thats my only worrry because if after a few months down the line of dayz standalone launching and this is allowed like in the mod guess what ? everyone moves on from vanilla and the same old bs happens again. thing is people like different stuff but with the different comes the exploits and other bollocks. guess well have to see how it goes.

if everything stays locked down man ill be happier than a pig with three apples

and for now just ignore crappy servers..empty vanillas, both public and private hive, are everywhere, but you can always find some whitelisted community where people actually plays..and dayzero is not so different apart for the infection..which before patch was something rare..

i agree with you mate, hopefully it will be locked down until DayZ 2 - aka NightZ...

I think the best thing they could do is regularly release new content to scratch our itch for more, other than open it up for butchering

I personally don't mind the servers. I generally hop over to a 100 vehicle server or something.

casual gaming ftw.

I'LL KILL YOU!! ;)

But seriously, casual gaming has its place, but is it for all games? Surely SOME games should require time and effort for the reward at the end...

i remember the first time i encountered a vehicle. i'd been playing about a month or so (yep, took that long) dedicated on our own hosted public hive vanilla server, me and a couple of the guys i played with were in berezino looting up the upper super-market and thought we heard an engine but weren't even sure (because we'd never even HEARD a fucking engine before!).then it gets louder and we're all like 'fuck man that's gotta be a car! a car somewhere!' then the red lada zooms by the window and we're shouting 'FUCK! FUCK! GET THEM! TAKE THE VEHICLE!!' but by the time we manage to run out of the super-market (with our AK-74 and other such mediocre crap) the guy had gone and we had a genuine feeling of dismay, missed opportunity and the good old 'if only we were in x place at x time...' that you never seem to get anymore.

that was a genuinely excellent and heart-felt experience for us all. now you see a vehicle and you're all 'oh well, i'll just walk over this hill and i guarantee there'll be a fully fixed ural or little-bird or something ridiculous like an M230 MLRS' or whatever.

sad times

the reason is - when there are not 100 of fixed vehicles on server, there are no players...

COD-gamers want faster gameplay....

the best would be, a server with 1 exemplar of each vehicle and 1 heli... and for sure rare sniper-rifles...

You can also shoot a wide ranged target with lee enfield+ iron sight ;) - I do not need a scope ;)

when I do not know what I can do... I am camping on sniperhill east of electro with enfield and hitting targets near train-station...

I often play, COD1+COD2+Red Orchestra 1+Darkest Hour ... THATS THE DIFFERENCE ^^

you learn shooting with iron sight... - there is no high tech stuff needed :D

Yeah, I hope the SA stays utterly vanilla/ non- moddable for its entire life.

As soon as you open up something in this genre' that's so precisely tuned, it loses that fine tuning and becomes slightly more generic.

That would be a real shame and a loss imo.

Some games fit into the mould of being ideal to mod, but DAYZ, because it is so raw and unique can only become more mainstream if modded in 95% of cases... Check what we have now for example... A lot of variations that have absolutley zero appeal to a lot of folk who took a real interest in the origional game.

It has just watered down the whole thing... And made it more easy too which is the worst that could happen, as its appeal was in its difficulty.

Anyway... Fingers crossed for a fantastic SA boys and girls. ;)

Modding/private hives will eventually happen imo. It's yet another "choice is good" situation where the majority want something but don't realize it's bad for the game and the whole experience in the long run.

So what about people that don't have the time to dedicate to spending days find good gear? Because I have a responsibilities which prevent me from playing hours upon hours a day why should I be punished? I want to play DayZ and enjoy all the experiences it has to offer as well... If I had to spends a week or more to do that I would quickly become bored and simply find something more rewarding to play.

The mentality of a significant portion of the people on here is so fucked I'm not surprised these forums are highly ignored, even shunned.

Infection killed off the vanilla servers for me - I won't play them anymore. I moved onto DayZero instead and even play some of those "COD" servers but when I do, it's not dayz - there's none of that adrenaline you get on a proper DayZ server or it's very watered down. I think quite a few people are going to be disappointed with the SA and fuck em if they are.

I think you may be one of them. You'll be begging for 'infection' back when you're lying in a ditch dying of cholera and various other diseases in the standalone, haha.

fairly sure everyone has a life outside of dayz. there's a reason you'd be spending ages to find good gear on a vanilla server, you say you want to enjoy all the experiences the game has to offer, but you're missing the fact that the best experience the game has to offer is extreme tension.

spawning with a dmr and an m9 sd is a great way to devalue the entire system, where's the stress of maybe having to start all over again when starting all over again means you have more ammo than when you died?

there is maybe one vanilla chernarus server i can find in AUS that's running and occasionally well populated, and it's about to be replaced with epoch, because it got drowned out by 80 player 200+ vehicles and extra weapon  PvP servers. (also because a bug with 1.7.7.1 and private hives causing gear to just not spawn)

the casual servers are fun every so often, but i didn't get Combined Ops only to play the casual servers, there's no meat on those bones after about an hour. I hope SA is completely unmoddable, just because people seem determined to turn everything into a variation of CoD, and if i wanted CoD, i'd have fucking bought it.

