn't admit that the hands in ArmA 2 are terrible)

Extensive crafting that pertains to every loot able item within the game world

Stick with Chernarus and the Armaverse with story, maybe connect the ArmA 2 campaign through clever easter eggs

Less military bases and more residential loot

Make all guns something to be cherished and used sparingly

Make melee common and introduce Dead island-esque melee mechanics

Break:

Force everyone to play 1st person only

Shitty graphics

Postpone addition of cars and boats for elongated time

Remove Utes from the sea

Make guns and food a commodity as it is now

Focus on less variety of weapons

Remove the AKM

  • Lack of Vehicle Variety

The standalone needs cars. Lots of them. Don't get all "But... but...but... OfficerWaymon, I don't wike cars. Too many cars will make a baad game" or "Fuck you, go back to your 1,000,000 vehicle servers you fucking noob". Fact of the matter is that Chernarus is a LARGE place with PAVED ROADS. They have the whole nine yards with road signs, speed limits, stop signs, and road lines. The population of Chernarus is quite high in Arma II campaign. I'm not sure how high, but it has to be in the tens of thousands. How did they get where they were going? Walking? No. They had cars. Lots of them. Depending on how far into the apocalypse standalone takes place... most of these cars will be loot-able wrecks. But IMO with the new size of the map and 150 player servers... there should be at least 500-600 vehicles that are able to be fixed. I also believe that cars in standalone should be harder to fix, parts should be rarer, and some could even require keys. These cars need to be different. SUV's, Trucks, Cars, ATV's, Utility Vehicles, Golf Carts... With different models. Boats are also a necessity, and they need to go FASTER.

One more thing:

No aerial vehicles. PERIOD

Yeah. I said it.

  • Child Zombies

Give us what we want dev team. Was Chernarus an adult utopia where nobody was allowed to procreate? COME ON! We want children zombies! Before I'm called a sadistic bastard, no, I don't have anything against kids. But realism begs for this one thing. If there is EVER pooping in Standalone and children zombies aren't put in the game..........................................................................I will find you rocket.

I'm sure there are some legal barriers that apply to this one.

I'm sure there are some legal barriers that apply to this one.

One of the CoD games had terrorists massacre an airport. Scarface: The world is yours main focus was cocaine and drug dealing. GTA games 'promotes' extreme violence, theft, murder, and violates tons of laws.

Sure, there would probably be controversy over it, no doubt. Legal problems? Doubtful.

It is always the young, old and infirm that are at high risk when an epidemic sweeps across.

MAKE:

Any form of basebuilding, underground, above ground, modular, i dont care. Trying to find a nice set of trees to make an ATTEMPT to hide my stuff for atleast 1 hour before some lucky bastard flies over in a heli and sees it is getting VERY old.

New reload animations for EACH INDIVIDUAL GUN!

Comepletely redone sounds, weapon models, and vehicles.

Redone stealth system that uses the actual Zed's eyes and the direction it's facing. (kinda like skyrim but not as overpowered :P)

More STABLE (notice I said STABLE) offroad vehicles such as a UTV, buggy, sandrail, etc..

BREAK:

Vehicles similar to what is currently in the mod. (The vehicles we have now are unrealistic and the guy who designed them needs to be punished > :(  )

Same sounds and/or models from ARMA II

Donator Perks

Death Messages (ex. "[1337] LeGiTfOx has been killed by Bob at 259.83m"

The same old m16/m4 reload animation *cringe*

Pristine vehicles that dont belong (ex. the SUV)

The action bar being like WarZ (I have only seen it in the videos Dean has put out. I kinda like the idea but if it is anything like what WarZ has (yes I did play WarZ to get a review on it) then SA is a no-go for me)

These are my opinions :P

You mean the action bar like Minecraft? which Rocket said is taking a lot of inspiration from?

Has nothing to do with WarZ.

Something that can make the SA is fluid avatar movements.

My avatar dude can run 5 min miles all day but cant smoothly jump up from prone to take off running or vice versa. And hes a track start but cant smoothly hurdle small barriers.

Also smoother melee abilities.

I don't like forcing play-styles on people, and try to avoid it... However, I WILL force what DayZ was originally meant to be on people, and that is a zombie survival game.

I will happily force play-styles on people... we don't want Farmville influencing how something like DayZ plays, for example. We don't want people to get ammo from a Candycrush mini-game in DayZ. We don't want DukeNukem quips when you shoot another player or zombie. We don't want to play DayZ on a Battlefield 3 map. All those things are play-styles.

