Herbal remedies.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, king of kong here, i had an idea for herbal medicine in DayZ: SA i would appreciate feedback, point out flaw's, feel free to add your own ideas.

Horse chestnut: A tall, deciduous tree with gray-brown scaly bark and spreading branches. The large, sticky, brown buds open into large palmate leaves with 5 to 7 leaflets. The flowers are yellowish white and are clustered in dense, erect panicles. The fruit is a green, shiny capsule with one or 2 brown seeds - the well-known horse chestnuts or "conkers".Horse chestnut is native to south eastern europe, the trees generic name Aesculus, comes from the latin word esca (=food). At one time the plant was used to treat malaria. The fully ripe chestnuts, sometimes the bark are used medicinally. In some countries it is included in proprietary medicines used to treat cardiovascular diseases. It is also used for respiratory infections and sever diarrhoea. Externally horse chestnut is used to treat cuts and grazes, frostbite, ringworm and haemorrhoids.

Agrimony: agrimony is widespread throughout europe. The generic Agrimonia may come from the greek agremone a word given to plants that supposedly healed cataracts of the eye.The specific name eupatoria probably refers to Mithradates Eupator, King of pontus who resisted the roman incursions into Asia Minor in the first century BC and who introduced many herbal remedies. Agrimony was used in the old days to treat catarrh, bleeding skin diseases, tuberculosis, even as a charm to ward off snakes. It is still a popular medicinal plant. The flowering stems and leaves are used medicinally. The dried herb has a pleasant, slightly bitter smell and taste and constituents include tannins, silicic acid, bitter compounds, an essential oil and vitamins. It has astringent, carminitive and anti-inflamatory properties. Externally, Agrimony is used as a gargle for sore throat, in compresses for skin rash and cuts.

Healing ointment: An old recipe which includes beeswax, oils of a eucalyptus, camphor, red thyme and pine. a useful embrocation for cuts, bruises, insect bites and abrasions along with many more ailments.

Sorry i would have added more but it took to long, but please tell me what you think and explain some usefull plants you know of and if this gets enough support maybe it'll get added to the SA day zed :beans: :beans:

They should add an alchemy system like The elder scrolls V: Skyrim, you mix random ingrediants and see what you get, or you can find book's which have guides on different things to brew.

The holy grail of survivor books, 0.0001% drop rate from secret treasure chest that some times spawn in the basement of a random house, with info about the animals, plants, trees, herbs and alot of other useful info about cherno

Sounds like far cry 3, (Decent game, bad in-terms of realism compared to far cry 2) i think different guides to different things would be better, like a simple handbook to hunting, and animal habitats in chernarus, maybe guides for botanists and survivalists, which explain recipes for alchemy

oki, i have never played far cry 3. i got the first one as free sample with a graphic card, but the game was so bad that i never bothered to try the rest of them. what if you could find a emty book to write down this kind of stuff and draw pictures in? like a diary

Thats a good idea, leaving diarys around the world to detail your life in the apocalypse, maybe even writing your own survival guides. BTW far cry 2 is made in 2008, i think far cry 1 was made in early 2000's so the graphics probably bad and the game had silly things like invisble mutants, but look up far cry 2, great story, great gameplay, great gun's, good realistic features like having to hold a physical map in your hands while driving, Far cry 3 just ripped out the immersive experiance of Far cry 2 and replaced it with COD style crap.

maybe poisonous ones as well and you can find books either pre apoc or written by survivors with detailed descriptions of plants and whether there safe and what they can treat maybe players can teach other players which plants are safe then when you hover over a plant it will say "this plant is good to eat" or "this plant is poisonous or maybe with a great understanding of the plant "this plant is good for---"

It would be nice if you could make stinging nettle stew.

I've eaten nettles, 'Nice' is not a word i would use to describe them.

More ideas: Meadowsweet, fennel, wild strawberry, thistle, downy hempnettle, aspen.

Interesting ideas.  The crafting system for SA opens up a whole world of possibilities for creating food, etc.  As well as harvesting plants this could lead to creating your own "potions" or stews.

In before someone says "Weed, Ganga, greeen shit etc"

What?! We can argue they have some good effects right?
