Extremely Rare Food + Starvation Effects.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys. After watching "The Road" (And Reading The Novel), and reading a post about the rarity of food in the SA. I really feel that it'd be nice if starvation actually effects your character visually and physically.

- 2 In-Game-Hours Without Food=Light headed-ness, more suspectible to cold.

-  4 In-Game-Hours Without Food= Random vomiting (Increases rate that Hunger Bar goes down), Light headed-ness (Blurred Long-distance vision)

- 5 In-Game-Hours without food= Character becomes weak, may collapse randomly, vomiting, blurred vision, pale-faced, bony appearance.

I don't know if everyone would vomit if they starved, you'd also have to explain in detail what "starving" ist. Some people already have symptoms when they only have a square meal once a day, others have to eat less food but more often during the day without having any signs. How much real time would be an in game hour?

If i wake up early and don't eat at least drink something until noon my blood sugar level gets too low and sometimes i feel naucious or at least uneasy and very dull and it's a pain in the ass to move a muscle. That would be going without food for about half a day ( late dinner to noon ). That would be caused through extreme lazyness to get some food and actually not feeling hungry in between and ending up with said symptoms after the effect suddenly kicks in.

I believe that Rocket is already addressing this.

He mentioned it about a month ago.

He said that once your hunger was low enough you would start to suffer.

Another thing to consider is that humans can usually survive several days w/o food.   Going without water is another story but humans can survive a while without eating.  5 hours seems like a short time period to starve.

I've heard that a Human Being can survive three dayZ without water and 40 DayZ without food.

But the hunger goes down at an unrealistic rate in DayZ mod at the Moment. So we kinda have to  make it possible to aquire these symptoms. You'd have to make food REALLY! REALLY! Rare for anyone to get these effects if you had it like RL

I've been searching the Internet and I think that sometimes you'd vomit if you went without food for awhile.

I think that if you're deprived of meat for a few weekZ or so. You'll start to vomit if you try meat again.

Yeah 40days would be to long.

There is  a middle ground but finding it would be difficult without trial and error.   I suspect stravation time will be tweaked after SA releases.

You'd obviously have to shorten it from a realistic time span in order to keep gameplay actually interesting. Although I guess it is humanely capable of surviving a long time without food (I'm not certain that you could last 40 days without sustenance even in the best conditions, though), it would get boring and extremely reduce hunger as a factor.

Sometimes I think people forget that realism can get in the way of making the game fun (however subjective that may be)

I think this is a good idea. Would love to see it implimented in-game, but possibly with a little larger timeframes..

I've heard of it if you haven't eaten a bite for a very long time you would even die because your stomach would digest itself because it's not used to the acids anymore. The same goes if you give someone who was suffering of thirst...they should take small sips or they are going to be in trouble.

Of course you can't have such an effect with a 24 hour cycle..there were enough suggestions for 6 hour day cycles already. I hope they do something like that so some effects and the hunger and thirst cycle are reasonable.

In survival training we were taught the rule of 3.......3 days without water and 3 weeks without food (theres a 3 for sleep aswell, but carnt remember it lol). Would be nice to see this incorporated. It would need to be scaled down a lot otherwise 1 tin of beans would last forever but tweaking the difference between food and thirst decrese rate to fit more with this would defo help realism. At the moment food does drop a lil slower than drink but not nearly enough.

nother thought was that people that have more body fat can survive for longer without food as there metabolism eats away at the body fat. Could this be incorporated.....say if you eat a lot one day your character begins o put on some weight (same as looking thin when starved) when you gain weight then you can go longer without food, but you would see you character getting thinner and thinner until you start the adverse effects in the OP.

Maybe could effect run speed so thinner people can run faster but have to eat more, or you could play on the coast all day first day, get nice and fat, then know you can get up north with maybe just 1 can of beans.

Imo muscles are going to be affected the most during starvation because other than fat which will also be used up by the body muscles use up energy the body needs to survive so the natural reaction of the body would be to get rid of "consumers". Extra muscles are a luxury to the body and can only be maintained by having the right diet - a good example would be ancient athletes who were the among the few ones who had the money and time to afford it. Lots of people end up with more fat than they started because they had the wrong diet.
