As long as people actually had to work for them, head up north find heli crashes or barracks etc. Weapons like m14's, M4's and mk mods should exists in dayz, they should however be earned, and not accessible to any bambi within 5 minutes of them spawning. If you've found them in firestations its either a modified loot table or someone dropped them there. I do agree that the M14 doesn't belong in normal military spawns, should be barracks only IMO. It is a sad demonstration of the general douche bag culture on these forums, and in the game in general. On point, I agree with the OP, military grade weapons are far to common. Military loot spawns are as well. The decision to upgrade the firehalls, Topolka Dam, and castles has been catastrophic to the game balance. I went to one today and although i found a couple of m1911s and a tonne of ammo for them (good news for me as a needed a sidearm) one ak and an m4/16 (didn't really check) and no ammo for 'em and m1014 shells. However, Chernarus is NOT located inside Russia. Let's also not forget that yes, gun laws might have some influence, but think about the situation of DayZ. It's the fucking apocalypse, yo. There isn't a "government" to control the registration, sale, and transport of weapons. Also, there would be some sort of military response, which would likely leave equipment behind in it's wake. One can still find old guns, grenades, military phones, ect. in the forests of Berlin from World War II (granted they don't work anymore, but the fact remains that they are there). When American troops left areas in the middle east, it was often cheaper and easier to leave massive numbers of military firearms behind than to ship them back to the United States. Guns can move in highly unpredictable ways. However, I do agree with the OP that some of these buildings just don't make much sense as military weapon spawns. A military camp, I could understand finding a high-powered rifle there. But a fire-station? Eh? I can't think of any reason why a firefighter would need a gun. As a long time player who's gotten to use all the guns, I can tell you that I'd rather have a fancy AK-74 or M4 than an M14. M14s have their purpose, but frankly don't even really beat an AKM or Sa58 in that purpose, while M4s can come with quite the useful attachments. A firestation is a pretty good defendable building what with having a lookout tower, not too far fetched to think that those with guns would try to hole up in there in a situation like dayz. It also has doors absolutely everywhere that lead into the giant open area where you're going to get surrounded and overpowered. So I guess it does work because people like you go "oh a vantage point better go in there," and then die because of how penetrable it is to a horde of zombies. Them walking through doors happens when you open a door right on them as they were about to open it so they close it on themselves because there's apparently no distinguishable difference between the command to open and close. Brew78 27 Posted September 30, 2013 I haven't seen any of this excessive weapon spawns in any of the cities yet, and in fact have only found one of the short AK's, AK-74u I think? It does seem that the barracks do spawn more weapons than I've seen in prior patches - one spawn had two M14-AIM's and an M4-ACOG, which I've never seen before. Then again, my weapon spawn luck is through the floor relative to most people. Speaking of loot spawns, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with the chopper crashes, but I haven't gotten a single bit of loot yet out of four crash sites. The first one I came across looked like there may have been some things in the tall grass but the server had been laggy and the admin rebooted it as I was approaching (DOH!). The next one was after that reboot, there was another chopper crash in another field nearby, so I thought "Great!" and approached slowly and stayed hidden for awhile. Lots of zombies were spawning so I thought there might be some good loot there. I followed the advice in the "Loot spawns explained" thread and tried to stay 50-100ish meters away for awhile before getting any closer. I crawled around and saw no loot, got spotted and attacked, hauled ass out of there, managed to survive. The next one after that was fairly near a scheduled reboot so may have been there awhile, and same as the prior one, approached slowly and carefully, wasn't ever spotted by any zeds, left with no loot. The fourth was the same story as the second (found the crash fairly quickly after a reboot) except I evaded detection. Actually, I lurked in the area even longer, ran further away, got closer, tried to activate whatever zones might cause loot to spawn, still nothing. Not even any trash loot, just lots and lots of military zombies. Dunno if its an issue with that particular server, if I'm approaching the crash site incorrectly, or if its just a case of my continued shitty luck. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

What I am attempting to state is that whomever holed up in the firestation would have likely barred the doors to keep them shut. I don't know about where you live, but I can't walk up to such a location where I live and just open the door, they are locked and secured. Zombies would have had to break their way in or an infected but not yet showing symptoms person would have had to have made it inside. Firehalls are cinderblock with metal doors. They should have been hard to break into, thus a good place for people to hole up in. It would have been fairly secure. However it isn't for us because Zombies can glitch through ~walls~ and you can't lock the doors. Closing them means they just walk through them. Oh, and they do not always gltich through them because you were closing them. Sometimes they just simply walk through them for no apparent reason.
