Can everyone do me a favour when the SA comes out?

Recommended Posts

Don't make videos and tutorials about it.

I don't mind when people upload gameplay and how to fix errors and things like that, but when people start uploading 'How to find 100 weapons in your first hour of DayZ!!!' then it becomes boring.

I think alot of the current problems with DayZ is people know too much.

No-one bothers to try and learn for themselves, its just 'ohh, i keep dying, never mind ill just go on utube and look how to be l33t banditz'

Before all this attention, it was a bandage and a flashlight, 0 experience, 0 knowledge of what to do, 0 idea of what or how to use a bandage.

(believe me, I dropped about 30 bandages thinking I was healed before I asked my friend and was mocked for my stupidity :/)

If there was no tutorials or any of this 'How to survive your first day in DayZ!' people would actually have to think and learn by themselves, I think that would make the game 1000x better and more interesting.

Tank yew ;)

EDIT: if all of that came out incorrectly, apologies: What I am trying to say is

If you want to have proper, DayZ fun in the SA, please don't make videos about the best loot spots in the game. or the best weapon locations in the game.

If however, you want to use the tutorials and guides, by all means go right ahead. I am (trying) to state that the SA will definitely be more fun if you learn by yourself, and leave the guides alone.

And I retort to you, good sir;

Don't look at them.

Why are you concerned about others? Just don't partake in watching the tutorials and play it your way.

That still ruins the fun. Getting killed by a bunch of bandits with Team Suck that used youtube to find glitches for hiding in walls and bushes is a fucking pain in the ass.

You can't control others, and telling people not to watch tutorials is not going to happen.

So the best he can do is just not watch them and enjoy the game he wants to enjoy it.

You don't think it would help?

Players coming in, dying all the time, getting robbed and murdered like we all did, and then instead of continuing and keeping at it, they choose the easy way out and look up how they can get 50 heli's, 20 antibiotics, 50 DMRs, 30 M4A1s and then never look back.

I would say it ruins the fun and the reason DayZ became so popular. It was difficult. An 'anti-game', then you have people exploiting the game and using glitches then sharing it around so that the game isn't fun.

You seriously can't expect people not to make/watch tutorials. There are no tutorials on how to get "50 helis, 50 DMRs" etc, etc. There are however tutorials on where to find what loot, common loot runs, etc, etc.

If you don't want to watch tutorials then all the power to you. But you seriously can't expect people not to seek help if they want it. That's just a joke.

People will never stop doing this, also these 60 minutes DayZ gameplays with kids crying over teamspeak piss me off, there is nothing to do.

The Wiki-Wonderland that is the internet, eh?

If folks want to "monkey see, monkey do" their way through DayZ, let them.  :P

Tutorial-tactics are going to cut out a part of the game for those who use them. It doesn't affect anyone else.

Instead of being resentful of folks who learn how to play through tutorials/guides, you should pity them, since they're missing out on experiencing things for themselves.

I'm just getting my opinion across.

What I mean is, if you want the standalone to be difficult and unforgiving, don't bother with the tutorials and walkthroughs.

When the SA does come out, everything will be different.

No more loot spawns that people are accustomed(?) to, no more vehicles (until later on), etc etc, but then once people devote their time to finding good loot spots and then telling everyone about it on youtube, then there goes your fun. There's the easy way out.

Making / watching tutorials completely ruins the game. If you keep dying, keep going. Take a different route. Try a different strategy. Team up with friends. But using tutorials to get through loot, weapons and vehicles is not the right way because you are basically having training wheels attached to you.

Maybe I should edit my original post to a better explanation. *sigh* I have a bad habit of doing that -.-

You have to learn for yourself.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from, and I agree with you. What I'm saying is, people are still going to do that, and you need to assure people that this is your personal opinion. Or else someone is going to assume you're telling people to not watch tutorials for the game.

And that usually result in a classic case of internet butthurt.

But what you would say and what someone else would say are different. If they want to choose the easy way, that's their prerogative. You cannot dictate how people play this game and what they find enjoyable. You might find the looting fun (The "early game"), whereas I might find it boring, and prefer the nights hunting in the forests (The "mid game"), and someone else might just want to get straight to NWAF for some gunfight (The "end game"). Some might want full immersion from the game, others might just want to hang around with some friends and shoot zombies. You can't tell them to play a different game, they have just as much right to play and have paid just as much as you have.

When it comes to people knowing all of the latest tricks, as far as you're concerned, SOMEONE has to have known about it for there to to a tutorial in the first place, so it could be the guy you're facing for all you know.

Also, tutorials and guides are far, far different from exploits and glitches.

What really amazes me is the way people don't seem to be able to resist watching these video's. Some people even watch tutorials about a game before ever playing it, just so they don't look like a newbie.

Some of the best game moments are the ones you don't see coming or don't know exist. One of the best things about Fallout 3 was going for a wander around thinking there was nothing about but stumbling across some crazy ass cannibals. And yet there are tutorials showing you EVERYTHING in the game. If you were to watch all that there would be no point playing it.

The fact is you won't stop people making youtube vids because they are making money from it. Even if they weren't, they would probably still make them.

It was just a opinion, obviously thats illegal on the internet....

*******

I honestly think that if you want to spend your time watching youtube videos on where to find all the best gear quickly, then its game over. Its boring, because half of the game is struggling with almost no supplies, sneaking past infected with hardly any food in your virtual stomach, just hoping that you will get to the supermarket, and then savouring that can of beans you find.

Once you know that when you spawn, you immediately run to x, then go to x, then there you have it. Fully geared up. Not very fun.

But if you play without guides and walkthrough's, the game becomes a whole lot harder. You don't know where to go. You won't know what to do. You'll take a random guess and just hope that that house has some supplies in it. This way you could spend a whole day scrounging around the place.

I definitely agree. Slowly learning how to survive was the fun part for me, I think by relying on tutorials and loot maps you're robbing yourself of that.

If things go to plan there won't be any way for people to generate loot maps in the SA.  That'll be nice.  People will have to actually go and scavenge like the rest of us :).

Hello there

I perfectly understand OP's sentiments even if they are not clear to everyone.

What he simply wants is everyone to enjoy the "pure" core game without loads of assistance and  spoilers.

I think he is correct and in my totalitarian universe that is how it would be played.

I think online maps/loot tables spoil the experience.

BUT, I do understand that some folk are not as L337 as us and want to play "their way", so as I dont run this particular dimension you still can and I have no problem with that.

I do however believe you are fools unto yourselves and missing out on a great experience.

Kinda hard to believe when normal people can host servers but great plans are sometimes achievable :)

It'll be like the main hive days. There will be strict rules that you must obey as admin and abusing your position means losing your server.

Well loot spawning will be handled by a separate master server not the individual game servers.

But no doubt someone will figure out a way to intercept the data and analyse it all, but if they ensure that loot spawns constantly change any loot tables released could easily become outdated in no time, making it not worth the effort.

Don't know what they have planned for loot distribution but the new system should really allow them to mix things up forcing players to really explore rather than just stick to the same old elektro, stary, nwaf run.

As much as tutorials might ruin it for some people, it might be helpful for others.  I don't really remember watching tutorials when I began except the basics like what the icons on the left meant, what broken legs and shock were, and how you fixed broken legs.

In SA I don't plan on watching tutorials.  However I understand that there might be those who need to.  Whether it be that they're too impatient to figure things out on their own, or they genuinely need the help of others to figure things out.
