The Ultra Rare in DayZ (game not mod)

Recommended Posts

While I do agree that loot should be rarer in the SA than it is in the mod (Maybe not AS rare as you've suggested, but that's irrelevant).

The problem I have is that this won't really stop KoS at all. You could say it would prevent 10% of the incidents, which is noticeable but hardly marginal, but KoS banditry is usually done because the alternative offers no real benefit, save for the lack of loss in humanity. If you were to approach someone to try and steal whatever gear they had and hold them up at gunpoint, you are taking a lot of risks. For one thing, you're alerting them to your presence which would allow them to either fight back or flee. Also, if the person refuses to comply then the bandits will most likely end up shooting them anyway.

Even if it solved the banditry, a lot of the people who have a limited amount of ammo will often shoot on sight out of complete fear, it's not something you can prevent at all because it's human survival instinct coming into play in the game world. You may only have a few bullets left in your rifle, but if you're nearby someone else that you don't know and is likely armed as well, it's hard to risk yourself fleeing instead of taking them out.

The same thing applies to trading; although it will happen, it's usually more profitable for someone to expend a couple of bullets and be able to take everything that the other person has, which may be more bullets.

Also, the region doesn't have to have a backstory for every 'exotic' weapon, as explained in some other post by a dev, around 50% of the weapons are eastern, so it's safe to assume that even imported weapons like the SG-550 series would not need a 'field testing' log. Maybe if you were to find a high-caliber anti-materiel rifle that obviously no civilian has a chance of getting their hands on and is only used in a military that obviously wasn't deployed to Chernarus, then I could see reason to explain it being there, but honestly it's not a huge deal.

And the apparitions just seem unnecessary, even if interesting.

you make a good point so shut up and take my beans!

How is it grinding? Looting is luck based. You could find super loot five minutes off the coast or five hours off the coast. Grinding would be like leveling up your looting skill so you can find better loot, which isn't what I am talking about.

Probabilities based. Well people loot cycle for a reason in the mod, getting more dice rolls increase the probabilities of getting the item you want.

Have you been living under a rock or not following the news???  It has been well established that loot spawns from the server, not from the client.  In the mod, loot farming works b/c loot spawns whenever someone approaches the building.  In the game, the server spawns all the loot at once.  The central economy server tells the game server what it can spawn. I put that in the post AFAIK, you read it?

Loot farming will be impossible because player presence doesn't spawn loot.  Rocket told us this long ago.

I really like your ideas.  Limited ammo and the scarcity of high end weapons "should" help the KoS mentality - perhaps not initially, as i think a lot of players will take their mod tactics to the Standalone.  Hopefully though they will be in for a bit of a shock as mod tactics shouldn't be as effective in the Standalone.

If you only have a Winchester and 5 slugs would you waste them on a passing survivor who only has an axe?  Maybe you would, but as you say, if you are a bandit why not hold the guy up and rob him instead of peppering him with bullets and potentially bringing dozens of screaming zeds down on your ass?

PvP will always be there and we really need it in game, but hopefully the scarcity of weapons and ammo makes players think before shooting. I've got no problem at getting sniped by someone on Elektro's sniper hill if i stupidly leave myself vulnerable, but i really hope that bullet costs the sniper and also brings him some unwanted attention in the form of 20 zeds making a beeline for him.

I also hope that the feeling of awe you got when you first found a good weapon in the mod returns.  I remember when i first found an AKM - i was so excited and it is still my fav gun even today.

As for your second suggestion - paranormal happenings - i too would enjoy some random visual and audio occurrences, not necessarily supernatural as i don't really think the Devs will go down that path.  Subtle things can add great atmosphere though.  A lantern lit, blood stained, empty cabin in the woods would be unnerving just for being there, especially at night.  A siren going off at Green Mountain, a random person found hanged in the forest....things like that.

Nice work.

I don't think that keeping them alive would be profitable. If you managed to get them to surrender (which will already be hard) you have to get in melee range to loot them. Fake out your axe and you don't waste bullets. If you keep them alive they will want revenge and if they find a gun in the next house you are screwed. Killing sends them back to the coast and gives you a safe distance to them.

But I think true bandits would kill less people for loot - even if the target is standing still and you can take them out with just one bullet, that bullet can be worth more than the loot the victim has - so you just let him live because it's not worth it.

I am quite sure that in the standalone they are going for MORE realism... they will probably make it so they can tell your carrying an ax. course pocket knifes you could hide.

I agree with all of your points.  Maybe paranormal activity is too much, but you suggest a good alternative.  I also love the AKM and was really excited when I found it in a deer stand near Novy Sobor on my first life in game ever!

yeah I agree.  Hiding a three foot long ax in your pocket hopefully won't happen anymore.   :)

I think, that mil stuff need to be rarer than civilian ammo - 12 gauge shotshells and also widespread caliber of handguns to self-defense in Europe - 9x19 mm Para.

What about the mentioning of Sub-Machine guns? Where do they fit into

Some MP40, which can be rare finds somewhere on an attic, a cellar or in a sauna, would be not bad.

ipqpnb.jpg

Especially because they accidentally use a 9x19 Para cartridges ..

And it can good fit for Survivor, who prefer bolt-action rifle as primary gun.
In game this rare gun would be as some surprise element.

This is something that the new loot spawning system can do!

MP40's are rare weapons that you wouldn't find often at all.  But it would be POSSIBLE to find IRL, so it can be in the game, and just be scarce b/c of the central economy.

+1

I support this thread,

Rare spawns should come with backstory :) cool!

Mountain Dew backstory

Note says

"sorry for drinking your Dew dean, here's the one I owed you

- Matt"

Helicopters should have zombie UN soldiers with holstered handguns, dog tags and sometimes diarys giving hints at how the rest of the world is.

I remember I was starving to death once, all I wanted was a single can of food I'd checked super market heaps of small residential buildings and everything, eventually I found a ghillie suit on a doorstep while losing 10 blood per second and died soon after.

First time I found a ghillie suit and all I wanted was a can of beans :(

Once I found two mountain dews in Churno.

I want to say again how much I like your ideas.

I had three mountain dews at once.  There was one in each of the bars in Chernogorsk

That is a good idea!

Maybe you could loot a zombie doctor to gain knowledge on the outbreak.

There could be medical clipboards giving knight on the changes a person goes through, notes about meetings vs for doctors trying to crack the epidemic before their hospital was overrun.

I would also like large military presence around hospitals and camps to show they did try and keep the undead locked down but they got raided they he'll out of, maybe finding notes on zombies about where the rest of his squad is going (keep following the notes untill you find either AI soldiers or zombies that spawn with powerful weapons)

Stuff like this would likely be hard to implement, but very immersive! I like all of it except AI squads.  No human AI  for me!
