What happened to good ol' DayZ?

Recommended Posts

Everytime i log on now.. it's no longer survive, it's kill everyone you can like its a deathmatch, there is no advantages to be friendly.. so why would you be?

I remember playing dayz when it was friendly, survival based.. going through the forests in the pitch black with your car trying to setup a camp that wouldn't be instantly found by a retarded group of people with 1 of the 30+ helis on the server.

My 2cents about what dayz has turned into, would love an older version of dayz bugfixed to play on.. everything would be sooo much diffrent

If you want a decent DayZ experience check out DayZero, there are also a few vanilla servers kicking around.

Don't worry, all the kiddies are going to get a surprise when the standalone comes and they don't get everything handed to them on a silver platter.

Edit: And keep VERY far away from the pile of crap that is Epoch.

I have played dayzero and played on zeds.nu for a LONG time, but there is just something missing from what used to be DayZ... there needs to be shit that happens when you randomly shoot someone not that you get free gear - and a cool ass looking skin

The Good Old Dayz has never left,

It has just been re-born

The standalone will be better!

Even a downgrade wouldn't fix anything, it's the community, not the mod.

There are still places out there where people aren't after instant loots for that PvP deathmatch they love so much.

Unfortunately server owners are catering for the larger population which means they tend to cater for the lowest common denominator.. all the little kids that will donate for guns and bases etc.

The standalone will definitely be what you are looking for, but for the mod you're just going to have to look - I'm not playing at the moment so I'm not sure exactly what vanilla servers exist - I know they definitely exist though, hopefully someone can recommend you something a bit more specific.

The community has went way downhill, it happens to every game when it becomes popular - people join and pretty much try to force the game to fit the same easy-peasy formula as every other game.

I still meet a bunch of friendly players in vanilla servers. Good 'ol DayZ is still there if you have the patience. Sure most players you meet are psychos... but take a walk in the real world and tell me who you meet. One of the coolest things about DayZ is it really is what you make it. If you get upset about being killed then in the long run it will weigh heavy on you what the state of the game is. If you just say oh well and keep looking for friendlies, you will find them. The trouble is figuring out what to do once you group up.

Enjoying this game takes a large amount of creativity and patience. If you find that you are no longer enjoying it, ask yourself if you are patient and/or creative enough, and how you could improve in both areas. Meeting up with friendlies wouldn't be exciting if it was easy.

I have come to like it how it is.

DayZero has got to be the better mod for DayZ. The sounds are revamped and everything is improved overall, really. Once on BMRF.me US2, I was in an Elektro fire station, badly wounded and on the top floor, eating to regain some health. All of a sudden I hear someone in direct communication say, "Hey guy in the fire station, you friendly?" I felt more relieved than anything, as I thought I had seen or heard a player earlier. I let him know I was friendly as long as he did not come up to the top and that he could help himself to the loot below. He says that he is low on blood as well, and soon died from zombies. I ran down to loot his body, but the fact that he had been the first one to initiate conversation kept me at bay. While on his death screen he told me I could take anything, but I told him that I would only take a couple of cans of food and did. After leaving Elektro, I felt much better knowing that there are still nice people in the game.

One unique quality that BMRF.me had was a strict no-complaining policy as well as first person only. The fact that you seem to have a lower blood value in DayZero already makes players more wary, but when you are restricted to only a 70 degree field of vision, you are on high alert most of the time. Third person really can encourage PvP - you have more of a chance of spotting people as well as less immersion, which would allow zombies not to bother you as much henceforth breaking a certain bond between survivors.

I definitely think that DayZero is the place to go for real DayZ now - normal DayZ and other mods are just a bit too easy which allows the immature players to figure things out a bit quicker.

Why do people like Dayzero if its PvP and pay to win?

What exactly do you mean by pay to win? I've never encountered anything unfair in the servers that involved paying. Also, PvP isn't a problem; it's a game mechanic. If you don't want PvP, you're essentially denying one of the biggest aspects of DayZ and should go to something like L4D.

All the Dayzero servers i find with Dayzcommander are all ran by the same people. I went to their website to try to get "whitelisted" and seen the accept donation in return for starting loadouts.

And there is a difference between a PvP server and a regular server. On a PvP server it is accepted by everyone that everyone KoS.

Starting loadouts most definitely aren't a problem. I never donate money to servers (because I've already paid for the game, ya know?) but I can easily get ahold of a decent weapon. The people that have starting loadouts generally have them because they aren't good enough to find the guns they bought. Henceforth, it should be easy to take them out. I accept these people as a challenge. :}

I don't know what server you're talking about exactly, but I know the server I played on (BMRF.me US2) didn't say anything about PvP IIRC. To be clear, I used the DayZero launcher to launch the server. And I can also say that based off my experience not everyone is a KoS'er.

Starting load outs are a problem when u kill someone in Elektro, they pick to spawn in elektro, run a few yards and snipe you with their DMR (CoD anyone?). Ans when people start with full loadouts there is no reason to play the game besides kill people (CoD anyone?).

