[Solved]People in my server

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently ( yesterday ) put together an 1.8 dayz server, didn't forward the server because I like to play on my own without the pvp part.

BUT: Somebody joined my server from Russia...

zombie: I am russia i dont understand english :(

Could anybody tell me how this is possible? Haven't forwarded anything

Don't rightly know much about running servers and all that, but I would think that your server would show up on server lists regardless.  If you want it to be completely private you should probably put a password on it.

Just did that, this isn't the first time that it is happening -.-

But it is just really weird that this is possible without open ports

If you passworded it other than using admin panel and restarted server it probably didnt save the password

Arma is designed to allow others to join your private server easily, you dont need to port forward the IP. so if you don't want anyone to join you have to use a password, this is normal.

Wait a second, are you talking about a private server in your LAN? If you are using a standard setup (LAN behind a router) it can not be possible from a technical standpoint that someone joins your server if you have not forwarded anything. Your PC has a route to your router (standardgateway) but not vice versa.

This would only be possible if you have a severe security problem in your network.

If you are talking about a hosted server or something else please ignore my post ;)

No, this is indeed on LAN, running the server on my laptop same as the game.

Port 2302 is closed on xx.xxx.xxx.xxx

So I don't know where this is coming from, I don't have anything forwarded on the router in this range.

The same thing happened at my school once, could have been another student though, and this isn't the first time: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/134265-private-hive-another-player/

Same shit happened to me a week ago, while running a server with private hive on my desktop. Till that time i was perfectly sure that my LAN behind a router's firewall is reasonably safe. Then dude named "dexter x" joined my server, though he was immediately kicked by BE for wrong id or smth..

Scanning my outward ip from interwebs shows no results though.. Can anyone shed some light on it ?

Clearly you are not the only one ;)

When you create a multiplayer game just in arma you get to choose between LAN or Internet, if you choose internet theres no need to manually forward anything, your game automatically goes up on the server list and people can just join.

I had a dayz test server running a while ago off my own computer using DayZControlCenter and it automatically set it up to allow an internet connection, My crappy router doesn't even have an option to forward ports and it still works, Seems to me thats all thats happening here.

Theres most likely a way to set it up as LAN, but the easy way is to just put a password on there.

Never found anything about lan / internet there.

Thats kinda my point, when you set up a dayz server you dont get the option, it automatically sets up as internet.

And funny thing is, I cannot see my server among the others on internet tab, it's only on LAN tab.

Not all games require you to forward ports.

And not all router configurations are as strict as others. (So again, no forwarding needed.)

That's because you're on the LAN so it's there by default. Punch in the IP and it'll show on the internet tab for you. Not all servers show up for everyone on a search.
