mzltv 2281 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) Hi all, Below is my very first build. I've been told by a good few people now that I'm paying a lot of money for what it is - and that I can improve vastly in some areas. They however, haven't told me what is overpriced. I'd be appreciative if you could quickly peruse the below and tell me what I could change? I'm quite happy personally but I don't know much about computers and feel that I need someone to tell me:AMD FX6300 3.5GHz (6 Core) (already purchased)CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU CoolerASRock 990FX Extreme4 ATX AM3+ (already purchased)Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x 4gb) DDR3/1600MHzSamsung 840 Series 120GB SSDSeagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm HDDGigabyte Radeon HD7970 GHz Edition 3gbBitfenix Shinobi (Window) Mid-TowerCorsair CX600wLite-on DVD/CD WriterPeripherals:Asus VE278Q 27" MonitorLogitech K120 Wired KeyboardLogitech G400 Wired Optical MouseTotal cost: £1,150.82 / $1,852.82 / €1,359.63 http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1PNLx Edited November 5, 2013 by mzltv

Maybe, if anything you could put in another hard drive or slightly larger SSD?
mzltv 2281 Posted November 5, 2013 Maybe, if anything you could put in another hard drive or slightly larger SSD? It's all dependant on the amount of money I get to fund it all from my bonus. I suppose I could increase the SSD if the funds allow... My primary concern is the whole HD7970 GHz Edition vs R9 280x arguement. I hear that the 7970 GHz Edition can out-do the R9 280x in terms of potential overclocking. Failing that, in the future I could probably just Crossfire 2x HD7970's. That'd pack a punch I suppose. Intel Core i5-3470 3.2Ghz8GB(2x4) DDR3 RAMWD 1 TB 7200 RPM SATACoolerMaster Elite 400WGeForce GTX 650 TiWin 7 64 Would run okay on medium settings. The graphics card would hold the rest of the system back a bit. Desktop or laptop: LaptopMonitor resolution: 1600c900CPU: AMD phenom II B640 Dual-Core Processor 2.90GHzGraphics card: IDKRAM: 6.00 GB (5.74 GB usable)SSD: No Need to know which graphics card you have in there really. If it's an integrated chip then you won't run ArmA II on there. If it's a mid-range dedicated card then you'll be able to just about run on low-medium settings. mrxbath 1 Posted November 6, 2013 Would run okay on medium settings. The graphics card would hold the rest of the system back a bit. That's what I was afraid of... I was also looking at the boosted, 2GB model from Asus. What if I had 2x GTX650 Ti Boost 2GB?

Running dual cards will cause more problems than it would solve. The GTX 660Ti would be a decent choice though.

ApachiiNoob 1 Posted November 7, 2013 Yes, but on low-medium settings.Bullshit. the i3 is a decent CPU, I'd choose it any day over an FX Cpu. he'll get around 40 FPS maybe, and i3 is just a crippled i5.

It means one core can do more workload then if it was without Hyper threading. The i3 is a bit weak as ARMA likes to use a lot of CPU usage. It should run on Low to Med at least. The 4gb of RAM might be pushing it for future games though.
Skypill 399 Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) Thank you for the reply! I was hoping for more. What do you think is my week point in this build ? Cheers! If im honest with you, there is no weakpoint in that build, it is pretty solid..But if you can i'd reccomend a amd 7870 as your gpuEdit- actually hold that thought. You would probably benifit more from getting 4 more gigs of ram Edited November 9, 2013 by Skypill