To me this is a huge problem (P2W). If someone starts off fully loaded then they just go straight and start killing people, what else are the gonna do. Might as well be another CoD or BF3. Any P2W server ive been on is predominately PvP, extreme PvP at that. There is already enough PvP no need to make more of a reason for it.

Not only that but we pick our spawns now, so if some one who donates gets killed they can just pick there spawn and not worry about anything else but killing who killed them. This is just one step away from BF3 or CoD and is the totally wrong direction to go with this game. Its gonna ruin the game.

Dont get me wrong, I play on PvP servers every now and then when I dont have time and I just want a quick game and maybe kill someone and I will even play the standalone if it goes in this direction but I would be disappointed because they could have made such a better game.

If there is a P2W aspect in the standalone it will almost ruin it. Thats why I refuse to play on servers like that because the more people that play them the more the devs will notice this and implement it in the SA.

We have enough competitive FPS'er as it is and thats not what im looking for in DayZ.

What happened to good ol' DayZ? People happened.

But really, DayZ is what you make of it.
I am a friendly lone wolf who prefers a hatchet to a gun. I interact with people. Sometimes I get murdered, often I don't. I don't do favours for players I don't trust, and people who aren't trustworthy don't usually have the patience to earn my trust just to get a chance to shoot me or take my gear. Once I trust you though, I will give you my food, give you rides in my car and help you any which way I can.
That in turn gives me a bunch of people willing to help me when I need it, avenge my death and look out for me.

But when you're a sniper pretty much everyone doesn't like you and wont trust you or do anything for you. You might die less, but your characters life has less value then in my opinion. It's a shame that so many people do snipe, but each to their own. You just need to find a good server, earn peoples trust, and be careful. And be patient!
There are friendlies out there, their just hiding in the woods

Yep, as many posters before me have said it's pretty much the people - not the game. Way too many CoD kiddies saw youtube stuff from Frankie and others and thought they'd have a piece of the action, not being able to comprehed anything beyond 'I have a gun that must mean I kill everyone I see, the comms system must just be for talking about how I fucked someone's parents despite being a pre-pubescent virgin'.

Man I remember when it was all friendly and shit and you hid from the ONE choppi on the server, back when it was 'want another choppi in the server? TOUGH!' - that was the way forward. More than one heli is just annoying, now even public hive vanilla has like 3 or something.

"would love an older version of dayz bugfixed to play on" couldn't agree more, I was actually thinking of renting a server and putting one of the first patches on, but then decided that I can't be bothered as it'll just get played the same way anyway and I'm not paying for some 12 year old FPS fanboy to come running through my cities with his OMGYOLO23492384HELISMILSTARTOUTGEARPAY2WTFOMG420 tactics. fuck that.

old players are still there, covered by a mountain of evil ones..you can occasionally find a friendly out there, just be ready to kill at any time..it's possible to win fights starting from behind(getting shot), but you must be good, and don't worry, 90% of people are a crappy shot.

I don't see how the SA will make any difference, it isn't the game at fault but those who play it and guess what? The same fuckers wil be playing the SA as the mod.

Don't know what you get this from. You don't get anything in dayzero by donating other than a reserved slot, to join the server easier. Dayzero is a challenging mod close to vanilla, and no one spawns with more than someone else. If you donate the biggest package, you get another starting skin, which isn't even any better than a survival clothing. I donated for a limited time period, and I didn't even get this cloth. I had the exact same as someone who didn't donate for a reserved server slot. Just don't throw out lies about the best mod please.

In what way would having a older version of dayz that is bug fixed make everything so much different ? The pvp would still be the same, admins could still tweak there servers to add helicopters and stuff and still let people pay to win by donating to there server....admins can still abuse there powers to check locations on people and vehicles and stuff and spawn themselves things.

One of the reasons dayz was so good when first released was because it was new....not only was dayz new but the arma engine itself was new to people that only bought arma2 to play dayz mod and mods alike. So when these new players first experienced arma+dayz mod ...team play was a big element not because of any benefits it added but purely because people where all sharing info with each other on how to play the game ...for example:

New player runs into a even newer player ...new player tells the newer player there's a weapon at a certain location and that he can have it ....one thing leads to another and they end up teaming up to explore and have fun (games are more fun with several people right!)

What happens next is after time progressed these players learned the meta game and nothing is new and they don't need/want to team up with anyone (random people at least) as they know everything they need to know...then boredom kicks in because they know the meta game so nothing is new and they decide to pvp to have some fun. Pvp then led to people shooting anyone just for the sake of it and in turn made other people kos players out of fear of also being kos'd or simply to join in on the fun. So teaming up with people is hard now so many although they want to team up they decide against it as they would rather kos others than be kos'd time after time because of trying to talk to a random guy that then kills him.

People started downloading new maps to try get a "new" experience of exploring the map and teaming up again (although pvp was still hugely there in these new maps there was a big increase of people that did want to team up and explore the new map) but as it was only a map that new experience didn't last long and then pvp kicks into the kos stage again.

You will not get that old experience back that you first had when you played dayz....its pointless even chasing it even when SA is released, after you experience the content it will become old and although you may have got a taste of that old experience you are chasing you'll not get close to fully experiencing it again. No older version or newer version of dayz will give you it.