TL;DR Nothing good came out of allowing people to set spawn loadouts or adding extra cars/buildings to a server, it just diluted good gameplay into a cod/gta variant.

I can see the life coach my company recently employed to 'motivate' the workforce. :|

'Embrace change' was pretty much the whole day summed into one sentence. Probably cost a bomb to pay for that when a free bar would have sufficed.

Anyway, that's the problem with these threads, it's a human thing, some like change, some want things to stay the same, and all are equally passionate.

I like Dean and co.'s vision for DayZ and hope he stays on that path.... and while I think the trend for pay to play is kind of ridiculous...there are people like ShoSho out there trolling the guys who pay to spawn with DMR, NVGs, yeah the mre I think about it, they are quite ridiculous, (like the gaming equivalent of scabs is what I would say if I was being tough).

"Punished", haha. What you're not getting is this game was never intended to be about instant gratification. It was supposed to be brutal, hard and unfair. That is what made it different to anything else out there. By playing on those servers you're not enjoying all the experiences DayZ has to offer, that's the whole point.

If you don't have the time to dedicate to finding gear then don't play the fucking game.

This game is not for you.

It's that simple.

There are countless 'zombie survival' games/mods out there now that all have the same premise. Get good gear. Shoot zombies. Shoot players. Whatever.

I'm sure CoD zombies would be more your style than this.

The entire fact is that the experience of DayZ is spending days finding your loot.

I remember playing with a new friend. I spawned way on the west. At whatever town it was.

He spawn-scummed to get to me.

While I was waiting, I went scrounging for items to pick up. While I was in there, someone, a spawn-camper, came into town to kill me.

My friend came up behind him and popped him in the head with a full mag of his makarov (yes, this was when you spawned with guns).

The guy had an ALICE pack full of items. A pair of NVGs, silenced M4, an AS50, silenced M9, rangefinder, everything.

That was the single biggest windfall we'd ever had. Ever. That was insane.

Why? Because finding those items on their own would have taken us WEEKS.

When I got hold of my first pair of NVGs, I stopped playing the game for a week because I was scared of losing them.

That is what DayZ is. And that is what you are clearly unfit to participate in. I'm not being snobbish, I'm not being elitist.

If you don't have the time to play DayZ, then that's a giant warning sign that you probably shouldn't play DayZ!

Play something else that has instant gratification! CoD, BF3, Wasteland mod, and now, because 80% of the community is comprised of people like you who think that DayZ should be dummed and watered down to suit casual gameplay, DAYZ private servers! \o/

Congratulations on proving the entire point of my original post with yours.

When was the last time any of you crept on your stomach through a zombie-infested field towards a house, praying that there would be a makarov in there?

Yesterday. Was playing on UK410. Seems like an okay server. Had played for an hour a night over two or three days. Third day finally managed to find a crow-bar. Had only had stuff like pain killers and random ammo and a tiny bit of food up until that point. Then my luck spiked when I found a compass... then dipped when I went to the mountain that shall not be named and got infected. For some reason I'm on no blood but not dying... don't get that.

Damn filthy casuals!

I hope the standalone is locked down pretty tight as far as weapons and vehicles and their spawn rates are concerned.

Another prime example of people wanting all the shinies and not have to put any of the effort in to get them properly - the sort of players that would be better suited going away and playing something more their.. calibre.

Call of Duty perhaps?

Sometimes you have to make compromises in life. I don't have much time but I play on quite hardcore servers. IMO if you are playing on an easy server you are just denying yourself the gameplay that is looting and survival.

As harsh as it sounds, this is the truth.

'I don't have time' is not a valid excuse. If you don't have time to find and repair a heli, then play the game without a heli. Would 'I don't have time to train my aim' be a valid excuse for aimbotting in CS?

I hope the new diseases work a bit more like proper diseases where warmth, water, food, rest, time (immune system) can help you recover and they have a varying impact on your abilities. At the moment the current 'infection' is basically 'find this rare item or die' and it is pretty stupid. I hope the SA has food poisoning, bacterial infection and viral infection. I hope diseases are annoying and difficult to shake but that most of them don't require just one 'special' item to fix. Kinda shatters the illusion.

I've got COD (twitch gameplay) and I'm getting BF4 (to play arcadey helicopters) when it arrives but I bought Arma II for DayZ for the survival. I will by SA for the proper, hardcore survival too. :)

I think of 'infection' as general disease/infection and antibiotics as the medical treatment required, similar to how morphine in no way fixes broken legs but is used to represent the treatment in DayZ. It's by no means perfect but with the limitations of the mod (and of course the fact that we're still early in development) it's the best that we have right now.

I expect that these things will be improved over time in the mod and also hope that they are much more authentic in the standalone (which I'm sure they will be).
