Flare Gun

I think it would be great to have a Flare Gun in DayZ Standalone. It would be a single-shot, breech-loaded 12-gauge painted bright orange that could be used to signal for help, broadcast a location, or distract zombies.

 

How would it differ from Road Flares?

Since the flare can be shot up in the air instead of simply being thrown, it can be seen from much farther distances, especially for aerial vehicles.

 

The Flare Gun would work very similar to the M203 Flare Launcher attachment. However, the M203 Flare Launcher would be rare (and, of course, require a compatible gun) whereas the Flare Gun would be a little bit more common.

 

What do you think? The DayZ development team are adding a lot of new items such as different types of watches and compasses, so why not apply that same concept of variance to Flares?

It would be a neat thing to see and I'm sure will come in handy.  I don't see why it shouldn't be added.

Most flares of that type are parachute flares, so they would stay in the air longer.  Would be good if you could use this 12 gauge flare in compatible shotguns (thinking the double barrel) and use the flaregun like a shot pistol.

Well, to be honest I'm sure it has, just more along the lines of 'dey shud add in flarguns on baots sew we kan set de zombies on fire!'

This would be cool, especially if it attracted a LOT of zombies. I can definitely see people signalling helicopters in the middle of a night, and having a sort of last-stand on a rooftop while they wait for it to land.
