Carrying 2 backpacks.

Recommended Posts

I had an Idea regarding backpacks. I Think that we should have the abillity to carry a backpack on our chest. the gear inside will get heavily damaged if shot/swiped. you also can't hold a gun unless you drop the pack. Carrying 2 packs will weigh you down also.

Funny thing, I was thinking about this yesterday. In fact I thought one should only be able to use the small packs on his chest. Meaning only Patrol Pack, Czech Vest Pouch, -and maybe not sure cause it's quite bulky- Assault Pack (ACU). I don't think one should not be able to fire his weapon at all though. I'd rather we couldn't aim down the sights/scope, only hip firing to say. When travelling abroad I usually have a large 60-70 litres backpack on my back and a small one on my chest and I can pretty much move my arms quite easily.

In the last couple of devblogs, Rocket has been taking about objects being equipped in the players hands.

I think that would be a better way to carry a second backpack, because if you've ever strapped a fully-loaded bag to your chest you'll know, you really can't move around so well.

At least, not in the sense that you have to in DayZ. (running, crouching, crawling etc.)

If we could pick up a bag in our left hand, by the carry handle, using a one-handed weapon in your right hand would make sense. With terrible accuracy, most likely.

Or if you carry a bag with both hands you'd still be able to sprint (sort of).

Anyway, I thought this topic was going to be about putting an empty backpack inside another backpack.

You should be able to do that, for transporting bags around.

It makes sense.

I would think that if you have a backpack on your chest, a number of things would happen. Such as, moving while crouching would be difficult and you would make a lot more noise. If you ran, it would bounce around a lot, possibly blocking your view a bit. And yeah, it would make it more difficult to use a two handed weapon. Maybe there is an option to carry it in your hand, but if it gets too heavy because it is full, you would need to put it on your chest and it would hinder you even more. My 2 cents on it. And yeah, should be able to put an empty backpack inside another one.

Since mr. president started with the trolling/meme approach, and as a picture is worth a thousand words, some examples.

Wut?  I'm not a troll.  :o

Maybe, but that was the third post of yours in this thread (1/3 of total posts), all of them contributing absolutely nothing to the OP's suggestion. In my book that's also trolling/derailing. No offence, just saying my opinion.

If you look closely, the backpack on the third picture is almost identical to the Patrol Pack in DayZ, only difference is that is has one strap and not two. And the Czech Vest Pouch is more compact than the Patrol Pack, making it ideal for such a use. See how slim it is for yourself.

Well, it is a vest pouch. We've already seen that we'll be getting tac-vests and webbing for SA.

Whether they'll be expandable, with velcro-on pouches or whatever, remains to be seen.

That could turn out into an advantage since you are a bit higher you can see over the grass :P

Yes, you'd be crouching. You can't crawl with a pack on your stomach. It's just not practical.

They could add a MOLLE type system where perhaps you can attach some of the smaller backpacks to a MOLLE backpack - it would allow the same type of customisation as available to guns.

There are already MOLLE straps on the Assault Pack and Coyote Backpack, a couple on the smaller Coyote and the Czech - the ALICE pack is the same system but was superceded by the use of MOLLE which would offer many types of small pouches and straps for affixing weapons or additional loads (Maybe water bottle won't have to be carried in inventory) it would also allow the use of a bladder like a Camel Pak.
