liquidmind 320 Posted August 30, 2013 Not spawn with a bike, but make em more common when they're put back into the game.Reading that, I wonder why there are no "spawn with a bike"-Servers... you can have everythign from bloodpack to as50 nowadays as a freshspawn. But no bikes so far... I completely agree with what you say. IRL no one runs all over the place. They walk or jog. In DayZ all you do is run, which is kind of silly. If nothing was done to fix this, it wouldn't be a game breaker for me, but I would very much enjoy more walking/slower jogging. Players should still be able to run quite a distance before becoming exhausted, but not as long as in the game. I can't help but look at Stalker for this one. In Stalker walking is slow. You don't usually walk too much in the game unless you are in combat. Jogging is the normal method of moving and is a realistic speed. You are quicker than walking but no where near the speed of a full sprint. You can jog forever in stalker unless you are carrying tons of gear. And then there is sprinting. You can only sprint for a minute or two in stalker. You are much quicker than Jogging and walking but you can't do it forever. WarZ did it wrong. You could walk or sprint. Walking was too slow and sprinting was too limited. It was clearly an attempt to make the map feel bigger. What I believe DAyZ should do is make jogging the main movement speed. It should be slower than the current run but not unreasonably slow. You should be able to jog forever unless you have tons of gear. Walking wouldn't be required but it wouldn't be too much slower than jogging like the walk-2-run that is in Arma 2 now. Sprinting would be the fastest but you could only sprint for about 4 minutes or so before becoming fatigued. Four minutes is easily enough time to loose Zeds unless you are a terrible player, in which you deserve to become fatigued and be killed. The Arma 3 system would be good. The combat pace would be the norm. The walk would be ...the walk. And the sprinting in arma 3 is already limited so it could be tweaked and ported to DAyZ. completely agree! I think a system like the posture (standing tall to lying down in steps) is a good system to go. Having a faster and a slower button could toggle the default walkingspeed and a sprint-button could temporarily boost you to the fastest speed. Each exhausting more or less. (usually a worse 'exhaustion to distance travelled'-ratio the faster you are). This would also fit very nicely into the "you do things better the more you do them" scenario. It would allow to walk a bit faster or longer, but still not sprint very fast or on the oposite, if you only drive by car and sprint away from zombies, that you can sprint twice as long and fast as others but still exhaust after 2km of walking. So many possibilities.... :-)
mick17 93 Posted September 2, 2013 I don't think spawning with a bike would be a good idea. I don't like the thoight of any type of starting gear. The SS is going to be so much different than the mod. No longer will there be towns that you know to pass over because there wasn't anything there. 95% of buildings are enterable now. So there will be so much more to do in your immediate area.
Hosty 647 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) I LOVE walking. It's enjoyable and relaxes me after a gunfight and too much panic.Screw you guys. It's not a walking simulator. It's just you guys being lazy. Edited September 2, 2013 by Hosty
Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 2, 2013 I don't think spawning with a bike is a good idea, but they should probably be more common.Bikes are all over the place IRL.If there was more of a cost to your stamina (or food/water needs) it would be more lifelike too. Really though, when on foot, you shouldn't be thinking of traversing the WHOLE area of the map. You should be changing your overall scope and pace depending on your current mode of transport.Personally, I think the game allows us to get around too quickly while walking. It makes the massive scale of Chernarus sort of trivial when you can run across it in 20 minutes. This.^ I think if anything we should be slowing down the pace of the game. What's the point in having a 200km2 map when you can run from Kamenka to Berezino in 45 minutes? :S
joe_mcentire 2074 Posted September 2, 2013 i dare you to run past such a scenery! add atmospheric places of the like and you have enough places and incentives to walk again and to enjoy
okami (DayZ) 129 Posted September 2, 2013 To be honest the best moments of early dayz for me where running through the woods not knowing if i was anywhere near a high populated area, constantly looking over my shoulder and concentrating on every bush and crazy logs gave me heart attacts. If i would imagine my first experiences in dayz would be riding my bike into cherno while a group of bandits tried to outrun me with crazy bmx styles... it might not exactly have been what dayz was supposed to be... Also i dont know why everyone is complaining about the running speed in arma 2. Its as realistic as possible while adjusting some things to fit into game mechanics. Otherwise you wouldnt have to eat a steak every 30 minutes. And if you really compare it to real life, 18 kph is not even impossible, people run half marathons with 20 kph. Yes they do not wear backpacks full of engines but you get my point. Its not totally unrealstic and tweaked to be enjoyable.
