KSVK in the mod, good or bad idea?

Did a search, nothing about the KSVK. People are always saying that instead of M107/AS50 there needs to be more eastern weapons.It's always been in the game. It may need some balancing but it's not nearly as op as the AS50. It doesn't use the mil-dot system ,so it is harder to hit targets with, and it only comes in 5 round magazines. I don't know if there is something OP about it, but it makes a lot of sense for this to be in the game instead of AS50/M107. Please comment if you have a reason why this shouldn't be added, cause right now I don't really see anything bad about adding this. I have only ever used this in Wasteland and it seemed a lot harder to use than AS50/M107, requiring actual skill to take down a target with this.

 

Edit: Did a re-search, turns out something was wrong with my first search and people HAVE discussed adding KSVK to the mod, but each topic was simply chatted about and dropped, so I bring forth my topic.

From personal experience through ARMA 2, I don't think I'd mind the KSVK much. It's an anti-tank rifle, not something designed for use against infantry. Then again, a high-grade military weapon like that would seem rather unreal for a zombie apocalypse. In a military-base or not.

Well, no. This here is an anti-tank rifle.

The KSVK is an anti-materiel rifle, just like the AS50 or the M107. If there is any point in having anti-materiel rifles included, I think having the KSVK in would make more sense than having British or American high-caliber weapons in Chernarus.

There's currently an issue with the arma beta patches that causes 50cals to have an auto lock on box appear on targets, until this gets resolved don't expect to see any weapons of this sort in the mod.

I don't think any new sniper rifles should be added to the game unless they are short range hunting rifles or something, in reality, nobody would walk around with a 50.CAL or AS50, it would be too cumbersome

Probably shouldn't be in the mod until that is fixed.

 

King of Kong, the only reason I suggested this is because people disliked the idea of having AS50s and M107s but some didn't want them outright removed, if there ever is going to be 50.CALs in the mod the KSVK would be the way to go in my opinion.

As long as weight is no problem it's no problem at all...hopefully they will test a weight system in the mod and add it into th SA. I let others have the heavy stuff, they said i'm stupid not to take it but i prefer to play like it was RL. I wouldn't carry it around even if i had an empty backpack, needs too much energy.

My opinion on "more guns" is very simple :)

 

  • IF the new gun covers a weapon type that isn't covered, then yes.
  • IF the new gun merely distinguish itself by it's look, then no.
  • IF the new gun barely deviate from an existing weapon, then no.
  • IF the new gun is vastly superior to every other weapon in it's category for no good reason, then no.
  • IF the new gun is one of these "gungasm" weapons with electronic devices that have zero chance to remain functional 5 years down the apocalyps, then no.
  • IF the new gun has no realistic reason to exist in this time and location, then no.

It's a sniper rifle, which is covered in the game, but its a .50 cal which has been removed and I think if they ever re-add a .50 cal the KSVK is the way to go.

The AS50/M107 were vastly superior, but this is a similair weapon which is less OP and makes more sense.

It does not have a zero function.

It does have a realistic reason to exist in this time and location, especially with the current ArmA II backstory.

To say we have them?

 

To me they are just sniper rifles with a very big bullet, they do not fill any role that isn't already covered by something else, unless you want them as antimaterial rifles, but who use them as such in DayZ?

Bottom line: because snipers want to take people out with a single shot at ranges out to 1000 meters or further.

 

 

 

 

 

Anyways we don't need them, I used to support the KSVK and it does make more sense than the Western ones, but... there are many other rifles I'd have before it.

 

Instead of adding anti-materiel to kill people at long ranges, they could add powerful hunting rifles, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 WM, if you're going expensive and European maybe .338 Blaser or something exotic. If it can kill a bull elk at well over 1,000 yards it should have no problem on a human in DayZ. I'd like that for a couple reasons: first these rifles are actually portable and hunting rifles always get short thrift in games, second, people would be forced to loot DEERSTANDS for once... for a while now the only thing you'll find is a CZ, so everyone crowds around military spawns. It would spread people throughout the map more. I kind of doubt that will happen but a Gews can dream.

 

Neither for the KSVK or against it. I wouldn't really mind either way.

If there are, say, 10,000 players active in the dayz community and there are only 10 KSVKs, 50 DMRs, 100 Mk48mods, and so on and so forth, I can't see it being that big of an issue.

At that point you'd be excited to have even seen one of these rare weapons. And the players wielding them would be much more hesitant to camp the coast than they are now.

TLDR: not until loot farming of this and other top tier weapons can be prevented

That's not actually possible in the mod but will be possible in the standalone.

When the SA releases the mod will be irrelevant to survivalists. But I doubt the sacriel type streamers will make the jump

Let's hope the KoSer stay with the mod so the rest will have a more peaceful life in the SA.

I made this suggestion for the mod, not the standalone. I doubt standalone will have any sort of .50 cals, I don't even know if it'll have any sniper rifles at all.

 

.50 cals were widely used as anti-material before they were removed, flying a heli above Cherno was a death sentence in the past.

I think due to its limitations the snipers that like to snipe into Elektro would avoid picking these up, as they are harder to use and actually require some sort of skill. The whole reason I suggested this instead of adding a Lapua(which is basically a bolt-action AS50) or re-adding AS50s and M107s is because they aren't nearly as OP and they make sense to be in this part of the world.

For someone wanting to camp the coast, a DMR is a much better choice by far.

First there wasn't really that much material to shoot at in the first place, second they were used as a one hit weapon thanks to the "blood" in DayZ.

No they are not really the fastest in game or RL and not even the most powerful. Of course it takes no skill if you only have to calculate bullet drop and can make instant elevation changes.

Heheheh if they didn't want KoS in the standalone they wouldn't introduce guns with sights graduated to 2,000 meters. :ph34r:
