Unconscious Zombies?

Recommended Posts

I think that if zombies were knocked out like players, it would create some good DayZ type situations without the need for players.

Here is Bob :D Bob isn't very careful, he goes into fire station killing all zombies with a silenced gun; he reaches the top of the tower before he goes back down to Loot zombies for ammo, as he approaches one zombie he thought he killed it swipes at him giving him a nasty infection. Bob should've double tapped :(

Bit of realism past just lying down zombies being dead that I think would be a nice addition.

I'm fairly sure that the AI can't become unconscious in ARMA 2.

Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Why not?

Why not?

Everything has its limitations. It was a good idea, but even if it was possible I think the zombies are too aggro to sit still. I mean they are angry and relentless monsters, if they stop moving it's because they're dead.

They are still, human that rely on the same systems, they have the same limitations.

I'm not saying they should lie motionless untill you're close, I'm saying that by chance they should spontaneously awaken.

Like it! Zs, if wounded and not killed outright, could have an unconsious counter, just like players. After count down, they could get back up, crawl, or remain immobile but able to attack in close range, all depending on the extent of damage. Bet sticks will become handy if this gets implemented, (poke poke) ;)

Zombies shot in the head are dead. That's how you kill them. If you kill them by shooting them in the chest, you deserve being mauled by them.

From the example it just seems unlikely anyone, even the zeds, could just forget they've been shot and bleeding all over the ground and get up or even attack. I think if a zed is injured so seriously that it can't stay awake anymore, its fighting days are over. It will bleed out on the floor if it wasn't already dead.

I think a zed bleeding system would be good since they are people but don't have the sense to treat their wounds. I doubt anyone can run very far with blood pouring out of open wounds.

It is awful considering the DayZ lore, Zombies are infected.

Their brain is near dead, so it wouldn't make sense anyway, probably destroying the brain so that they couldn't really be knocked out.

No, but only because I'd rather see a wounded zombie crawl after me maniacally.

While the zombies are "relentless monsters," they are still just humans.Humans infected with a virus.

Again, the zombies are not undead. They are people that are still alive, but taken over by the virus. They will die the same way as any other human. (Bleed out, gunshot wounds in general, unable to breathe(even if that doesn't happen in ARMA 2.), etc.)

It is awful considering the DayZ lore, Zombies are infected.

What "lore?" DayZ specificly avoids having any backstory, other than:

- The zombies are infected, not undead. (Like you said.)

- You have washed up on the shore for unknown reasons.

Bam. That's your history.

P.S. - In case I come off as angry, I'm really not!

They would just collapse the same way a normal person would since their body is still a living system, you destroy a body part and it will have the same effect. On the other hand if they were undead like in TWD they wouldn't care if they were shot unless it was the head, then again physics ( should i can it physics? ) would still apply: if you shot off a leg they wouldn't be able to walk, if you shot off their jaw they wouldn't be able to bite. If they were to some degree capable of regenerating they would still be out of commision until they are healed. f.e. everyone knows Wolverine and his ability to heal every wound, a friend told me that in one comic even he was overwhelmed by Captain America when he emptied his gun into him rendering him heavily wounded and incapable of fighting. Damage takes effect no matter what.

I know, I just meant it like they are probably not going to keel over in pain from a shot in the gut/they won't stop because of pain or fear.

Exactly they are alive, so why does it matter if they can be unconscious or not if they will bleed to death from the wounds that made them lose consciousness in the first place.

guys

If I'm not making sense sorry I haven't slept for a couple days.BUT Basically I mean they would be pretty tough to KO since they are so riled up and very animal-like, from OP's example we assume he shot the zombie, a pretty devastating wound for any being. In which case it makes sense to pass out from that but I don't see how you can bleed out on the floor with bullet wounds then get up and get into a physical altercation with someone. I guess briefly you could say 'If you hit it hard enough to bring it down, it's not getting back up'

however I could maybe see the unconscious concept working with blunt melee weapons, e.g. baseball bat isn't the most dangerous weapon but it can knock out infected for awhile instead of trying to fatally wound them

I don't think being angry affects how easily you can be knocked out.

As you said knocking zombies out is a serious advantage to having a baseball bat or similar weapon.

But, I think making zombies unconscious could be a logical way of making smaller calibers like 9mm better.

A single 9mm shot to the gut ain't gonna kill you, or maybe even to the chest, I don't really know but...

Zombies are human, humans can be unconscious.

There are cases where bullets don't affect drunk people of people under drug influence.

I don't really like this idea.  The infected don't feel pain so they wouldn't go unconscious from shock.

The only way to knock on out would be to hit it in the head, but that would kill the zombie anyway. So this is kinda pointless.

Well  the zombies have huge cuts, scars, and lesions all over there bodies.  If they felt pain, they would be crippled and lying on the ground in pain.

There could be a number of things that allow them to almost ignore the pain and very few zombies are visibly that damaged.

And the human system also drifts in and out of consciousness when there isn't a good supply of blood to the brain.

And since bleeding can stop itself via clots then even if zombies couldn't fall unconscious via shock they could still become unconscious and live afterwards although not fit.

I think if I was an angry DayZ zombie I would probably be full of Adrenaline and be very unaffected by pain.

But I could still be knocked out.

It's debatable.

you make fair points but I am not really convince.

I understand, I've had the same thing.

The lack of backstory and info on the Zeds really doesn't help.

this makes me think about how they die with a single hatchet hit..they should just go unconcious or be crippled and bleed to death