No, those really aren't play styles. Lol. Those are elements and content of a game.

I disagree. PvP doesn't need to be such a huge focus in the Standalone. 99% of people have a "lets kill everything" mentality and don't care about survival, that is why the mod is in the state it's in. We need to move from this mentality to a survival one. I don't like forcing play-styles on people, and try to avoid it... However, I WILL force what DayZ was originally meant to be on people, and that is a zombie survival game. We aren't going to go any farther than just a game that is looked at as an attempt at a standalone survival simulator that is laughed at as a joke on forums everywhere if we continue down this massive PvP lined road. Whether people like to admit it or not )probably gonna get shit for this) but that is where the mod is at right now. It's basically Wasteland with aggressive melee NPCs is what it is. If Standalone doesn't change that, it'll turn into the same thing as the mod, an inside joke.

I agree with your points too.

Hackers will always be present in gaming, particularly PC gaming where it's so easy to access debugs and commands. What will be crucial is a good anti-hack program and devs making the game hard to modify.

I just don't understand the, SURVIVAL aspect? I mean, is it that hard to get a hatchet, a hunting knife and a box of matches to survive? I don't understand the no PvP servers, zombies are not a threat. Spawn in, I get geared up. ok. Now? help other players do the same? 1-> Not fun; 2-> Everyone can get geared up easily.

Anyways, WHY DO WE PEOPLE PVP?

For me it is really easy.

1-> Competitiveness, no need to specify, do I?;

2-> Loot (this one might get fixed in the SA);

3-> JOY OF KILLING A PLAYER AND IMAGINATING HOW THEY ARE RAGING AT THE SCREEN/CHAT! Killing a player in bf3 is like kicking a stone. Killing a player in DayZ, where you know they might have spent days getting their equipment and working on their character and you just *@!% em up. That feeling is what made me love dayz nearly 2 years ago. Still playing it today btw.

1-> Because, killing zombies doesn't make you a name and they are not a threat EXCEPT in PvP situations where they might give away your position and be a constant nuisance while you are shooting, sure they might knock you down right?

2-> What can you get from a zombie? an empty tin can? and this one is inevitable, can't be fixed, musn't be fixed.

3-> Zombies, well they aren't fun to kill. BAM! (0.002L blood on the screen) BAM! the zombie is dead but thanks to the lag he is still "attacking" you, BAM! the greatest animation ever...

BTW don't get me wrong I completely disagree on what the private hives are doing like that retarded "players within 2500 meters" man WTF? Vanilla, Origins, conservative mods, or DEATH, and please 1st person...

SO you make harder zombies!! that won't stop me from PvPing but then that "survival" aspect would be increased.

SO you make loot scarcier! More reasons to kill a player for a can of beans or the spare magazine they have, right? At least from the way I engage my enemies, It would be well worth it, maybe for some players that use more ammunition isn't worth it.

SO you implement item degradation on bullet impact! THIS will encourage robbing and headshots for obvious reasons... Good decision, kills will have the deserved reward based on player skill (if they are able to score a headshot, gz then) and robbing will make its first step into the game.

-snip-

Your entire mentality is that of an honest to god troll. Seriously. You shouldn't be worried about 'making a name' for yourself by killing people. That's just arrogance, plain and simple. Killing people for the plain and simple fact of making them mad makes you a troll, plain and simple. Sure there's a joy you get from winning a hard fought firefight, but taking pride in senselessly killing anyone and everyone is the exact reason that the game has taken such a sharp decline.

You're part of the group that will break standalone when it comes out, if you're allowed to. Here's hoping the devs crank up the difficulty so high, that you won't know what hit you. Arma II is NOT DayZ. DayZ MOD is not DayZ anymore either. People have gotten into such a rhythm with what they do, that's it's too easy to be called DayZ anymore. I have a strong hope and feeling that SA will in fact change that.

Part of me disagrees. Sure 'making a name' or feeling good about killing a player in game may be weird to you, and even to me, but if this guy wants to play like that then that's fine and his decision.

I hope SA even in the early stages has features which set it apart from the Mod. Because after playing the Mod for a while once people have learnt how to handle the zoms, survive and repair vehicles PVP is the next logical step for many. I have a feeling that minor tweaks and graphics aside this feeling may be carried over to SA quicker than we would like with people killing on sight in the early days of the alpha.

I can't shake that feeling and hope that the SA is exciting enough and has enough in it to encourage us to work together.
