My Tale of Friendship...

Recommended Posts

So as some of you know, I'm a bandit. From my Hero days I have about a combined total of about 60k humanity on the public hive. I decided to start playing public servers again, and this is my story.

I spawned on the west side of Elektro and started looting my way to the center of town. On the side of the road about 300m before the fire station I found a body with a Crossbow and 1 bolt. I immediately saw a bandit running west out of Elektro with an M14. I went prone, and fired my only bolt in his direction, and missed.

I then had a random urge to change my play style, and I started to chase the player shouting friendly praises. He took cover behind a house, and decided to believe I was out of crossbow bolts. He told me to follow him away from the zombies. We managed to escape the zombies, and hid in a cluster of bushes North West of Elektro.

He then told me there was a Sniper on the Elektro hospital, and he managed to knick his gear off a body at the bottom. He told me that he was going to move back to Elektro and kill the sniper. I was also going to go back into Elektro in hopes of gathering basic supplies. We moved to the barn north of Elektro were we saw 2 players. One player started advancing towards us, and my new friend shot him. We then started taking fire from a nearby tree. I ran to the body, grabbed an enfield, and shot the rest of it's ammo in the direction of the gunshots. We then realized the player combat logged.

We decided to part our ways from there. He ran towards the barn, I to Elektro. About 100m later, I heard the distinctive Enfield shot, followed by a burst of M14. I immediately got scared for my friend, turned, and ran to the barn. I peeked inside, and saw my friend taking cover behind boxes. I called to him, and he called back saying there was a bandit on the top level, on the opposite side. I then told him to get ready to run out, and I sprinted in, and ran directly towards the bandit. I saw the player stand and turn towards me, and that was followed by 2 M14 shots, and my friend saying "You won't die for me".

After looting the players corpse, we started towards Elektro, and immediately started taking DMR fire from Sniper hill. My friend got shot. He managed to bandage himself with next to no blood, and we high tailed it west over a ridge line. Upon getting to decent cover, my friend passed out from low blood. I gave him all my food, and told him to sit tight while I get him a bloodbag.

I looped around to sniper hill, and cleared it of any snipers. I then high tailed it to the hospital. I found nothing but cans inside, and nothing around the back. I knew my only option was to climb to the top, and possibly face off with a sniper. Upon climbing to the top, there was no sniper, nor bloodbags. I heard a body on the slightly raised platform, and climbed to the top. The body was a fresh spawn. I then looked up and saw a player quietly stalking through the office buildings' doors. I felt so dedicated to heal my new friend, my bandit side took over. I raised my Enfield, and shot him in the head.

I then crept to his body, and learned this player was fully geared (Mk 48, Czech Pack, RFs, NVGs, etc) including 1 bloodbag. I ran back to the location of my friend, calling his name over direct. I finally found him prone beside a tree, surrounded by empty tin cans. I bloodbagged him up, and we moved out together.

Later on, we were unfortunately killed in the North Elektro Powerplant by endless waves of players, undead, and snipers.

I've been playing DayZ for over a year, and have never had this kind of encounter. We also got him into Teamspeak, and I think we made a new friend at Musty Gaming!

This is a screenshot of me and by new friend moving towards Elektro.

Brought tears to my eyes.

The gunshots... I still hear them..

And that look that was in his eyes. When he got shot..he told me he was going to die. I just couldn't let that happen.

Oh fuck, here comes the tears.

So you rammed a blood bag down his throat.

No, I showered him with love and affection before risking my life in order to get a bloodbag.

I then gently slid the IV into his arm, and caressed his cheek as I poured liquid life into his veins.

And this is one of the things that makes DayZ so amazing.  I've made some really good friends in DayZ and met a lot of people.  No other game can compare to it and I think that's one of the big reasons I love DayZ so much.

True, but I feel that for every good person there's about 7 asshats to balance it out. A perfect example is the pair of survivors that started out friendly, then began shooting at me while yelling "YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR HERO SKIN OR DIE!". The objective here being to force me to lose my Hero skin by killing them. That said, I think there are people out there that want to play like a hero, but lack the equipment/determination to get that equipment. This is a nice story though, these are the sort of situations that I think of when I think DayZ.
