ways to collect and use empty bullet casings

Recommended Posts

a little thought but I'm suggesting you can pick up spent shell casings off the ground or find a bag that attatches to the side of your gun

you could put them on the ground inside a building and use them as a sound trap to hear people come into the building your in

Put a trail to attract people

if you found the equiptment (yeah right in chenarus? really, pffffff) you could reuse them with the higher risk of a jam.

clean them and use them to hold water

any other suggestions? criticizims? post below

Sounds neat, would love to have this implemented into the game. Would be cool if the bullets deteriorate or something though.

I feel it's a little over the top. The sound trap maybe, but I really don't like the idea of refilling casings. It takes lots of skill/practice to refill bullets. You also need loads of special tools. An average joe (what your DayZ player is suppose to simulate) is not refill a casing.

I don't believe it's as simple as throwing on a primer, and tossing some powder inside, etc.

Where would you get the fresh primers, gun powder, and bullets to reload said casings? I like the idea of collecting them, as well as shells being objects (which would make tracking people down or locating a shooter's previous position a real possibility), but reloading is a difficult process that takes specialized tools, electricity, machinery, ect.

You'd have to get all that machinery working before you could even think about reloading spent brass. Even if you got a primer in it and filled it with gunpowder, you'd still need a factory-grade projectile to work with your gun. The slightest flaw in a bullet and your gun could explode. Or the bullet might tumble and move through the air in unexpected ways, making said gun extremely inaccurate.

A brilliant idea imo regarding the sound trap and tracking players by there trash. However, if every player on a server leaves bullet casings everywhere imagine the load on the server :|

I think.

If ammo is rare enough it should just stay on the ground.

Untill server reset.

Server reset?

Where we're going, we don't need roads....

I mean server resets.

Ok doc brown

But maybe every few hours they just de spawn.

My thinking of this is also because it can be used to track somebody.

You see 7.62 casings on ground and say... Hmmm I think I'll follow these :D mwuhahahahaa

My DayZ experience leads me to think of shooting as more of a "measure twice, cut once" sort of thing.

Not exactly likely to leave breadcrumb trails.

On one hand, it would be cool as fuck. On the other hand, it's pointless server-load.

Mmm, but Rocket said things about tracking. I'd like to find hints of players, moist areas leave boot prints and stuff like that.

Well it is my belief that the game should not spawn complete ammunitions at all, i mean "who" i making them 5 years after society disappeared? What, you managed to found a box of yet unopened 5.56mm? You and 1000 other players? no thanks.

I'd rather see players walk around with guns that are empty most of the time, but are kept for intimidation purpose.

Do you think you're more likely to find the components to craft your own?

I seriously doubt it.

I'm all for the Mad Max style, one shot-shell for "an emergency". And that's all you've got apart from a bluff and a poker-face. But that's probably even more unrealistic.

Ammo might be a rare commodity, but where there are guns, there are going to be boxes of ammunition somewhere.

Nowhere is it written that survivors have been scouring Chernarus for the whole time since Z-Day.

For all we know, we might be the first to set foot there in years.

Hello there

Let's stop treating info about DAYZ as "Cannon" and "Gospel Truth". The backstory, if any has not been fleshed out yet and could change anytime, so arguing semantic about timelines etc is rather pointless.

It would be a very interesting mechanic is bullets were a rare commodity and that crafting them could be achieved.

Using home machined ammunition could add a whole rage of uniqueness and randomness to the game. If one's homemade rounds were susceptible to misfires, stovepiping etc or even having incorrect trajectory, reduced velocity etc for me that would make PVP far more unknown, uninteresting with more variables.

Yes , in many countries the equipment to reload one's ammo are not common, but perhaps Chernarus' main export is munitions? That would explain the rather more common occurrence of the requisite bits and bobs.

If we can craft our own ammunition I would actually really like a few black powder guns.

They would be slow to load but ammo would be far easier to reproduce.

agreed

we've got it so you find loose bullets and then add them to an empty mag i think its a good balance between crafting new ones and finding full mags.

I think finding loose bullets is pretty smart actually.

People are gonna nab up them boxes, but when you're running through town from zombies nobody's going to fumble around while being eaten by zombies for a single bullet.

i feel it could work if we'd have hand made guns aswell...or they could fuck your gun with a given %..the more complex is the tracking system the more i'll be happy

I remember seeing a thing on da TV and a guy in Jail managed to make a 9mm SMG out of metal pipes.

It was on discovery aswell.
