Ability to remove firing pin

Recommended Posts

While it would be cool for certain guns, a lot of them it would not be very simple and thus would become trivial to add. It would be interesting, though, leaving a cool weapon somewhere for a player and luring them to it, before jumping them and watching their futile attempt to defend themselves with it.

But not all weapons are easy to remove a firing pin from, so, I don't know what the real point in having this feature would be.

Yay. Because KoS isn't already a big enough reason to hate assholes online...

No but seriously, you could keep 2 separate bases. One full of guns, and one full of firing pins.

I don't think people would be taking apart firearms and removing the firing pins. If they didn't want someone using a gun they'd just throw it into a ditch or drain or whatever. People in real life wouldn't leave once-useful firearms in the middle of the street and wait until someone walked by and picked it up, then taunt and shoot them...

Not in favour of giving players the tools to perform ridiculous or outlandish behaviour. Besides, you can already do this by simply leaving a gun without ammo...

How would the firing pin act? As an item? Glued to the gun? Glued to the player that removed it? I personally think this ruins the idea of take what you need and leave what you don't that the current looting system relys on, there would be a 1/100 probability of finding a gun with a firing pin.

Well, why do you want this to be implemented?

Because of what's written below...

But what if the guy has ammo for that weapon? Zat poor KoZer would get his azz whooped...

This is cleary a KoS Kiddie mentality thingee idea...There would be more people opposing this idea than people supporting it due to mental health reasons.

But i would gladly take every firing pin out of every military grade weapon, throw it somewhere never to be found and be happy for every KoSer who picked it up and tried to fire it.

I'm asking the OP on why he thinks it should be implemented.

I'm asking the OP on why he thinks it should be implemented.

In a game like DayZ I like to answer the why not questions and let the players figure out how to use the stuff themselves as part of the experience.

If someone is going to make a suggestion they must put why they want it to be implemented.

Have you ever heard of the phrase "because YOLO?"

Because Jason statham took the firing pins out of the bad guys' guns in this awful movie called Parker that I saw last night. Made me think of how useful that would be in situations where you want to trust the fresh spawn you just met, but you don't want to give them a weapon that they could very easily load.

So you give them the Lee with the firing pin removed (to avoid every weapon being permanently rendered useless, the firing pin could not be separated from the weapon). I would want reattaching the firing pin to take at least the same amount of time as it takes to bloodbag.

Somewhat vague I'm sure. Thoughts?

Exactly. And in a zombie apocalypse, wasting a gun like this is a bad idea. Maybe if you're super geared and it's just some Makarov then I can see it, but in reality every gun you can get helps.

hoarders

i see the potential in this idea when i think how, so far, i'm not testing a weapon before carrying it for tactical reasons(take out svd bugs) and when i think to that moment when it comes the need for fire and the thing doesn't work..

from another point of view it's just for better hoarding(log out with pins in your inventory and rifles in tents).

i'd add instead a general ''break item'' option for smashing food drinks, and degrading weapons/tools conditions..

Having this idea is an indicator that there is still too much stuff around...

Don't even go there, Statik....

OP, I don't really like the idea. Too intricate. (I don't think I spelt that right!) And like everyone has said, people will just troll each other with useless weapons. Unless I keep a pocket full of fiing pins just in case...ugh. No thanks.

I'm just visualizing the bandit who goes around systematically removing bolts and firing pins from weapons until eventually you can never find a working gun on the map. As dulix said, it's too intricate. There are many details the OP has failed to address, so clearly some explanation is necessary. Are the firing pins and their locations persistent? Would weapon parts randomly spawn around the map? What real advantage or gameplay value would this even provide? Usually, if I can't fit a gun in my inventory, I just leave it behind. I don't see many situations where this would be useful to the gameplay in any significant way.

As I stated earlier.... The firing pin and the weapon are not two separate pieces. It would be more like a state that the weapon is currently in.

Think, firing pin removed, unloaded (safe), and loaded. No trolling with useless weapons. Already addressed that. You gotta read ALL the lines

Sorry I missed that post. But if it could be reattached by anyone, and it wouldn't be separate from the gun, then what's the point? A player would just pick up a gun and automatically check the firing pin, and then fix it. It's like saying "all vehicles should have keys. But those keys would always be inside the vehicle. You'd just have to select an action from the menu to use the key."

I do think weapons should have safeties though. Many times I have accidentally hit my mouse button and fired my gun.

But it would take 30+ seconds to "reattach" the firing pin and make the weapon a threat again.

Essentially just another safe guard against "friendly" fresh spawns

Removing the firing pin...

You couldn't find a solution that doesn't require overcomplicating things?

I want to see you disassemble a weapon, replace the firing pin and reassemble it in 30 seconds...

I think this guy practiced but he just field stripped it. And it's "only" an AK.
