Client side grass rendering

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I see grass sticking out is removed after a certain distance for optimization purposes. When players are hidden in tall grass they might think they are hidden but they are an easy target in an open field. Maybe a compromise could be to render grass through a scope e.g. if a DMR is scoped on a hill in the distance, even if it is far away, render grass (client side) in the scope but nowhere else. I assume this would be difficult to program and maybe could also create an optimisation issue if too much grass is rendered.

No, they're not. If you look closely the grass is removed, the players sink into the ground, though. If they keep their head down and don't move it is really possible that you can't see them even though you know where they are.

Yep, BIS added a so called "grass layer" a couple of years ago thanks to players complaining about that hiding/not hidden problem.

yeah cus someone crawling in deep grass is gonna stick his head down....

Of course if you try to hide in grass that is about 10cm high and stick your head close to the ground you won't see a thing either but you will be seen since you stick out like a sore thumb...

Wouldn't it even stick out if there was grass? I don't see your point? If someone moves you will see him. If it's real grass or a poorly made layer.

Don't play third person servers and nobody will have their face in the grass.

First person won't let them see things while prone in grass.

That is unless they are on a hill looking down, albeit a steep hill.

In which case they're actually being tactical.

That's why it is common sense that beeing on a hill ( or beeing above ) gives you an advantage. Raptors use that tactic every day.
