Optimum Numbers for Zombie Survival

Recommended Posts

I've discussed this topic with a friend of mine on numerous different occasions, and thought it would be interesting to see what others thought, and whether they apply it to DayZ. It all spurred from the usual Zombie Apocalypse talk, and we got onto the subject of moving around, and what the best number of people in one group would be and why.

We've both agreed it's around the mark of 3-4 people. 2 being absolute minimum, and 5 being max. Main reasons for this being;

- how easily and quickly you can move as a group: as too many people can slow you down easily, having to wait for people.

- communication: again more people makes it harder to communicate effectively.

- amount of supplies people can carry: too fewer people may mean you have to sacrifice supplies to make room for others.

- effectiveness in fighting off zombies and players: too few can make it difficult to cover and help each other, as with 2 or more people, you can cover each others backs.

Having played a large amount of DayZ, and look at the number of people I've always played it with, and it's always been around 4 maybe 5 people mark. Sure I've done some lone-wolfing, and also played in much larger groups (I think 8 or 9 friends was the max we had all together at any one time), but everything seems to be better at the 3-5 number. Would be cool to hear everyone elses thoughts on the perfect number, and the reasons for or against certain numbers of people, and whether this has been proven to work or not work in your DayZ experiences.

4/5 is an ideal number, in my book.

Whilst it does make you a little more obvious, it also allows you to scavenge areas quicker, combine resources efficiently and most of all, have a good number of people to efficiently execute tactics and maneuvers when caught in bandit fire, or organising a town scavenge run or whatever. Anything less, it just feels like there'd not be enough cover to perform the day-to-day DayZ routines.

I'm rounding up regulars for the revolution. A socialist revolution. Everything will be shared, and those who refuse to share shall be killed. DOWN WITH THE LOOT HOGGING CAPITALIST PIG BANDITS! UP WITH FRIENDLY SHARING COMMUNISM! DA COMRADE!

On topic, I prefer as many people as possible. Strength in numbers, me amigo. We find a bandit base? We all rush in and shoot wildly. Shure we may lose a few, but we'll make a damn good show of it.

between 3-5 for me, we used to have a group of 8, and almost being 25% of a server isn't fun or challenging as most people are either with one buddy or lone wolfing. Anything over 5 makes the game an absolute joke.

Depends on whether or not I have a good base a good place to get supplies. If I have lots of supplies and good base, I'll take lots of people. If I don't, probably around 3-5.

I've played with around 7-8 people at once and I must say it was NO FUN....to many people talking over each other also in the middle of a gun fight they forget who went were and end up shooting you thinking it was the ''bad guys''

The most fun I've had is when it's 2-4 people everything just seems to click a lot better.

For dayz survival all you need is one other person. When infected are more dangerous we'll see how that changes

I there were a real zombie apocalypse  (hypothetically speaking), I'd bring along at least two to three fat American kids.

If you're American, please substitue another girthy nationality that doesn't offend you...say Canadians.

Optimal is dependant on your location and the available resources in the locality.

A city increases the resources but also the number of rivals and infected, for example.
