Why remove Direct Chat?

Most servers I play on have Direct chat removed, sometimes as well as side, sometimes side remains.

Now I can see the point of removing side, what with the number of children under 12 playing, but getting rid of Direct? In my opinion, that's basically FORCING you to KoS. I'd much rather have the opportunity to (try to) befriend someone rather than see who is the quickest to pull the trigger.

I would say find another server.  Side's one thing but direct?  Hope these aren't 'official' servers.

Wow, what servers do you play on? never come across one with direct chat removed. are you sure its not an issue with your client?

Ya that is crazy that makes it so that you ether have to talk to the whole server with side,or go into a car when ever you want to talk about plans and thats no good

Exactly. Servers in question are private hive, Aussie servers (not all of them of course!).

It's getting harder to find a good, populated, vanilla aussie server.

I can't even think of a bad reason to remove direct chat, never mind a good reason.

seems an admin bad mistake for me..no casual encounters possible, you can just go on teamspeak before playing..maybe they are a small community with a lot of ts channels and people go there from start..and the others just join the slaughter

What server was it? Every now and then me and some mates get on and none of the (aus) servers I've seen have direct disabled.

 

Beyond DayZ, since the original OFP I've never seen it disabled in any game I've been in.

I don't see anyone one flaming him, people are just surprised to hear of servers disabling direct chat.

Disabling direct chat is a good way to encourage PvP - maybe it's just under the guise of PvE... thus making it a phoney.

I dont feel as if I'm being flamed, so if anyone was trying, sorry it didnt work ;)

There have been 2 servers I've come across with direct disabled. Dont really see a need to name them, after all, maybe they are trying to encourage PvP? They arent my permanent server, nor do i condemn them for doing it. i just thought it was interesting and liked to hear what you guys thought.
