What happened to the dayz mod ?

Recommended Posts

Yes the latest greatest ? version.

Every new spawn gets an infection within minutes of playing and there is no way to fix, hospitals not spawning anything... zombies knocking you to the ground, still not enough vehicles much less hi-end loot at AF, starting gear is pathetic, why hasn't wasteland been combined with dayz yet ? I could go on and on and fucking on.

Perhaps its just the vilayer server but I suspect not.

The real issue- About 20 different dayz variant mods have fragmented the player base and the original mod is garbaged it seems, I suspect this is partly intentional to make the SA look all the more better, but those who have been running servers must be pisssed off with this situation as I am.

I cannot be the only one..

For months and months our Dayz server was THE most popular dayz server in the UK, all that has gone.

Nothing more to say except I am disappointed how this has turned out, not only did we enjoy great games with our players but were also happy to provide our players with a great gaming experience.

Over and out.

Hello there

A pretty wild assumption on how *we* split the mod up to make the SA look better...

Its up to the server hosts as to what they run, blame them not *us*.

If your server isnt popular then perhaps it's something you've done?

If you dont like the latest version of the mod, simply roll back or even perhaps edit it yourself?

Lastly why would wasteland be combined with dayz?

I had the 7th most popular DayZ server in the world :P till I quit paying for it and gave up. lol

Nobody wants Wasteland with DayZ, if they did, they'd play... Wasteland... The game has some cool mods because it is a modable game, every game that is modable has many different mods. Who knows why the devs made the infection system different, supposedly the uber high rate is an error. Who cares? SA will be here soon. Don't keep worrying about the state of the mod, we won't have to deal with it much longer.

Plus, go play another mod then. Don't be a negative nancy. I hated the idea of playing anything but standard DayZ until I played maps like Namalsk and Origins. I now play Origins more than regular DayZ, but never forget my roots. Go try them.

Edit: I quit paying for it because nobody else wanted to and I had personal things I wanted to focus on instead of coding and admining every free hour of every free day I got.

The whole point of DayZ was to make survival extremely difficult... not to have a PVP mod with zombies.  Yes the infection system is pretty OP, but I think spawning with 1 set of AB's would probably be all of the balancing that is needed...

It sounds like you should start running Origins or one of the other Mods on your server...  Origins is about as close as you can get to a merger between wasteland and DayZ and it is quite popular at the moment.

Not sure what other issues you're dissatisfied with... it's a survival mod...

Not to knock original DayZ, because I love it... but Origins makes zombies what they should be... scary.

I just enjoy the gameplay, loot is hard, zombies are scary, and there aren't a million vehicles... but you can still actually find them without people hoarding a million of them.

Because a key feature of wasteland is base building, why would you even question this suggestion, something that was meant to be in dayz no ?

Something we have done to reduce popularity ? how do you think we became popular in the first place ?, because we know a thing or two perhaps.

Lastly, I didn't say YOU split the mod up, but was there any attempt to stop it ?, this fragmentation happened because of the other mods, you cannot deny that.

No.  Do you honestly think Razor and the rest of the community devs work their asses of FOR FREE to intentionally make something sub-standard?  I can tell you they don't.

If you're server has fallen from grace perhaps you should look a but closer to home for a reason why.  It could also just be bad luck, gamers are a fickle bunch.  Regarding the playerbase becoming fragmented that is very true and it was inevitable.  It's the nature of modding, someone (Rocket) finds a successful formula and others try to emulate that with thier own take on it.  It's a double edged sword, it's fragmented the playerbase but the new mods have also offered variation to people that would otherwise have left out of boredom.

Mods are free and there's nothing Rocket can do to stop others making variations, it would be stupid to try as it's against the ethics of modding and BIS have supported thier games being modded for over a decade.  If you want me to be brutally honest it sounds like you're a bit bitter about your server not being no.1 anymore and are looking for others to blame.

Regarding base building and other features I suggest you have a look at the Q&A I posted in the information section to see Razors plans for the future of the mod.

I agree only with new spawns getting sick in 5 minutes that is stupid and infection is bad imo.

but this is not to make standalone look better this is a alpha so of course standalone will be better,or at least is should< I mean they cant keep infection how it is.

but wasteland has nothing to do with dayz so I have no idea what you are talking about.

You find dayz vanilla "Hard" and Origins "Scary"?

I don't quite agree on either point.

I think you just need to play the game a bit more. You'l get the hang of it soon and the difficulty scale will be reduced.

