1 month in Dayz

Recommended Posts

So i have been playing for a month or so.

And i really just have been sticking with vanilla Dayz servers and a few private hives.

Am i missing out on a whole other experience with Origins and some of the other dayz mods?

Should i just stick with OG mod till SA comes out?

I just downloaded Origins via Dayz Commander, and have not been able to find a server yet to let me on.

Is the troubleshooting worth it?

thanks for the input!

My experience of origins is lag, fps issues, empty repetitive landscape and glitches.

missing out on aftermath although its not released yet. My experience of the mods i have played are as follows

- Origins = money grabbing knob jocks but pretty good game minus the lag issues

- Breaking Point = Was great when first released now broken beyond belief sand unplayable

- DayZero = Great mod most professional i have played however not that different from vanilla

- Epoch = Good fun not really DayZ though

- DayZ 2017 = Hardcore

I have tried a lot of the other mods, these are the ones worth mentioning (because of being really good, bad or different from Vanilla):

Namalsk: Really PvP heavy, though quite fun for some hours. Also great landscape

2017: Harcore Dayz. Less loot, lower quality loot, new cars, gyrocopters! I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately not many people play it

Origins (Only gameplay, not going to comment on the other shit that's happening): The Sims of Dayz if you want. While it doesn't provide nearly as much of a challenge as Vanilla does, it can be really fun building a base with your friends, then grabbing a helicopter to loot sector b or start a nice little clanwar with other people. Also amazing skins. However, it's REALLY easy to get everything you need, and it will be boring rather quickly.

Fallujh: Awesome huge city. Sadly, only one place worth going which is the airfield where you will get killed immediately. Also no good spaces to build a hidden camp. You can be lucky if it stays undiscovered for two days.

Takistan: PvP. That's all.

Utes: PvP (island way too small for anything else)

I played DayZ vanilla on Chernaraus for the longest time, a few months if IIRC. Then I played vanilla DayZ on Lingor when it first came out for a month or two. Both are good and offer different experiences while still keeping DayZ vanilla.

I played for about 2 weeks now.

The best in my opinyon is normal dayz vanilla  . 2nd best so far is taviana

Today I am try epoch for the first time and I hope is easy to found guns and ammo.

Tomorrow I want to play origins but I read lots of people saying things like they taking player money and the boss of origins is a fat basturd but I am run out of NoPvP servers in 4 days :o so I must try origin for this reason.

But I promis for sure 100% I giving zero moneys to the fat man :P

Namalsk: Really PvP heavy

Takistan: PvP. That's all.

Utes: PvP (island way too small for anything else)

after I am kick and ban from every carebear servers I try the ones they sound like elektro x 1000 :D

I've played most of the maps out there. I think my view point is a little skewed because i've been playing this game for a while, if you're new you might see some of this differently.

Vanilla - still a great map but I've explored pretty much every inch of it and I can get fully geared really quickly so it's kind of boring for me at this point. Basically there's nothing left to do.

DayZero - basically the same as vanilla but it has adjusted loot tabels... not really interesting if you ask me, you might as well be playing vanlilla

Dayz 2017 - it's basically vanilla but with little to no military spawns and less food... still not really that challenging imo the only thing that's really changed is that shootouts will usually involve lee enfeilds instead of AKs

Dayz Mercenary - The main change is that there's NPC hit squads that will likely kill you pretty quickly if you run into them.... it's certainly interesting but once you learn to avoid the NPCs it's just vanilla again

Dayz Epoch - they've added this weird trading system where you can buy cars and planes.... it's an interesting idea but ultimately not that much fun because by the time you earn enough cred to buy one you could have just found one and fixed it up

Lingor - there's so much miliarty stuff it's not really worth creating a camp and a lot of the buildings are buggy, cool island theme though

Panthera - kind of a middle ground between Lingor's tropical theme and charnerus(sp?) with a huge mountain range seperating them. The problem is nobody plays this map so there's not really any point in playing by yourself

Utes - really small map with a good amount of military spawns so there's potential for a lot of pvp... but if that's your goal then while complicate it with zombies?

Namalask - this map is certainly interesting there's only 2 supermarkets but a lot of miliary and industrial spawns so food is actually harder to come by than guns and ammo. Also unlike a lot of other maps the cold is actually a factor here. You'd think this would lead to a lot of interesting game play but it usually boils down to somebody camping a choke point with a sniper rifle. If you can get past that however I've found that is the most difficult map to actually "survive" on it's still not really that hard though so you will likely find yourself getting board and heading to a choke point looking for players.

Fellujah(sp?) - like somebody else said the only place worth going is the airport and once you get there there's like 50 military barracks lined up so you can walk out with whatever gun you want almost... it kind of takes the challenge away even more boring than vanilla imo

Takistan - this map is also quite boring... You go into a town get some low level loot run over the next hill... oh look another low level town... repeat for about 3 more hills then eventually you find some military loot. I've never actually seen another player on this map which makes me think I'm not going to the right places (which I kind of doubt because I've able to get myself gearred up pretty easily). I think it suffers from not having a real central area to funnel players to create interactions. If too big and there's no choke points and no really "must visit" places that I'm aware of.

Tavania - I actually like this map a lot it's got a good mix of urban and country areas but I don't play it anymore because well... origins.

Origins - This is pretty much all I play at this point because there's actually some stuff to do once you get gearred up. I really like how you can choose your starting location, it makes it much easier to meet up with friends. Trips to salvation city or the secret lab are pretty interesting and there's enough choke points and grouping of high value spawn to create pvp action despite the relatively large size of the map. Also the building construction system actually gives you a long term goal so that there's actually something to do once you get fully gearred up.

I have been playing DayZ Breaking point. Pretty much same as vanilla dayz but so much better sound effects. Better zombies and zombie dogs and blood suckers. Plus new weapons which are really good.
