Standalone Graphics

Recommended Posts

We all know 1 huge problem in DayZ is people exploit the graphic system to gain an advantage over other player. Will this be confronted in standalone and how will it be confronted? Here's a quick video for those who don't know what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk8_t9SksBw

I don't really consider graphics settings that are available to everyone to be exploits TBH. It's common knowledge that (at least some) lower graphics settings usually provide better visibility in pretty much every game ever.

Anyway, nothing has been confirmed yet. They may consider locking things like object detail server side, but that wouldn't really be fair to players with low spec systems that would benefit from the lower graphics settings.

I heard that there will be a grass system that keeps it at distance so people can actually hide without grass disappearing on them.

But, that's just what I've heard.

As long as it runs minimum of 30-40 FPS, I'll crank it as far up as possible. I don't want it dropping into the mid and low twenties as it does in the mod. Plus, judging from the screenshots, it's looking better than ArmA 3(lighting wise). I want good graphics AND good gameplay, I don't deserve to compromise.

Depends on your system...

I heard about this "issues" in a video. Maybe it was on the dev blog. I believe there will be some graphics adjustments possible, but not to the extend it was/is. Can't remember 100% though.

I just want to see if Rocket is gonna lock certain settings since at E3, they were using a semi crap PC and were getting 50 frames. It was most likely on low tho ;)  I shouldnt have a problem running AS LONG AS they balance out CPU and GPU usage. ARMA II was waaaaay too cpu intensive. I built a new rig for SA and a few other games and it runs a i5 cpu clocked at 4.2 Ghz and a gigabyte windforce gtx 770 overclock gpu, so as long as they balance out CPU and GPU usage, I don't think I'll have any problems.

I believe the "network bubble" will also help a great deal with performance.

An overclocked i5 and 770 will smash the mod let alone SA.

Chances are frame rate is still going to plummet in towns.

Myself, I wanna see how bad the desync will be.

You don't understand how moist that would make me. You just don't.

Hello there

Guys and girls.

Dont forget to take anything you have "heard" with a massive tanker of salt. Only believe info that has been released officially and even that may be subject to change.

Has there even been a release date set for this yet? Lost interest a while ago now so don't really care about graphics options,  rougha release date however that would be good.Is it going to make it this year?

I think everyone will agree that performance and equal playing field takes precedence over eye candy. Some very basic shadows and grass to give some sort of coverage for everyone would be great. But if this affects performance too much, than I'd rather have cheap graphics with 50 minimum fps.

Huh.......These young un's. They think 20 FPS is orrible'? why, I only get 6 FPS in Elektro/Cherno and 16 FPS elsewhere. By my standards, 20 FPS Is more than good.

If grass was a problem with keeping ourselves hidden, why not get rid of them altogether?

Simply because it's an intended feature doesn't mean it's -not- a huge problem. Regardless of whether everyone has access to it, or if the developers intended for it to work as such, the fact of the matter is that you can choose what you see and you can gain an advantage (that is outside of the realm of your own sensory faculties) that isn't reasonable.

Graphics settings providing advantages against those whose only crime is wanting a better looking game is simply silly to me. If you can run it at full settings, that's great. If not, there should be options available to you. But those options shouldn't go so far as to offer you an advantage on either end.

It's a relatively undiscussed problem, which happens to affect daily gameplay. In my opinion, it needs to be worked on heavily. I'd even suggest that they wait until they've fixed it to release alpha, or have some significant headway so that it can be rolled out shortly thereafter. Things like ATOC standardization need to be put into effect, that would be my main suggestion. Just because the quality of what you're seeing is diminished doesn't mean that the physical area on the screen which that object is supposed to occupy at full ATOC has to diminish.

I also want to add on to something I found on the Tumblr website. There's tons of info.

  Quote

I want to confirm the following:

  • Most settings will be forced server-side, such as gameplay and graphical settings (view distance, shadow distance, etc…). The exact nature of this and specific settings is very much subject to change, but this will be a significant departure from how it is currently with the mod.