He questioned your ORIGINAL idea of Wasteland with dayz because you never specified the base building aspect... derp...LOL. Wastleand at its core, is about PvP. DayZ, at its core (at least intended core), is about survival.

Maybe you became popular because some people saw that there were 10 or so people on, and then people kept on joining till your player base was maxed? We don't know how you became popular... Maybe it was the things you implemented in your server, maybe it was pure luck... who cares?

Lastly, what are the FORUM MODERATORS going to do to stop mods like Origins from popping up? Say: "We don't like the idea of a game that is a mod in itself being modded, we'll have too much variety in the community. Take away the modding or else!". What you are pretty much implying is that it is everyone's fault that we have cool new mods that other people enjoy, and that we should be restricted to one version, which is ignorant. Origins, Breaking Point, and other mods have endless content that could provide new content for SA. I still think it's funny that you are hovering over how your server hit the shitter when it would hit the shitter anyway when SA came out.

Intellectual property ever heard of it ?

You know, there's a reason I hardly ever post here, take care. i'm not bitter because my server is not no1 its because its dead.

vanilla Dayz is just not good enough, we recognised early on that players wanted something more than the standard mod, we cannot offer that anymore but even if we could it wouldn't matter.

Fixed, quotation issues.

It's probably a good thing you never post here then. As you may have noticed, the forum doesn't take kindly to people complaining. And I don't blame anyone on here that snaps at someone bitching. There are literally 20+threads a day complaining about one thing or another.

Servers die. It happens.

Lastly, what are the FORUM MODERATORS going to do

They talk as if they are part of it, I reply appropriately, and thanks for reminding me to stop wasting my breath.

I gave you my honest opinion and thought's on the topic that you bought up, you can't ask for more than that from anyone TBH.

You asked why nothing is done to stop other mods treading on DayZ's toes, I told you why that is.  You said you weren't happy with the mod in general right now, I linked you to an Q&A with Razor where he explains the plans for the future.

As for your server dying I can't help you with that.  There's many popular servers out there right now so for whatever reason, something went wrong for you or you just had bad luck.  If you want an example go and look at the history of Laughingmans servers.  They were number one in the world for a long time and now they're nowhere to be seen, he lost his momentum due to some complaints and it was game over, people moved on.  I've admined popular servers too so I know how quickly things can change, some of it is within your control some of it isn't, that's life.

Blaming the mod itself won't help you when the fact is it's still popular.

Well I mean, I was paying 30 bucks a month for something I never got to play because I was either busy making sure my add-ons worked, adding new add-ons, checking for hackers, or CONSTANTLY in the teamspeak Server Support channel helping people. Even when I did get to play I was dealing with people constantly trying to accuse people of abuse, and I pretty much couldn't even go near a town without people screaming that I was abusing myself. It became something that was fun and awesome to provide for people, into a living nightmare that started affecting my personal life.

I have recently had a "Rage", Due to the Stupendous amount of stamina, Velocity, and sheer power of zombies.

They used to be like little toy cars, ZEY ARE NOW A PANZER TANK!.

Really though, I find the zombies too overpowered.

Same, although I wasn't funding any of the servers I admined in the past.  It's just not for me, it's all consuming and I ended up hating the game for a while.  I have so much respect for people that do it for long periods and do it well.

I only did it for 2 months after I took over ownership, I was admin for a long time before that. It is a difficult thing, but everything passes with time. I'm surprised it stayed as popular as it did for as long as it did.

It's a crappy yet great job at the same time, hard to explain but I remember hating the hacking that used to go on but looking back those were the best times, so many players come and gone, so many great games, even if dayz dissapeared tomorrow it will never be forgotten by many. Agreed, I did enjoy it for a bit, there's definately a buzz you get from it but I just couldn't keep it up.  I have loads of friends that still admin some pretty big servers and I honestly don't know how they do it, some of them have been doing it for over a year and still enjoy it every day.  I like the community side of it and building that up, I don't like dealing with whinging over TS all day about the silliest things.  At the time my job (IRL) was dealing with customers all day so getting home and dealing with more peeps was a tad too much.

Anyhoo, I hope you stick with it or give it another go, maybe the SA will give you a fresh start although there's a lot of un-answered questions ATM about what private server owners will be  be to do, it sounds like they'll have very limited control over the server which is great IMO because it'll provide a much more uniform experience and bring the community back together.  I know some admins hate the idea of it though.

Loot in Origins is plenty, farming is easy, only thing that makes zombies any scarier is the glowing eyes in the dark which eventually you learn to ignore, and yes there are a million vehicles, I can't go in a town without seeing some sort of vehicle in it.
