Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...

Recommended Posts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdcVPKD803E

Like seriously he fires in one location and suddenly the whole item is damaged? How does that vest just fall apart from 2 shots? Those things can take quite a beating from what I've seen. Also why do items suddenly break like the magazines even though they couldn't have possibly been hit where you fired? Why is the shirt destroyed from a few shots? I fucking slid down the road coming off my Motorcycle at a high speed and my clothes were damaged but they were mostly fine, I bet in SA I would be completely naked and probably have an infection and then die because antibiotics are nowhere to be found.

It is way too gamey and looks shit frankly, I'm not gonna spend my time looking for a new pair of trainers because I might get an injury just because I was shot in the arm and some how my trainers were damaged. Why would you get a foot injury anyways from worn out trainers? At worst you'll get blisters, tbh I walk around all the time in bare feet and I'm fine, if I get a bit of glass in my foot, I pull it out and get over it, but I bet in this system I'll get aids and die.

I was waiting for you to post a topic like this.

The game is still in development. Things can and will be changed. No need to get frustrated about it.

Correction: Damage in the DayZ SA ALPHA looks dumb.

It is still in alpha, quit complaining.

It may not be perfect but it is a good idea.  Like Inception said, it is still in development and I'm sure it'll be improved over time,

The system is just beginning to be implemented right now, they're going to have to do some tweaking obviously, that's why the game is labeled pre-alpha.

Have you made a game before? Have you gone through the painstaking process of tweaking, leveling, balancing, and fixing features in a quality title? No? Then shut up and read the "ALPHA" in the game's title very slowly.

See while you were watching and raging. There was a fella talking about what you were looking at, quite clearly telling you; "Might be a little bit overpowered, for this demonstration here. But you can see where we're going with the concept" and "I need to play with the values quite a lot, to get them working right. But you can see the basics of the concept"

What's the point though? You probably aren't even aware of the folk here pointing out how daft you're being.  :P

It's like people willingly force themselves to not understand the concept of the Alpha and actually are completely ignoring what is said in the video.  Just please stop this.  Use your head.  It'll be better for everyone.

Plus rocket clearly said, he needs to tweak it. I don't think a glancing 5.56 shot to the head should render a helmet useless, nor do I understand how it destroyed the shirt and vest. But this is recent in an alpha. They need to tweak the values, and hopefully it will get balanced out in the future.

:)

I was thinking the same, but this is all placeholder (or at least it better be)

because lets face it 2-3 bullets to a vest isnt going to make it useless by a long shot.

and shooting someone in the arm isnt going to break the magazines stored in the chest pockets.

I am sure it will be fixed.

its on the same level as pin-pointing where blood comes from depending on where you got shot.

Items are stored at point A and point B on the body, if the attacker hits point A or B then items at point A or B should have a % chance to get a % damage.

:P im sure you said all this in your post OP

Also you need to take into consideration the life of your character is sped up like x20

shoes take a year to wear-down in a normal persons life, and most runners goes through shoes in about a month.

You seem to have a lot of negativity. This is a work in progress and new features are bound to have some bugs, glitches, or be incomplete. Big game companies develop their huge games -which they love to cram down our throat time and time again - over years of development, usually with a huge team of developers, and an enormous amount of pre-media development.

Take Skyrim for example. It had two whole years of development before the announcement trailer was even released, and then another year of development after that, with a team of 70 - 100 people, based on an engine that they originally wrote for Morrowind, then rewrote for Oblivion, Then did the same for Skyrim. On top of that, Skyrim didn't have to deal with any sort of multiplayer aspect whatsoever. Issues of desync and all that crazy stuff DayZ has to deal with aren't even present in those games. And look at the kind of team it took to do it.

So I think it's fair to say that rocket and friends are coming along quite swimmingly. DayZ has a lot of challenges it has to overcome before it is going to constitute a well polished game.

That's why they're calling it a PRE-ALPHA. As politely as I can put it, please have some sense, sir.

I think he was just waiting for someone to come onto the forums complaining about how damage isn't realistic enough, or how it doesn't work like they want it to, even though the chances are they've never attempted to make a game or even know that the freakin' thing is STILL IN ALPHA.

I saw Miffy complaining in the comments about the same thing on the devblog video

Yeah, Because I know I want to wear the clothes from the asshole I just shot, that are covered in what could be highly infectious or deseased blood. I would rather find a new set of skins to be honest. If they have worked out the model where you bleed exactly from where you were hit on your body, I dont see why it would be any different from the equipment your carrying. Believe me if a single round from an AK-47 hit a set of NV goggles or even a bullet-resistant vest, there would not be much left in the way of a trully functional item left.

Example A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixnTDXg9eLs  (the last rifle is what iam talking about)

I think your concerns are unfounded, like it has been said many many times before,  the game is still in ealry Alpha. Now go and watch a bunch of videos of what happens when items and folks are hit by real ballistic rounds and tell me what the problem is, after the same happens in the standalone game. (you can watch this at many sites, one of the best is http://www.military.com/ , BUT i warn you its very graphic in nature. ALl i can say is your very lucky to come off yoru bike at high speed and have nothing but your clothes slightly roughed up. I have seen some bike accidents that left high-grade helmuts and heavy leathers, look like nothing but broken eggs and shreaded wheat, Not to say anything about the person in side of that protective gear.

so Rockets decided that adding tons of items and damage to items will affect KoS, then decides to basicly throw away all the work on Zombie AI, and even mentioned considered releasing the alpha sans Zombies..

hahah yea that'll TOTALY slow down KOS, when theres NOTHING else in the game except other players..

haahah....

far i i see it the players who KoS, arent killing you for what u might have for themselves to use, its about taking it away from the player who was shot.

basicly grieving if you will.. killing simply for killings sake.

no amount of item degradation is going to make a bandit, decide not to pull the trigger in most cases.

GTAv is around the corner, so whateva at this point..

I believe Rocket was showing off the damage concept, in that gear can get damaged, rather than a final product.

As DayZ is a survival sim, gear being damaged beyond being useful in a firefight is not only accurate but extremely likely. All that needs to be done is numbers tweaking to make sure it has a chance to affect gameplay without breaking it. Much like infection chance or chance of a piece of high end gear spawning.

In an ideal world the damage would be confined to the area shot and only damage equipment in that particular zone.

Not sure how difficult this would be to implement though, especially with all the items that will be in game.

I think the point isn't slow down kos. The game is about you making decisions. Implementing this mechanics, Rocket is adding consequences to kos (and we can't complaint about that, the concept is tottaly plausible). Considering that, we'll face a whole lot of different situations in a player x player encounter. This way we'll have a more powerfull and interesting experience playing this game. It means more interaction (good or bad, it doesnt really matter) than just "pew pew" incidents while caming across another player.
